    In late '92/early '93, I wrote a driver for the Intel 82593 controller chip. This chip used DMA (ISA DMA, 2 channels - one for Tx and one for Rx).

    I still have the databook lying around somewhere; the chip has to be older than that.

    Honestly, yeah. If you went to a pricey private school, then couldn't get a job, you overspent. Maybe you'll make your kids go to a public school, and then the expensive private schools will lower their rates or go out of business.

    I was pointing out that public universities are not necessarilyt a bargain either.

    Yes, but the Amiga did this on an 8MHz 68K with 1MB of RAM. Can you imagine an Amiga with today's hardware specs?

    I once was working with a headhunter (after being laid off). When I sat down with them and went over what I was looking for, I flat out told them NO DATABASE -- I didn't know any DB at the time.

    So they send me out on this interview. And I get to the place and guess what? When they explain what the position is for, it's a DB position. So the very first thing I do is thank them, and tell them that I'm a bad fit, and apologize for wasting their time.

    The very next thing I did (after I got home -- pre Cell phone) was to call the headhunter agency, and tell them they were fired.
