But I can see where you're coming from. It's just that the Amiga is kinda hanging on by it's nails. Most everyone that was with the Amiga have moved on to something else. But obviously not all have.
You're right, who am I do dictate anything. It's just that it's sad to see it truely going through it's death throws like this. I can't really see anyone using the OS or the hardware except out of nostagia, which is fine I suppose. But does it really offer anything other than nostagia? What made the Amiga great was the special hardware tied to the special OS. The hardware also kept it back as the special chips (i.e. Agnes etc etc) were part of the magic.
Of course, I didn't mean this as flame-bait at all. I never do.
Let...it...die...peacefully...

I was an Amiga zealot back in the day. I owned two Amiga's. I absolutely loved them. They introduced me to 3D graphics/animation and photo retouching.
But their day is gone. The Amiga was great in it's day because it did some things no other computer could do at the time, but not anymore. Some people, a VERY small number of people, are trying in vain to hang on to this platform. You just have to know when to let go. You have to know to say goodbye.
Let the Amiga go...let it fade into computer history. It's time to pull the plug and take off the feeding tube. Yes, it's sad to see it go, but all good things must end.
With Steve Jobs head honcho at both companies, you would have thought this would have happened a long time ago. Of course, the G5's entering the picture helps quite a bit I'm sure.
Will the rendering farm also be switching to the G5 in the future, ala Virginia Tech?
Will we now see Photorealistic Renderman come out for OSX and the G5? Hopefully?
I love coffee, and espresso is awesome! I drink like 12 big cups of espresso everyday and it's super super super super superrrrrrr....um...what was I saying? WHO CARES! Another sip!
I'm typing this on my treadmill right now while playing my guitar and espresso and coffee and espresso makes this happennnnning for meeeeee.
It givesss me so mucch time to work on thingz tooo since I don't have to worrry about sleeep anymore. I haven't slept since 1983 and looke at me! Alert! Perceptive! Razor sharp!
Have to go, working on my cure for cancer and have a roast in the oven while painting a self-portrait!
The "article" you're quoting is a Pat Richard fan site it looks like. Of COURSE they're going to be biased. I didn't say they were lying or wrong..just biased.
Is it factual, who knows. But you seem willing to believe him and not the police...because they're the police? Who's right? Do you personally know Pat Richard? Do you personally know the Sheriff involved? Then how are we to judge who is right and wrong given two conflicting views?
This matter will play out in court. Since you have faith in people, then you should have faith in the court system since it's run by people.
Come on, 300,000 bucks to run a web site? And he did it out of the kindness of his heart? 300,000 of his own money to "promote his business".
RTFA again:
A year or so ago, Richard started talking with Hackel's staff about earning income from the site. An attempt was made to secure advertisements for the site with profits going to Richard, but Hackel said that generated only a small response.
Richard then demanded $300,000 of taxpayer dollars from the county. Richard said the money would offset the huge expense of running the Web site for the 33 months.
300,000 for running a site for 2 and a half years? Even if you have your own server, with a T1 line it wouldn't add up to that. The guy lied and tried to cheat the dept out of cash. He got what he deserved.
It's different, by itself. Counter-strike, Day of Defeat are not realistic at all in my opinion. Rainbow Six is a stand alone game, I was talking about mods for unreal/quake.
They used to have jump damage, but they took it out for the moment. I believe they're going to put it back in, along with getting shot in the hand/arm will make it harder to aim, shot in the leg you cannot run anymore etc.
RO has respawns that are configurable to 5 seconds to 30 seconds or so and after a time you run out of reinforcements.
So from reading your post, I can tell you've not played RO before as the things you mention are in the game now.
Actually, RO limits the number of sniper rifles on the map to usually only one per side. You don't have a whole team with sniper rifles.
There are no rocket launchers either. And there are ammo limitations, as I've run out of ammo tons of times, but you can pick up dropped ammo from the dead.
But as others have said here, there are other realistic mods out there, but I've yet to see one better than RO. But that's just my opinion.
ScottGant is one of the developers of Red Orchestra. This is spam, mod it appropriately.
I'm one of the developers? This is news to me!
If I am, please write to them and tell them I want a piece of the million dollar "Make Something Unreal" contest that Epic has going for mod designers.
I can't wait now for Red Orchestra 2.0 using UT2004. Hopefully this will generate more intrest in this awesome mod.
But when I play it now, there's usually only one server with people playing on it. It's ashame because this is such a great game that tries to be more realistic. Like no floaty crosshairs, get shot with a bullet and you die...not 50 bullets while you jump around like a chicken.
It still needs work, but the guys making it are listening to the people playing it. And with ut2004 and all kinds of tanks sitting around, can't wait to see what they do with the new engine.
I work inside SCO. Mike Anderer hasn't had anything to do with the company since June 2003.
You may be right, he might not have anything to do with SCO since June 2003...but since he's a consultant that brought MS into the SCO deal, which was BEFORE June 2003...he really doesn't have to have anything to do with SCO...this memo is mainly about his fees he would garner from the deal.
Well, I remember back in 1993ish spending close to thousands of dollars a piece for 128 megs of RAM for our Mac IIci's and Quadras. The RAM cost more than the machines by far.
Han shot first...if it was self defense, so be it. But he DID shoot first.
"Yeah, I bet you have" ZAP. One zap, one shot...greedo didn't get a round off at all.
Trust me, Han shot first. I don't care about the book or whatever...in the movie Star Wars (before the episode IV was added) Han shot first. Theres not even a question about it. It's not imperceptible nor unclear. Han shot first.
Personally, I don't really care. I'm not buying the special editions and really don't care that Lucas messed around with them...I mean, they're his movies. But I just hate revisionists saying "it was really like this before, Lucas just cleared it up". He changed it, he wussed it up and that's that. Deal with it.
They will work just fine until the mp3 format license requires the DRM add-ons and players start refusing to play music encoded without the DRM support.
Or, just use a player that refuses to bend to the will of these idiots. I doubt that xmms will play this game of theirs, or at least give people the option of disabling it in the source.
But what am I saying, this is Slashdot...if it's not Ogg...IT'S CRAP!
But I honestly feel that your modivation in the world shouldn't only be about money. I don't say this behind a life of privilage or wealth. I don't have a high paying job. I'm not doing what I went to school for or what I made a name for myself in the pre-press world. I turned my back on it...with no great fortune or really any assets at all. My wife works, I work a part time job and we support my family. I used to make a nice wage but I turned my back on it. I'm very happy now, but before with much more money, I certainly wasn't. My wife wasn't happy either as the stress and pressures of my job wore at our marriage. Now everything has turned around.
So for me, I would put happiness over money. Money is needed certainly, but there comes a time when the pursuit of money overwhelms one's happiness.
Is my situation typical and do I advocate everyone doing this? Of course not. But I grew up in the 70's...it was a cynical time for a teen. I grew up as a cynic. I suppose I've changed and now I'm going to a more hippy approach to things. I really want to help others. I honestly belive that in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
But, doesn't this provide a bit of an incentive to write opaque and quirky code with poor documentation so that people need your help?
What if you write opaque and quirky code with poor documentation, AND you charge for the software and THEN pay people you or "certified" people to help them?
Nah, software like this would never make it. Or would it?
This was gleened from the story topic:
If he's so positive, could he possibly know anything about software patents to say nothing of SCO?
Gee, looks pretty on topic to me!
They'll STILL be waiting for SCO to tell us which code is in violation.
Well, the Mac is different.

