I wish there was a third dimension in scoring - dreck to non-dreck - as I would like to read non-dreck even if offtopic or subject to the accusation of "flamebait" or "troll" (which often means a limited sense of humor on part of the moderator).

Sorry this is impacting you badly, however change happens and it seems these days change is happening faster. I work with business owners who face similar changes and I have some advice:

    1. recheck who your customers are and what they want - ask your customers what they buy and where

    2. recheck "reality" (it changes too) - with P2P a huge amount of indy material will become available for free - not pirated - free - you could be in an impossible situation

    3. review the strengths that you have - good ethical employees - established business - name recognition - place in the community - and consider how you might re-focus these strengths to serve you customers and the community better

    4. ask your employees - tell them what is happening and what you wish you could do - they are in direct contact at levels different than you and may provide really valuable insight

You did say this to yourself already, "Do people prefer to watch TV, see films, read books? I don't know." It is time you found out.

    Good luck.

ps Being a response to a parent modded "Offtopic" might get this modded down, which is "ok" as I am just trying to help this guy - having seen this situation dozens of times before.

So - after huge losses over many years - the board has decided to try something (anything!!) which can recover a few bucks for the hapless investors. SCO was doing that too - just in a nasty way. I think TMTA is more likely to be on the side of the angels (I hope!!) - making arrangement for 100 folks to continue in a manner that puts bread on the table and derives value from all their hard work sounds good to me.

Now, I read a bit about "CELL" technology. It sounds like it has some pretty significant potential and just might gain some real traction because of the heavyweights involved (metaphor intended). Cheap - cool - scalable - code morphing - low power - cheap to run - this kind of mix might result in some really seriously amazing stuff over the next 5-6 years. You will really know it when your refrigerator tells you that you asked it to remind you if you were snacking too often. Yah, good thing.

Proposed rule is attempting to define where it should set the line as to what to "regulate" - and "regulate" does not mean "stiffle".

The target from my reading of the proposed rule is "expenditures for communication that have been coordinated with a candidate, a candidate's authorized committee, or a political party"(http://www.fec.gov/agenda/2005/mtgdoc05-16. pdf).

IMO that is a good thing to know about a blogger who voices strong opinions and is being PAID for them. Where it gets confusing is defining how to focus on who/what/how/where - and the FEC tried to define it based on economics (site and related costs of $250). I consider this ridiculously low, but the intent to allow individual bloggers below that amount a BLANKET EXEMPTION was IMO of good intent.

What remains is for folks to make considered comment - which they requested (respond to internet@fec.gov today!).

Do make it considered. Point out that a non-professional blogger can spend $100 @ month on his "hobby" (?hobbyhorse?). None of us wants the burden of having to determine if we need to respond as regulated, while we do want the obvious politico's and their hacks to be so required.
