In fact, many programmers will probably "give away the razor and charge for the blades" by creating software frameworks then charging reasonable fees for custom enhancements as users desire them.
Examples: Fluendo, Canonical, and Imendio. They're all pretty new companies, so while we may not know how sound the business model is, we'll know soon.
You've paid for the DVD. You've paid for the DVD drive. Yet for some reason you have a desire to pay extra to use those two things together. Chances are you've probably already paid extra to use the two together, but you only have the Windows software to do so since most retail DVD drives and new computers come with a DVD decoder. Don't beg the MPAA to make you pay again.

I'm guessing some law student got her password cracked, and the school took down the file when they found out what happened.

One common "literacy test" was to require the black would-be voter to recite the entire U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence from memory."

Most Debian packages work in Ubuntu. For instance, many people have successfully used the Debian mplayer packages from an unofficial mirror on Ubuntu. The reason why they suggest not mixing Debian packages into an Ubuntu install is because the versioning may be different and apt can get confused. Most Debian packages are present in the universe section of the Ubuntu repository, so it's not that big of a deal.
The MS bug is fixed in SP2, however, many people haven't installed SP2 since it breaks programs. If they offered an individual patch for it, less people would be complaining.
That means, if I have such an implanted device and I stroll into the men's locker room at the local health club, I could record what I see and open a peep show porno site.
Porn rule number one: naked females are worth more than naked males. If you've got the technology to stick a camera in your eye, can't you invest a little in a wig, bra and water balloons to sneak your way into the women's locker room?
I've never been near a wind power plant, so I'm not really sure, but this doesn't seem to make sense to me. Fans in a computer are loud because they are speeding up air, thereby creating sound. A wind turbine is slowing down air, so shouldn't it just reduce the noise you'd normally hear from whatever wind is passing by?
I hope families don't buy Macs then. Except for being cheaper than Windows computers, they fit right into your example.
They get it home, and then they realize that they have to jump through hoops to play this game or open this document from work.
If anything , they'd be surprised than they can open their work documents without having to install any extra software, as most Linux distros come with an office suite, unlike Windows. I'm sure that most people know that if they bought a Mac some of their old programs might not work. Why wouldn't they consider this with Linux? I never thought I'd ever say this, but I think you underestimate the knowledge of the general population.
Something like this is terrific for secure environments too. Guaranteed no internet connection or root powers, even with physical access. It's only a printer, calculator, or data entry computer for practical purposes.
The Supreme Court isn't to blame for this. The judiciary only serves to interpret laws, and in the case of the Supreme Court, the Constitution. Even if they didn't agree with the law (I didn't read the justices' opinions on the case so I'm not sure), it's constitutional. Legislators are supposed to be the ones writing laws that represent their constituents. That's the weak link in the chain you should be focusing on.
Has anyone found a way to harness the energy of our founding fathers rolling in their graves? Whoever does, cut me in on the profits, will you?

Jim Crow laws. Generally regarded as a bad thing.

Perhaps we should add a mini IQ test to the ballot, that would really screen out the stupid people.
I'd like to introduce you to Jim Crow.

Successful companies don't make promises they're not sure they can keep. If Google runs for public office on the other hand...

Even if you were an Intel fan, the 6 GHz overlords wouldn't need you. They're liquid cooled.

Makes sense. Debian woody has aged quite a bit. It might start having trouble with uptime.
You know you can install a newer kernel on top of Debian stable, right? It's just like any other distro in that regard.

1. Write post.
2. Insert typos.
3. Correct typos in another post.
4. Karma!

Now I can hold up my MP3 player in front of my girlfriend's house and play In Your Eyes to win her back!
But if I actually had a girlfriend to win back, I wouldn't be posting on Slashdot, would I?