into your net connection, then doesn't it make it easier for a script kiddie to tap into your net connection also and intercept what you're doing?
Or spyware for that matter.
Actually, a student created BMRT and released it as freeware way back when....only later was he hired at Pixar, at which time he pulled it.

Yahoo is Yahoo...not a Sheriff's dept...which probably is pictures of the Sheriff holding up fish.
But to think this guy donated 300,000 bucks out of the kindness of his heart, as his fan site wants you to believe, is extreme.
Two articles, two opinions, two different views. Who's right?

It's certainly an interesting case.

oh sure, I hear where you're coming from...but RO is a game that's "not like the others". It's different, which is why I like it.
But don't get me wrong, I like the ut2004 demo too, love the new gameplay and other nice things and I'm going to buy it when it gets into the stores.

I know that broadband over power lines sounds nice, but what if you lose power? How ya gonna surf the....oh...um...nevermind.
I'm gonna clean up now at the coin-toss tables!
Unless they start implementing covering the coin-toss dealer's hand before flipping.
I think downtown Vegas has total view coin-toss tables though along with the 3 deck Blackjack shoes.

Is it me or do some of these applications seem like cheap, drunk floozies being passed around for different people to dance with at a party?
How many different owners did Painter go through? And Wordperfect? And Poser? And Bryce?
Someone needs to marry these apps and make them settle down.
Mod this up. He makes quite a few good points.
And he's right, I was being a tad crass.
