your correct but also the fact we are hitting the limits of what we can do with gfx. games just are not going to look all that much better on newer hardware why 4 year old gaming rigs still handle new games just fine. and as you said the cost and time to make that super hires game is only going to get higher why many game company's are going back to the lower gfx games and going to good game play or awesome story's eg the stuff tell tail games have put out or nintendo. sony and Microsoft atm have no idea where to go next due to the gfx increases return on new hardware is getting lower and lower.
maybe back 1995 but now if your hardware isn't sold at least brake even you never make the money back in other sales. sony knew this but the insane price of the ps3 hurt it so much they had no choice but to sell it at a huge lose just to get it off the shelf's lets face it 699 make for good desktop upgrades.

removing the ads they probably could have done nothing bought many have tried before them to kill ad-blocking only to get stomped in the dirt by the courts. the downloading Google always has a fit bought for good reason it keeps the content holders off there backs for the most part. they have gone after apps and websites in the past for the very same reason not that it really stops anyone. but for the out of tuch content holders at least they show a effort to stop it.

i have seen office boxes all the way down to a 486 running dos. taco bell cash registers are 486 boxes i think to this day. the fact is basic info storing or number crunching boxes used in a offline setting have no need in ever upgrading unless they get broken.
but then they will blame pirates when this gimmick has low sales. there is a few test bed sites in the usa with this tec and it was found to be just annoying.

same thing with the job issues over taxing has drove people out of the usa. lots of other stuff to like runaway unions etc but you get the idea.
