99.9% of my 20gig collections comes from ripping CD's that I (or my friends) already own. When spread out over 15 years and multiple people, the idea of collecting 1000 songs is not as painfull on the pocket book.

Never mind that if people didn't like the music they wouldn't be pirating it, most Slashbots--again, this goes back to the niche opinion thing--don't realize that most people these days love the music coming out and want to hear all of it. Probing around, you discover that Slashdot is made up of nerds and fogies who listen to things like The Who and Blind Guardian and techno--not what mainstream society enjoys.
I think most people understand that the plummeting recording industry profit has less to do with the quality of the music and more to do with economic realities.

I thought I would emphasize what seems plainly obvious to me because appearently people don't understand the idea of a free market. If you don't like the practices of a certain company you don't have to use it. A right that most of the people here on/. excersize everyday.
This Wired Article talks about how one company is already using P2P networks for marketing. The article talks about the battle between the RIAA and the Radio Conglomerates. Appearently the RIAA has a hard time getting radio stations to play new/different music. The radio (shocker i know) is at a point where they would rather play the same tired songs instead of risk loosing listeners with un-proven works.
The company in the article, BigChampagne, monitors P2P networks and (secretly) sells the information to the Recording Labels. The record execs then turn around and use the statistics (which are locatlity based) to pressure the radio stations to play tracks more.
"This song that only played 5 times last week had 3,000 downloads in the same area. While this song that was played 100 times only had 500 downloads".... you get the idea

I just checked out "Shift + F1" on my co-worker's Word 2003 install for the first time. It is nothing compared to WP's Reveal Codes. Sure it's got a nice pretty interface, but it does nothing to help you untangle the mess that these GUI driven Markup Language editors (Word, WP, Dreamweaver) create.

Yeah according to this site (linked from yahoo) on browser statistics IE 5 only makes up 11% of the market.
That is why traffic lights are not actually pure red or pure green. They are a little off so that red/green color blind people can tell them appart.

We saw the modern media version of this game recently when rumors emerged that President Bush was about to unveil a new space policy that called for a return to the Moon and an eventual human mission to Mars. Media reports quickly declared that this plan would cost a trillion dollars or even more. That number was widely repeated within the modern media echo chamber, often by supposedly reputable sources. It may have already done substantial damage to the Bush space policy, creating public opposition to what is perceived as a massively expensive program and scaring away any possible supporters. Also Geo-syncronous satalites have to placed very high in orbit around the earth to stay in one spot with using a lot fuel. This causes a significant delay in transmission time to/from the satalites. The blimp would eliminate that.

I just checked out "Shift + F1" on my co-worker's Word 2003 install for the first time. It is nothing compared to WP's Reveal Codes. Sure it's got a nice pretty interface, but it does nothing to help you untangle the mess that these GUI driven Markup Language editors (Word, WP, Dreamweaver) create.
