For someone that just plays solitaire, surfs, uses webmail, and types the odd letter for printing you can skin KDE to look like Windows, Firefox to look like IE, and OO.o already looks so much like Word that no one can tell the difference. And still they aren't happy because it's not Windows.
My personal feeling is that they are convinced that using a computer is supposed to be painful. They seem to miss the viruses and spyware,
I have good karma, but I have to enter the code. Just because I don't spend all day karma whoring? They need to get a fucking clue. It's not even easy to read the code.
But I'm not going to pay you for a connection that's crippled because you can't be bothered to really fix the problem. My home network is secure, I don't see why I have to put up with restrictions due to the antics of your brain dead Windows-using customers.
Agreed. Most Americans seem to feel resentful about Europeans because we don't let employers walk all over us. If a US corporation wants to have a branch in Europe, they have to deal with European work views. They don't get to import the US view of work your emplyees like slaves then fire them when they complain. IBM can either accept this or piss off back where they came from.
For stating the obvious about my own country? Come on here, if it wasn't for the fact that we can always rely on France and Germany to do worse, we would have been last.;)
When it become quite clear that Netscape was worthless to AOL, they made it open source. The open source community looked at the code and rewrote it from the ground up. So, Mozilla is loosely descended from Netscape. They may be partially funded by AOL, but they are not owned by AOL.
Bittorrent has proved resistant to *AA attacks due to having lots of legitimate uses. So, this is a deliberate attack by the industry morons using the publicity of star wars. I would love to see the executives of the RIAA and MPAA assassinated before they damage the progress of technology.
Waaaah, we're going to have start paying IT people more because we can't get graduates anymore!
They created the damn situation. Prospective students saw what generally happened to graduates and, like anyone with half a brain would, decided to do something where they wouldn't be underpaid and overworked.
It will take a couple of years before they get a clue. They will try outsourcing first. It will take a number of expensive lessons where they have to deal with crap Indian software.
The bottom line is, the free lunch is over for employers. Start behaving decently or go out of business. Nobody is going to see the pathetic hand wringing and decide upon personal sacrifice so that a bunch of greedy executives can get paid another couple of million a year.
I always get confused when people say their typing is slowing down their programming. I spend about 95% of my programming time thinking. Typing is just the final part of the job.
IE breaks the web standards. Sites that aren't designed carefully do not work on anything but IE. If you can't use your favourite website, you can't switch away from Windows.

No.
Because fanboys would mod the submitters of stories critical of [insert company name here] down every time.
"The concern Stallman had was that OOo wouldn't be compatable with (real and hypothetical) Free Java implementations, a legitimate concern given the difficulty of restricting one's self to an "official" API."
Official API... in other words, a standard. Until the open source community can put as much time and effort into Java as Sun can, I suggest their standard is the one to stick to.
Everyone here is talking about schools and children. It's unusual to have even a university, anywhere, that does anything but Windows. Microsoft aren't only getting the word-processing masses locked into Windows they are locking in future software developers too.
The wankers controlling education made getting going in my first job infinitely harder. In my opinion they made a piss poor job of educating me, and charged me a fortune for the priviledge.
Their branch has advanced faster because they've added code that the KHTML team considers substandard. It will bite them in the ass in the end because more and more they won't be able to use new code in KHTML.
And before some fanboy mods me down, let me state that I don't actually care about either Konqueror or Safari. Give me Firefox any day.
Personally I don't care if MS is around or not. What I do care about is the number of criminally insecure computers connected to the internet. If they take five years and build a better OS from the ground up that will prevent the average users computer from being a danger to everyone to everyone else, that's a good thing.
My personal feeling is that they are convinced that using a computer is supposed to be painful. They seem to miss the viruses and spyware,
They are probably readying the attack lawyers as we speak.

I'll just stand in the corner quietly then.
For stating the obvious about my own country? Come on here, if it wasn't for the fact that we can always rely on France and Germany to do worse, we would have been last. ;)
Did they even bother to look at the result of the voting?

The problem for them is, very few industries are still located in America.
Bittorrent has proved resistant to *AA attacks due to having lots of legitimate uses. So, this is a deliberate attack by the industry morons using the publicity of star wars. I would love to see the executives of the RIAA and MPAA assassinated before they damage the progress of technology.
Now I'll have to start IP blocking German ISPs as well as the damned Koreans on my server.

Apple would be just as bad if they were in Microsoft's position.
They are certainly doing their best to sink their positive public image. Do they have lawyers camped in the courts 24/7?
The RIAA like to sue people that can't fight back. The BBC can most definitely fight back.

Yes, but it makes the almighty Apple look less than perfect! Won't someone please think of the children??

No. GPS draws too much power on it's own, plus you need a way for the device to call home.
