And then to really bake your noodle, look at those results. Because you are getting your constant from these (to find the 'volume'). What happens as n approaches infinity? Yeah....volume goes to zero. That scares the Hell out of me...

  3. Re:church income tax? on Internet Deconstructing State Church in Finland · · Score: 4, Interesting

As a rule, people born in Lutheran or Orthodox (even in name only) families get their kids baptised and thus to the church's books.>

I am a Lutheran Seminarian (US). While this has been the case in the past and some nominally Lutheran communities still do this, there is a sense in which those training to be pastors (ie, seminarians) are taught to not baptize a child if the parents specifically declare that they do not intend to bring their children to church. While this is a bit different in the US than Finland, there is a very distinct difference in how this subject has been treated over the course of Lutheran history (which is really interesting for the first 100 or so years, and then boring as hell from then on). It is also interesting to note that the practise of not baptizing a child under those circumstances is an indirect result of the separation of church and state. There are too few of us (we are boring and culturally irelevant) to bring in people that aren't serious about being a part of our community. And yes, i realize that that is an extremely simplified way of saying that...but that doesn't mean its wrong.

i used to have the opinion that macs are superior in every way but price. and now that i am using my ibook, i realize that that is also wrong. they save you money in the long run because they actually hold their value. upgrading isnt constantly necessary (especially cause i dont game anymore). I have all the programs i could ever need, and then some. the hardware will last me a long time. although those new macbooks are damn sexy. i need to start dropping more hints with my wife...

This is prolly just going to get modded to an oblivion, but i recently found my wife's older g3 ibook. i added some ram, got a new battery (4 hours of life!!!), and put panther on it, and even the g3 run better than my athlon xp 3000 with windows (now it just has bsd).

I am so impressed with the way os x works. it is fast, accessible (through the bsd subsystem) and i can do anything on my ibook than i can on my desktop (no i dont game). After my experiences running a mac, i will never buy another non-mac pc. even if that means that i have to wait to save more money, they last longer and run better than windows machines.

I beg to differ you little shit. I have leukemia, and 20 years ago the doctor would have told me "make youself comfortable, you have X years/months to live". 10 years ago they would ahve hit me up with a powerful chemo and then done a bone marrow transplant, a risky procedure at best. My odd of surviving that would not have been optimal though it would be possible. Now, with the release of a drug called gleevec, my prognosis is good. Once I adapt to the side effect (which are tough, but not as bad as traditional chemo), this pill could actually put me into remission. So you are absolutely dead wrong. Money for cancer research it working, and it is saving my life (even though I am now only 22).

There is already something like that. I have leukemia (Chronic myeloid). The chemo drug (gleevec) that I am on is an enzyme that specifically bonds to the protein associated with the cancerous cell. It not only is supposed to inhibit growth, but it also actively destroys the cancer cells (and only the cancer cells). pretty impressive stuff, but for 3000 USD a bottle, it had better be pretty damn good.
