I've recycled a few from work myself. Some were literally getting thrown out so I gathered up what I could, picked through and kept some good parts, sold what could be sold, and gave the rest to a guy who will build them up so they get sent down to latin america to be used. Too bad the really old stuff doesnt get thrown out more often, otherwise I'd keep it all.
Two things: Once I saw someone dump a container that held only aluminium cans straight into the regular garbage...
Also, I belive it was Durham, NC that was just throwing the recyclable items right in the landfill with everything else. I'm pretty certain this happens more than people would believe.
Grrrr, didnt see any details on the Apple. I hope it comes to fruition. I wonder what specs they will design it for? It would be cool to have it run on a stock 48k Apple ][+, but to have it work with dual disk ][s, an enhanced 80 column card, lowercase (mousetext?) and 64-128k would presumably make it better.
RE: PS/2s...
I have a number of PS/2 models, both ISA and MCA types and I say they are bulletproof. I expect them to run longer than anything built these days. Once you know how to configure these units, it's almost too easy, being PnP in the truest sense. The only reliability issue I remembered was out of focus displays on the 8513 displays.
I really doubt someone wanting to do trouble would use a model rocket of all things. If you go with the typical stock you get from a hobby shop, you are limited to 16 ounces of payload (IIRC) and maybe 3000 feet or so.
Expecting the SHT to have cities designed for it is the stooopidest thing I've ever heard. People are lazy! People can walk, ride a bike, a moped, a motor scooter, motorcycle or take the bus even but instead choose to use cars even to drive 1 mile to the store even though these alternatives are all cheaper than a SHT. It's just too expensive and even so, I doubt they would sell anywhere that doesnt have mostly warm weather for the entire year. For $5k I could buy a motorcycle that would have about as much storage area, but would have much greater range and speed. I don't see a market for them.
Looks like I have one too. Thankfully, I saved my original box. Wish they'd give me a different model since this one isnt supported under OS/2 with that funky serial cable it uses.
Most hard drives I get from old computer still have intact data with Quicken files, resumes, and business correspondence on them. Most of it is boring and gets deleted.
Macintosh hard drives from the older systems are my favourite though as they have lots of games and neat programs on them and it's easy to copy over to other drives for backup. The last mac drive I got from a junk machine had photoshop, a neat SCSI drive utility, after dark, and SPECTRE, one of the great mac games.

Actually, we use the B-52G. The ones built in the 1960s for the SAC are not in service because of their age and total airframe time.
