Ah, the fresh smell of ignorance in the morning. What you're failing to see is that over a century, lots of white men came in the enslave and rule people in Africa. When then finally decided to leave, they left the borders drawn the way they had kept them for administrative purposes. Now all these people in large swaths of land who had never interacted with each other on friendly terms are supposed to govern with each other? How exactly do you see that working? Read a history book.
Either that, or the Xbox 2 will be a PC, or at least a "Media Center", which is what most of the features being touted amount to. Doesn't seem so far-fetched.
If they distribute Sun's version of Java, then they're not allowed to distribute any other versions like gcj. That's why Debian doesn't distribute it. Blame Sun for their licensing. Check out the Java page on the wiki for installation instructions.
There is NO customer support other than the support you get from a listserv full of other people who can 't get help with their problems.
The developers are on the list and respond to many of the questions people have. Instead of having someone walk you through a flowchart of possible problems, you get real people who have dealt with the problems before. Anything new gets added to the wiki, which is pretty easy to search. Try it out before you say it's overrated. It's the best distro I've used.
Statistical figures (or any "scientific" figures, for that matter) are mostly meaningless without an error estimate (a.k.a. "confidence interval"). In fact, the lack of such estimates has been found to be a strong indication of bad research in 57.3% of all cases.
Umm... you didn't give a confidence interval for that 57.3%.
Spatial nautilus is perfect for everything in ~/. Getting used to it takes about a week or two, then you find yourself thinking "Hmm... I could move this directory and make it reside directly in ~/." Browsing for files ends up being way more efficient for me at least. When it comes to things like/usr/lib/gettext, I either press CTRL+L and type it in with tab completion, or I use my shortcut for "nautilus --browser --no-desktop" for a browser window. It's nice to have the browser as a backup, but for day to day file browsing, spatial nautilus rocks.
Spatial Nautilus isn't perfect, but it's improved in 2.8. It's not easy to adjust to it after years of hierarchical file browsing, but after using it for a few months, trying the old way feels just as uncomfortable as the original transition. If you don't want to try it, go ahead and turn it off. Just don't get mad about what they choose for the defaults if you refuse to even look at the merits of the decision.
Either way there are way too many fucking people on this planet and if you look at any population curve we are in deep trouble.
You realize that this problem will take care of itself, right? When an environment can't support a population, the population's size decreases until it gets to a manageable level. It makes no sense to promote death as the solution for overpopulation when death is the consequence that you're trying to avoid.

Well, most of the other ones don't kill you. Plus, other than herpes, HPV, and a few others, they're bacterial infections (read: treatable). Most people are willing to sacrifice a few weeks of burning during urination for lots of sex.
Does anyone want to explain why the number of people who bitch about this all the time isn;t directly proportional to the number of people who want to help fix it? If there's something you have trouble doing in the GIMP, why don't you email the devs explaining what you were trying to do and why you found it difficult? It doesn't take code to help a project.
From the article linked to the blog post, it seems that he got the reference decoder for the VC-1 standard, which is compatible with WMP9, to work in VLC. The headline makes it look like there was some sort of reverse engineering done here, but after actually reading the article (gasp), it doesn't seem like that's the case.
Kubuntu. Hoary should be a bit more KDE friendly than Warty was.

So we can forget Xbox 2, right.

The universe repository is basically Debian sid. You should be able to find almost anything if you add it to your sources in Synaptic.

Isn't that overkill for what he's describing? No one wants to spend $1299 on something they're going to use as a thin client.
In other new, WINE is now an emulator dispite its name.
At least the acronym stays the same.

Hmm... it worked when I posted it. Weird.

Unless you have an old embarassing picture on the internet somewhere. Then Google sucks.
Try rainbow as your query.

Linspire?
In the hierarchy of human needs, I do not remember reading about software patent issues.
You don't? It was right under self-actualization. Maslow wouldn't overlook something that important.
Also, being able to turn on and off various plug-ins wouldn't hurt.
Edit -> Preferences -> Downloads -> Plug-ins
Uncheck the file types that use the plug-in you want to disable.
File -> Open Location (Ctrl+L)

What's funny is that we may have even infected Mars with our own bacteria when we sent several probes there.
Funny? Funny?! Our new Martian overlords don't think so, you insensitive clod!
Or someone who wanted to take down sites that are highly visible in the geek community? It did get on slashdot, after all.
And when they don't come with cover art, there's always Muine.

In Korea, only old people have bad memory!
In Korea, only old people make oh so funny remarks that they are still not done compiling the old version before the new one comes out!
Must... kill... meme... or else someone will add it to the slashdot subculture page on Wikipedia before the day is over...
