It's all about choices, as we are discovering even clean sources of energy can have negative environmental effects.

Nuclear is not 'insanely dangerous' by any means and is pretty much sustainable as in we are not likely to run out of nuclear fuel anytime soon.

If the waste gets too much of a problem then we can force the energy industry to develop technologies to fire the waste into the heart of the sun and do some useful space based R&D into the bargain.

So far as I can see assessing everything on it's merits nuclear comes out top, and the founder of Greenpeace now agrees as well.

There is still no empire though, the US holds something like 14 territories whereas Britain and France hole 15 and 16 respectively and that is the real tail end of Britains Empire building.

Whilst military bases might provide the US with a global military reach they don't generate any direct income or economic benefit which is the real point of Empires.

These bases are also based on the countries they are hosted in tolerating their existence which is fine in peacetime but likely to be reversed fairly quickly in anything like a major conflict, at least in the areas where it would matter.

America doesn't really have an Empire, it has military bases scattered about the place but that's it.

However it is the worlds most powerful country and it may well have been the case in the past that other countries in the same position may have just suited themselves that doesn't mean it's a good thing and indeed a lot of Empire began to fall apart when they did start to consider their effects on those around them, this is one reason why America is not still a part of the British Empire.

It's horrible to see companies making use of the web to earn themselves money and attempting to do daft stuff like this to force me to use the web in the way they would prefer rather than the way which suits me.

It wasn't user error, my system was locked down - I couldn't mess with anything even if I wanted to.

You set Outlook up to MS Word as an e-mail editor and see how long it takes before it crashes, I could usually get a good hour or so.

If there is a spike and it is at the right time then the machine has detected a global conciousness

If there is no spike anywhere near the event then the machine must just not have registered that event.

Rather than studying why that it is, e.g. by looking at how the 1's and 0's are generated for example it seems they have jumped to the conclusion that they must be measuring some kind of pyschic energy which no one has yet shown to exist. I am finding it hard to equate that with a scientific method.

You are making a mistake in equating the amount of news coverage an event receives with the depth of feeling people feel for an event.

For example the last few days there has been a lot of coverage about Prince Charles re-marrying, according to your theory this means everyone cares deeply about the event whereas in fact no one really gives a toss.

The last we have heard about the Tsunami is that aid is now being delivered and the task of clearing up and rebuilding is beginning, if this changes then I would like to hear about but if the situation remains the same then I do not need daily updates saying the same action is being taken and things are slowly improving as expected.

I have attended 2 Tsunami fund raising events in the last 2 weeks and there are still donation boxes in most supermarkets which people are still using so it seems we do still care about the disaster and want to help.
