Does it ever occur to you that people use iPods or get tattoos or piercings because (gasp) they want to? And that things become popular for a reason, that is, that people LIKE to get them?
I really can't stand it when people say things like "oh, you're being sooooo unique" sarcastically when they're trying to make themselves seem different from everyone else.
You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. Neither am I. (Do I get ten points off for quoting "Fight Club"? The horror! A popular movie that I liked, and I quoted it!)
But since linksys uses linksys, aren't there specific routers that use default? Thus using default is the same as using linksys; one can easily look up the default user/pass and log in to it.
iTMS-bought tracks don't work on anything but the iPod. MP3s work with a lot of players. And even if your player isn't supported by iTunes, is it Apple's responsibility to make sure you can use it with iTunes? Or is it your MP3 player manufacturer's responsibility to provide you with a method of transferring MP3s?
Nobody said you had to use iTunes to listen to MP3s.
People say this a lot. I am not arguing with you about it, I am simply wondering why someone hasn't tried to own a Linux or OS X box on a grand enough scale that nobody could argue about their security. People talk about security through obscurity enough, but what about being the first person to hack OS X? Wouldn't that be worth it?
That could not have been less of an answer to my question. I asked how it was possible that you cared so much about appearance that you gave up OS X for Win2K.
Does appearance matter, or is it just the illusion of consistency in appearance?
I call shenanigans. You're so anal retentive that you gave away a G4 iBook and went BACK to Win2K because of the inconsistencies in the look of OS X?
Dude, that doesn't make sense. Doesn't Windows drive you crazy? I mean, if you're that concerned about appearance. Do you not care about what's going on underneath?
(I'm sorry of this comes off as mean, I'm honestly shocked that that was your response to some little inconsistencies. Really.)
Dude, he was just answering what the guy asked about. GP said "Gosh, I thought it was this" and Parent was responding.
Ahhh, I love that correct grammar is seen as being intellectually elite or pretentious. And by "love", I mean "loathe". What's wrong with wanting to be as correct as possible?
I was joking in the sense that you think it's okay for women to wear bikinis but not for men to wear Speedos. I mean, there are people out there who want to see men in Speedos, and you're not the only person in the world, so come on.
No, it's not that you don't KNOW that your apps are hung, it's that you can give it a few minutes and don't have to stand there waiting, hoping that the entire thing doesn't crash. You can switch over to PS and save that thing you were working on while Mail crashes.
I don't know why they chose cmd-click not to focus, but I like it. It makes sense to me - click this and it will be in focus, but you have to alter your click for it to not behave in a normal way.
Okay, the thing about France aside, that's awesome that Linkin Park is pledging $100K. I wonder if any other celebrities will get in on this. I'm sure more can afford to give tens of thousands of dollars and barely miss it.
The built-in spell checker is great as well. How about when one app crashes it doesn't take the rest of your system with it? If Mail dies a sad death, I can still be using Safari with no system slow down.
I use it because I often find things while at work that would be useful to know about in the future. I can find a link that I thought was interesting a month ago when I'm at home, or at a friend's house, or whatever.
I don't know about importing, or the security, but come on. Don't use a high-level password for this kind of thing.
Huh. I have had my iBook for over two years now and while it is sluggish in some ways, it has been my only machine for that length of time and has served me very well.
I found it to be much more durable than the tiBooks that my friends had, but perhaps I am more careful with it.
Just my experience though. It's been a good little machine for me.
Wait, how did Real not reverse engineer the DRM that Apple uses?
And do you think that Real is going to apologize to their customers for giving them music that might work on an iPod but might not? Or are they going to blame Apple? This seems like sour grapes to me. Real wanted a cut of Apple's action and when they couldn't get it, they did this and are going to blame Apple for being inflexible.
You didn't need to get rude about it. I honestly didn't understand and was looking for clarification.
Yes, there is a huge base of players that don't handle DRM. They all, to my knowledge, handle music that is ripped or copied from CDs. Unless CDs go the way of 8-tracks, I don't see your scenario happening in the terribly near future.
Maybe someday, though. The point about DVDs was valid; I hate that stupid region system.

Whine whine whine, 6A took something they were giving away and started charing for it, whine whine whine.
Why didn't you just install 2.63? Nobody said you had to have the fastest best or newest.
Or they're joking, like the vynlgirl mentioned above.

I just don't see why nobody's done it.
Does it actually say discreet?
Man, I don't want my devices to be subtle about things. I want them to be discrete. As in separate.
(I am correcting it because CNet should freaking know better. That's ridiculous.)

Man do I wish I hadn't already replied in this thread. That made me laugh.
Nice try, bigot.

Where's Bill Gates?
Yes, but they also pull their leg right back in after kicking, don't they?
(Although I'm sure the GP meant figure skaters.)
See, it's not even that I have any arguments to say that this is false, except, well, why hasn't anyone hacked a Mac, then?
You'd think that some script kiddie with a jonesin' to shut us Mac fanboys (and fangirls) up would hack a Mac just to prove he could.
Except nobody has.
Dude, that command-click thing ROCKS.

He sure is making money off of those Goooooooogle ads, though.
And a half an hour later, you're still holding up. Nice work.

Do you honestly think people aren't cracking MS' DRM because it would matter to some Apple fanboys on /.?
I can't see someone who would work to crack DRM giving two shits about what the consequences of the crack is.
You didn't need to get rude about it. I honestly didn't understand and was looking for clarification.
