You can't copyright the flavor of the icecream which makes your argument moot. Monopolies destroy the markey, copyright started as a time limited monopoly, but effectively gone now.
Sometimes I have to ask myself, what do I get out of copyright as it stands today? Public domain is stale with little adding to it while production of copyrighted works and profit from them is at an all time high. The works I want aren't (legaly) avainlable here anyway, not to mention insane prices compared to typical income. What do I get? Marketing to get me excited over things I can't buy, thank you copyright!
You can either pay or not pay, but you can't get it from anyone else. So we have an important product (mainstream culture) and a monopoly. It follows that prices go up and capitalism does not help us.
I am a graphics professional turned web guy, have used various versions of Photoshop on PC since 1995.
Photoshop feels much more intuitive
When you have used something for that long it will grow on you no matter how brain dead it is, I don't say PS's interface is brain dead, just that you are not in the position to objectively compare it to GIMP.
IMHO, if you do serious things than you can as well learn about the matter at hand, learning a new interface isn't all that big in this context. Even with such "unfriendly" interfaces as Cinelerra it doesn't take more than one project to laern all the vital funtions.
Cameras with USB mass storage or flash cards won't give problems. Check with SANE before buying a scanner. Yes, this won't help with current hardware, but the skined pieces of crap software that they come with is barley usable anyway.
Dear haX0rsaw,
"changing the law to allow trading copyrighted material over the internet without permission" is a copyprotection circumvention method, you are not allowed to tell others about it.

Emacs is what an operating enviroment, with excelent built in editing capabilities.
Nethack.
eMacs? eMacs?! It's either EMACS, Emacs or emacs but please don't bring Apple into an editor argument...
How would that help to make the counting more transparent? :-D
I don't think there's Half-Life for OS X.
I know that is't a lot different, that's why I was asking why he thought that GIMP isn't beeing used in non-print areas professionaly.
If you can copy the money without taking any of mine be my guest.
It isn't? Do you doubt that the GIMP is used professionaly in non-print graphics (web design, games)? Even if GIMP isn't used Cinepaint sure is.
You live, you die.
Don't live.
Eye jamming colour scheme, /. does not want you to read this.
Why in the world should we tolerate ingorance?
I hear there is a considerable number of people in Chine these days...

Maya does not come close to 3ds Max functionality?

They don't care, just look at the IT section theme...
50k is what they will be paying for the ad. :-)
