There are many ESOPs (Employee Stock Ownership Plan)s for private companies. Usually an accounting firm comes in an audits the company annually to set the share price for the forthcoming year. Vesting periods vary. Cashing out is usually done if the company is bought, if the employee leaves the company, etc. I was lucky enough at one company to leave right before they disbanded their ESOP, they vested everyone 100% without regard to service time, and even though I had already given notice and was going to be gone before the ESOP termination I received a great going away present, 100% of my shares.
P/E isn't stated as a percentage because the price is almost always higher than the earnings. If it's not then you should be buying a lot of that particular stock.
Yes, smart people could come up with a great search engine. But you'd need rich people to support it's infrastructure if it got popular. Or you need a company that makes a PROFIT to run it. Otherwise it's going to disappear. Common sense.
The CLE is for Novell's products that run on Linux, not for Linux itself. And the question was what criteria should Novell use to signify their partners as "Linux specialists". That criteria could include certifications, or it may not.
......"it is wrong to use one's knowledge and the cover of academia to facilitate piracy and theft of digital property". I'd say it's more wrong to fleece clients with such an easily circumventable product. Halderman is a hero for warning possible buyers of this product.
...on my 2x800Mhz. Very disturbing as it was only 18 months old and all my cheap ass PC power supplies are going strong, supplies that are anywhere from 2 to 7 years old. I had my local independent Apple shop replace the power supply and everything seemed to be ok until I had it on for an hour and it just powered off suddenly. It seems that it is getting hot and shutting off. All the fans seem to be working well but it won't stay powered on for more than an hour or two. I haven't had a chance to take it back in yet.
This is really disappointing. My first Mac and it feels like a lemon.
Please. My Sun Blade 100 was $1000. My only home computer for 18 months, sat on my desktop, used by me and my decidely non-technical wife (typical consumer). 64 bit processor with 64 bit OS.
I have a G4 now and am very happy with it and OS X. I am very unhappy with the BS from Apple's marketing department, however.
That's why the food analogy is pathetic. At a basic level everyone knows how to eat. Just throw a burrito or burger down the pie hole. A car or a computer should have recognizable basic controls so Joe Blow can ask his favorite uncle how to do something. If all cars were different you would have to look for a specialist in your car to learn how to drive. Waste of time.
...as energy or transportation but you can't imagine how many poorly secured Windows boxes we receive from vendors to run our broadcasts. Not a week goes by where something isn't missing from a newscast because of some new worm or blank passwords on the administrator account. Why we continue buying from vendors who insist on no anti-virus software installed on their boxes, or whose apps are set up to run under an auto logged on admin account is beyond me. Many of these machines are in unsecured areas where any visitor can walk up to the machine and have instant admin access. Pathetic.
Firstly, you're comparing third party software (bash on cygwin) with shells that are native on OS X, I wasn't talking about fink and X11 (although at least X11 is supplied by Apple. Again, is Cygwin and bash supplied by MS?). Secondly, your comment "...very natural way to configure the system. In OSX bash is a sort of... uselss for that" reeks of ignorance regarding OS X. Thirdly, bash is the most bloated, insecure shell out there. BSDer's use sh, ksh, or csh, only clueless Linux newbies use bash.
"There are almost no PC manufacturers that don't put out machines designed to die of power supply failure inside of 24 months, anymore."
Now there's a troll if I ever saw one. All my clone PCs and Dells that are older than 24 months are working just fine. And since neither you nor I can predict when the younger machines will fail I say your really full of shit now.
Course, it's not uncommon for Mac fanatics to be unable to discern the difference between myth and reality.
Like I said, I use both PCs and Macs, a Mac being my primary desktop at home and a PC being my desktop at work, and there's a big difference in performance.
1. I couldn't stand the Classic GUI. 2. Classic's horrible multi-tasking.
I love my dual 800Mhz now (expect for some current hardware problems).
...but they all suck. Our helpdesk spends considerable time cleaning them out.

Then why are my PCs all running fine after 2-7 years but my G4 died after 18 months?
I have a 2x800. The power supply was $175. How much do 2 CPUs cost?
This is really disappointing. My first Mac and it feels like a lemon.

Bwahahahaha, and you believe that? Puhlease.
You mean less free?
Guster? eGag.
Some punk you are supporting such an unpunk format.
I'll be happy to buy at $12.98 a pop.

You must be the luckiest man on earth! Do you play your local lottery?

So Cygwin is included with Windows? Your trolls are pathetic.
s/linux/OpenBSD/g and I'd agree with your sentiment. Your post was very funny nonetheless!
