Yes they are both great languages. I prefer Python because it is used as scripting language for Blender and Gimp, but I do not hate Perl at all and use it sometimes too.
no propaganda. i have seen these wars. i have seen people dying. women, children, my friends. well, you may call them collateral damage but i have been calling her my girfriend.
ehh? i am graphic designer. well i can code but i am more an end user than a developer. and for me, gnome is much more better. nicer. more stable. more intuitive. it reminds me of macos, which i used before linux. may be kde is more windows like. but it does not mean better
i didnt it intentionally, i have been more than 3 meters away and wanted him to leave (he was spending the whole evening in our flat , with me and my girlfriend). i spilled my wine but in such aa strange way it reached the computer - display, cpu, rams, motherboard all dead:) it has to be telekinetics or some psi power:)
no. have you seen gimp 2.0 interface? it is different but for me it is far superior to photoshop. i think there is no point in copying windows interfaces. (the bad thing is that cinepaint, filmgimp, has not this 2.0 interface yet). btw, when you are talking about photoshop interface, which one do you mean? mac or win? mac - multiple free windows, is much more similar to the gimp. and i think it is better. isnt the win version different jsut due to the limitation of windows windowing system? (at least historically?). and you cannot compare gimp features to photoshop 5 features. there are features in gimp family that photoshop 8 (cs) lacks and these are very important features. and vice versa. there are even important features in photoshop 1 (!) which you cannot find in gimp
you can replace Photoshop with Gimp and/or Cinepaint in many cases. Sometimes you cannot (if you need CMYK) , sometimes you cannot do it the other way (HDR, deep paint -it is what Cinepaint aka FilmGimp excels in). Both programs are different, both have advantages, disadvantages, different uses. I am pro graphic designer, you can believe me:)
IMHO, TV is dead technology. Why TV if broadband Internet connection is available? I didnt use TV for 5 years or more. When i want to see real quality movie I go to the cinema, everything other is better available on the Net. Looking around me, i see only old people watching TV. And unemployed people. I see no future fior TV. It will blend with the Net probably anytime soon.
"AFAIK, Prime Ministers have always been used in Monarchies instead of democracies. So I'm a bit confused here...":-/ ---- huh??? I am from czech REPUBLIC (not monarchy) and WE have prime minister. well we do not have just now because the government resigned this week but we usually have.
have you ever done the same work on unix? may be you just lack the comparsion. I have started on Mac, then came to Windows, than back to both OS X and Linux.
May be the difference is i do not design for real $$$. I prefer real currency:)
Gimp and Cinepaint is available. And apart from CMYK support it is at least fully comparable tool, if not better. And I am a graphic designer and Photshop(i know mac version)/Gimp/Cinepaint is my main tool for making money. Cinepaint even can do things Photoshop cannot. And i hope, CMYK will be available soon (it is sort of waporvare:(
i am home user and i am very satisfied with linux. i work as a computer graphic most of the time. Graphic tools for Linux are very good (both free - Gimp Cinepaint Blender... and non free - Maya...). The only other platform I can use is Mac (also Unix). Windows is not very usable in my field. It crash too often. I cannot trust it. So I am not undisturbed enough to be really creative.
of course i wanted to write density waves:) my mistake. "Look at that structure, it's so regular!" marveled imaging team leader Carolyn Porco as a picture came in showing well-defined bands of brightness and darkness. "I'm wondering if we're looking at a density wave. This looks like it might be a density wave, but I'm not quite sure."
Density waves, caused by gravitational interactions with nearby moons, are thought to be "kissing cousins" of the waves that produce the spiral structure seen in galaxies like Earth's Milky Way.
"These are regions where the rings are communicating gravitationally with the moons exterior to them," Porco explained. A few moments later: "Oh my God, look at that!... These density waves are like books, just waiting to be read."

yes. it is little strange date. BUT - Beagle was not ESA developed - it was private briutish project, his mothership Mars Express was ESA project. Ant she is succesful. And not only lander is ESA developed. Also Cassini itself, the mothership, contains lots of European work.

May be Python is even better for beginners to play and learn.
it is possible because such spelling is kommon in most european languages

czech, slovak, german, greek, russian. most european languages, i think
So Beagle finally called home?
send it to me please :)

why to use something you do not need? if python is enough, why use jython?
are you talking about US army?

we in Europe certainly can build our own missile. Dont worry :)

I have little confused it , the second part, starting "This has just been..." was said by Ed Weiler, NASA's associate administrator for space science.
