I don't get why people like the Windows Explorer interface so much. I hate having folders on the left side. All it does for me is take up screen space. I don't understand the Norton Commander craze either.
I'm pretty confident I could run 100 Mbit ethernet over four rusty barbed wires. I've been itching to try it for some time. Now to find a rusty barbed wire fence...
Sure. No Idol. But plenty of hollowness. The music business has been all about money since it started. They'd sell piano rolls of anglified "jazz" in the earlt 1900s. Fake, but pleased the crowds. I have heard a story about Elvis buying all his songs from a slave for mere cents. The Nashville sound was created and catered for everyone who didn't like rock & roll. Artists have been picking songs out of directories for decades. The record companies buy song ideas from anonymous songwriters. The artist gets offered a list and gets to listen to demos, and then picks a song. A producer then takes care of the backing track and polishes everything. Music has been -manufactured- this way since the middle of the last century. The old days -weren't- better.
I don't have a single Norwegian on my AIM and Yahoo lists. I have one Norwegian on ICQ (who happens to have an MSN account too). Countless on MSN. The situation is probably pretty similar in the rest of Scandinavia too. Only people who wanna keep in touch with foreigners have other clients than MSN.
I've heard the words-on-a-beat variant described as being in a subgenre of Hip-Hip called Abstract Hip-Hop. I'm very aware of what people think about Hip-Hop and that far from everyone shares my opinion. I included Hip-Hop in the list of things that have changed music in recent times in my first post, if you forgot. Sure it's revolutionary and innovative; I've never said anything to contest that.
I don't see your point about fests, and I'm talking about themes, not nessecarily the reality of things, here.
I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure Rock'n'Roll was a cultural wave. I've had this discussion with my parents. They say that none of today's artists come close to being as legendary as Elvis. I can't think of any myself. I'd love to be proven wrong.
In summary, you're attacking the wrong thing. I'm perfectly aware of how opinionated my comments are. I know that my opinions aren't shared by too many people. I was not speaking on the behalf of anybody and I feel I'm allowed to wish for a musical revolution of my liking.
Well, I was going to point out that maybe rock'n'roll music didn't seem as revolutionary at the time as one would think, but I forgot to. I mentioned rap already. Seems to be called hip-hop in writing these days. Hip-hop is similar to rock'n'roll in that they both have a lot of sex and drugs in them.;-) They're also both the result of afro-american underground movements. My issue with hip-hop is that it has never been able to produce goosebumps on my back. I grew up in the mid-80s and early-90s and I want to see things with melody and chords to become popular again. I'm almost tempted to say that the parent generation had it right, with their easy-to-like music. I'm hoping people will sicken of hip-hop soon...
I'm waiting for the next musical revolution. Sure we had the birth of Hip-hop, a wave of electronica and some Grunge, but these are mere variations upon Rock'n'roll. I'm hoping the underground scene will spawn something soon that will throw the rest of the music industry off. I want to hear something mind blowing yet beautiful. Something that would make all musicians envious that they didn't think of it themselves. I'm starving musically but I can't find food. It's like a musical Dark Age for me.
I think you're missing my point. I never took statistics class but isn't it obvious that rounding a number reduces its precision and thus potentially reduces its accuracy?
So you'd rather have the error increased? For instance, let the actual number be 65%. Following your logic, let's round that to 66%. Which one is closer to the truth?
I have a pair of pretty cheap speakers, about $304 a pair, Paradigm Titan. Apart from the exaggerated bass response (possibly floor reflections, compensated with a PEQ notch). Should I consider these to be poor speakers? They get very good reviews and are said to be very good for their price class. They're not big but they don't lack muscle either and are actually excellent for watching movies. I also use them when I produce music and people tell me I'm good at tweaking sound on recordings. They mask stuff, though. I find it easier to pick up MP3 encoding artifacts and other faults if I use my headphones. Are there speakers that reveal as much as headphones when it comes to this? I'd love to have that.
I don't know if the grandparent is Scandinavian and was trying to point out what I am about to: There are two spellings for the name. Tor and Thor. I have a friend named Tor, my own name is Thor and we both pronounce our first names in the same way (IPA).
Was there a Windows port before the takeover? In that case, I'm talking about a version I installed on a former boss' computer a few years ago, not the current Microsoft version. Also read this post.
1. How I usually research before I speak and usually confirm what I already knew, but get it wrong the one time I don't bother to Google what I'm talking about.
2. How Slashdotters have mysterious ability to connect the lack of a small snippet of knowledge with stupidity.
I'm a coder, not some random loudmouthed newbie who talks out of his ass all the time. I made the assumption that the whole idea of Virtual PC was that it's a PC simulator for Macs. I made this assumption because I installed this product for a former boss of mine and seemed in that workplace to be mostly known for it's PC-on-Mac ability.
I think any person who can't be polite needs to check his own intelligence before opening his mouth. You know nothing about me as a person. I dare to claim that I'm no jerk. I'm also fairly sure you'd actually like me if we ever met, and you'd probably at least respect me for my abilities. But no... On the Internet... What's wrong with people?
In conclusion, I'm not the target of your little pet peeve.
If this gets modded down then I will most definitely lose all faith in the Slashdot moderation system. I have spoken honestly and openly like this before, and gotten modded down, and I think it's damn unfair. Give me a break, moderators.
Yes, I know his name. That came up with the Google query and I already went to his website and wrote him an e-mail, since it appears that both him and I are Norwegian. Thanks for the link.
Sony doesn't have a share in mobile phones? Do a little Google search for Sony Ericsson...

Oh man! First laugh of the day, and a good one at that.

I think this answers your question...

Okay, so I haven't been following what Microsoft has been doing to Virtual PC. I don't recall that there used to be a Windows version.

See this existing post for my reply.
A few things never cease to amaze me...

Windows Vista runs on PCs. Virtual PC doesn't run on a PC. It's for Macs.
In danger of being ridiculed... Why don't you consider Wikipedia a reliable source? I know many people who use it for homework. With success.
I miss those days. Discovery channel still has educational shows (I think...) but they stuff them away, never in prime time.
Augh! Don't mention Sputnik!

Ooh, found it!
Guitar Slinger? I think that one was pretty cool. I think some Danish guy made it.
