You are mistaken. Most Muslims are not terrorist, but a plurality to a majority often support terrorism, depending on the region in question. The fact that most terrorists are Muslims requires a change in tactics and strategy from, say, targeting radical environmental terrorists or lone wolf terrorists. For instance, one would infiltrate and monitor a radical mosque to combat Islamic terrorism, not Greenpeace.
Considering that most terrorists are Muslim, somewhat ironic that anti-terrorism laws are being used to silence those who "insult Islam." How else is Islam going to be civilized and reformed from within if criticism and debate on the state of Islam in the modern world is crushed in a major Muslim nation, Malaysia, keeping in mind most of the world's Muslims live in Asia?
Consumers might not know the difference between "XP" and "Vista," but they do know the "Windows" brand, so as long as it has "Windows" in it, they will seek out and buy it.
I think it was to advertise the fact that Windows was a GUI, with windows, and not a command-line only UI such as MS-DOS. I think Xenix would be the closest thing you could find to Microsoft Unix. If you can find it, and also find an ancient configuration to run it on.
Horrible idea, would never be put into practice. MS already spent years merging the 9x consumer brand into the NT-based line. There's no reason they would then spit it again and have to deal with two not fully compatible platforms, requiring a separate support base for each one.
I guess we can surmise that Macintosh market share of PCs has stabilized at slightly over 6%, and everyone else prefers Windows, with a smattering of Linux and other alternatives thrown in.
...and they have no clue what they're talking about. Try handling multiple conversations on multiple topics concurrently on your cell phone. How are you going to send attachments? Search e-mails for pertinent data? Think in full sentences? Write multi-paragraph, logical arguments and positions that are a sign of and required of adulthood? Whoever is relying on text messaging and adding multiple steps by effectively using proprietary online mail on social networking sites isn't a future anything of tomorrow. They'll just float around, not really having any skills or abilities that others would find useful.
What would the response time be for these iron-oxide particle coated with plastic goop be? Anything over 6 or 8ms would be a problem for anything but static displays.
What is the business/marketing logic behind selling them at a presumed loss for 1 week only? I'm quite happy with my cheap Apex DVD player that is maybe 4-5 years old or so, and have no plans to move to anything else, as I'm also quite happy with my 15 year old 20" TV set. It does seem to me that Blue-Ray is far and away the winner of this very brief format war, so maybe this is just an attempt to sell some HD-DVD players while they still can?
"The NY Times is reporting that the former Surgeon General in damaging testimony given to the senate (sic) describes how he was repeatedly censored by the Bush administration while speaking out about topics such as global warming..."
I may have missed something, but since when does the position of Surgeon General, an appointment concerned with medicine, overlap with earth science? Political appointees should not be going off on wild tangents, totally unconnected to their field of expertise. It sounds like this guy was too busy playing in the sandbox, and wasn't spending enough time in the office.
"I can't help but think that this a move to slyly demonize FOSS by scaring businesses into thinking they don't know what's on their PCs."
Looks to me that this is just a simple inventory tool so business has an idea of what's on their machines, and perhaps if they see that people, having appropriate account permissions on the PC, are voluntarily installing open source alternatives, say OpenOffice instead of MS Office, businesses may be more conducive to migrating to OSS, or at least openly accepting it.
Business have no clue what's on their machines. That's why you have staff workers running around as admin all the time, and picking up literally thousands of instances of spyware/adware/malware. They just can't get enough toolbars and cute fluffy pointers.
I'm skeptical. The source article, by stating "these scientists from Granada determined that the use of olive-pomace oil can produce an 80% slowing down in AIDS spreading in the body," conflates HIV with AIDs. You can slow down the spread a virus, such as the human immunodeficiency virus, in the body. You cannot slow down the spread of a syndrome, theorized not as caused directly by HIV, but by opportunistic infections as a result of HIV infection, in the body; only said opportunistic infections.
"Customers are supposed to be informed by both the sales person and the installer that their first-mile copper will be cut, and this is not happening."
I don't think so. They pretty much scream this in the product literature, and it's become just something people are generally aware of. If you don't know they're snipping your copper, you probably also aren't really bothering to check if a used car you are interested in has an accident history, or reviewing a home inspection report before buying a house. Or picking up bottles at random to drink out of without checking if they contain bleach.
I think you'd be surprised at who shops at Wal-Mart...even massively wealthy John Edwards has been known to seek their wares. In any case, I wonder if it will taste more like calamari, or octopus.
So does that mean I could examine every single file on your computer, including your e-mail, passwords, financial data, etc, by saying I'm looking for kiddie-porn? What if I come up with nothing at all? Does probable cause not matter? Does it matter that I'm also not a law enforcement agent, much less one with a search warrant?
Doesn't surprise me. I've only known of Geek Squad since they were purchased by Best Buy, and they always emanated the strong aura of oily, unscrupulous car salesmen, except not having any real idea of what a car, or in this case computers, are. Kitschy VW Bugs and goofy uniforms should scream "Image, no technical expertise" to anyone that's listening. Only very few can successfully do both.
This is something I've been aware of and have thought about for years, and I do what I can to get the most gasoline per X money by pumping gas during the evening or nighttime. This doesn't bring it down to 60F during the summer, of course, but it's less expensive than pumping during the mid-day heat, and I save even more during the winter months by pumping when the sun is down.

Do you have a website detailing your setup? I am very curious, as I have never seen or heard of an active Xenix install before.
Consumers might not know the difference between "XP" and "Vista," but they do know the "Windows" brand, so as long as it has "Windows" in it, they will seek out and buy it.

Yes, it would appear Slashdot has a nub tagging infestation...
Government conducting "meaningful oversight" over government? Oh boy, I feel safe now.

It's not a prototype. It's a first unit of the class production run.

That's certainly going out on a limb...

evokes > evoking.
As almost any argument on Wikipedia ends up evokes Godwin's Law...
Agreeing with all of the above, that does make the uber-parent title a bit ludicrous, and /., once again, stupid and undiscerning.
