I really wish you guys would commit the patch for the nsec build issue. I don't know the details, and I can't find it on google now (I only find it by using the error message I get), but every time I go to cross build NetBSD from my FreeBSD 5.x i386 box to my SPARCstation (which I have to do because the 2.0 GENERIC kernel is too big) it fails on./build.sh -m sparc tools or whatever. Then I have to hunt down the error message, find the patch, apply it, and it works.
I'm sure you're aware of it, is there any reason you're not applying it? It'd save me a bit of a hassle if you did.:D
But really, the NetBSD build infastructure is the coolest. I'm keeping the tooldir and objdir around and using them to port this project I'm working on to SPARC.
Firefox has many great features over IE. The fact that tabbed browsing creates the most hype shouldn't devalue your opinion of it. In fact, why is your opinion of something tied in any way to the opinions and statements of others?
There is also RSS feeds, and of course being able to just type and have it open a little find box in the bottom is pretty useful too. I'd bust my brain and think some more but I haven't used IE in a few years (and it hasn't changed at all since then, or so I hear), I do not feel that I should be here reciting what is easily found by reading the FireFox page out to you.
I realize that you said you use Mozilla, which makes your ranting seem... weird... but regardless, when it comes between FireFox and IE; I pick the moving train, thank you.
Actually, setaglib. I have a bit of a proposal for you. I've got a spare HD, and I have time. I could do bencmarks between Linux and all of the BSDs and post them publicly. Fair benchmarks.
The problem is that I don't really do this kind of thing, so I don't know what software package to use.
If you, or others, could kindly link me to effective benchmarking software, I would gladly donate my time towards giving facts for/against these aligations.
My computer has common hardware (VIA motherboard, SB Live, GeForce FX, Realtek network card) so no OS should be disadvantaged because my system is poorly supported.
The thing to keep in mind is that NetBSD is more conservative than FreeBSD. It really depends on what you want. If you need "bleeding edge" features, stick with the latest FreeBSD release, but don't be afraid to bleed. If I didn't need my nVidia drivers (the official ones -- the version that DOESN'T suck:p) NetBSD would be an option for me on the Desktop.
Definitely worth considering too, it's an extremely solid system that I have a lot of faith in.
Where can you find the source for this OS (the embedded one), I wouldn't mind having a look at your 1337 coding skillz, since I've not seen a single line you've written yet.
Do note that word of these `patches' that fix all of FreeBSD 5's problems only started showing up after he left the mailing list. When he left he was ranting about how FreeBSD is the greatest OS ever.
I guess there are two reasons for him bringing up these patches.
1) People mocking him for taking FreeBSD, rebranding it, and trying to sell it for lots of money. 2) To try and trick people into giving him undue respect.
When you left -current I had some respect for you. You didn't seem to really have a problem with anyone -- just wanted some information.
Now look. You're a run of the mill BSD troll on SlashDot. What happened to you?
Personally, and your "customers" may disagree with me on this one, I would never buy an OS from someone that spends all of his time demeaning the work of others on public forums.
Your critizism isn't even constructive, it's vague and without merit. Like that conversation between DES and Matt Dillon. I don't know what you see, but I see two skilled coders disagreeing about something. Yes, normal disagreements can involve some harsh words. Yes people get angry; they get frustrated. Shit happens. But at the end of the day you have two projects, two ways of doing things, and it's YOUR choice as to which one performs better.
So what do I see? I see two groups of people getting into a fight about something and setting out to prove their ways. Everyone benefits from this. I look at you and what do I see? I see a man that fights only with hollow words.
Good luck to both the FreeBSD and DragonFlyBSD team.
He's clearly not defending Bill Gates. He's trying to sort through specific issues in what you said that don't make sense to him.
I mean, either you definitely have Bill Gates in the wrong or you don't. If you do, answering his questions is a simple matter. If you don't, well, then his question asking dismantled some disinformation. Good for him.
Did you even read the post that I was responding to? He said the license change was only in apache2. I said he was wrong, that it's in apache1 as well.
Although I do appreciate how you told me I was incorrect and then proceeded to say something (supposedly correcting me) that I never disputed in my original post.

Hey, you. You're a NetBSD advocate.
Make them release 2.0 already. I bought CD-R's specifically for this and I'll be damned if I don't get a chance to use them soon!
In this light, I believe there should be a game out where you play JFK, and you shoot Oswald.
In Soviet Russia, JFK assasinates you!

Communication would be good.

If you want convincing benchmarks, go make your own. This guy is merely saying what he has experienced.
Personally I take it all with a grain of salt, but I plan on flying NetBSD 2 on my Desktop for a bit to see if it's true for myself.

Awwww, what? Is he making it harder for you to rip off, rebrand, resell, and claim credit for other peoples work?

I think there was a typo in your post.
Surely you meant "Operating systems copied and rebranded by T. Hawkins: 1".
I've got a better idea. It's called put up, or shut up.
Unlike you, they have a product that I can download and test. However, since you're such a reputable person I'll just take your word for it! ;)
Oh my God! He replied to me with anonymous copy and paste trolling! I had better go out and buy his OS right now!

Okay Hawkins.
I'm sorry that you're such an idiot.
"As I said in my post I was running firefox 0.9.3 on Debian/gnu when I ran the tests."
"So, the whole test, which was meant to take down non-MSIE browsers just puts MS Windows in a bad daylight."
You're right! That DOES put MS Windows in bad light!

Case in Point:
:)
Microsoft has many many more Computer Science Ph.D.s working on Windows than Linux does.
Hmmmmm.....

How do these apples appeal to you, fignuts?
