When you encode VBR 128 in LAME, you are specifing the BASE rate, and it would not be uncommon for a given sample to stay around 220-220kb/s rates. The LAME equivalent of AAC @ 128 is 'lame --preset 128', which sets it in ABR mode instead of VBR mode.
You can also hear the 'pop' on the iPod if you plug in a set of headphones while the iPod is asleep. There is something in the circuitry that powers up when continuity is detected.
The device is just powering the amp down between songs, even if the gap between songs isn't there. I guess there is a threshold that is set too high for sleep on the chipset, and it could be set to 1 second and eliminate the problem.
The media player (Quicktime) is actually a system layer in MacOS and it is more than a media player. The browser isn't bound to the OS, at least not yet. WebCore, on the other hand, likely will be bound to a lot of things as a system service. I don't have a problem with that. I know a few people who have no problem playing back music with MacOS, without iTunes. Personally, I really like iTunes, and I will continue to use it for my music needs.
That, combined with the accursed buy-word, "only" seems to get people in. I bet if you put two prices next to each other, say $395, and ONLY $400, people would pick the $400 for some strange psychological reason.
there were both leads in my last car as well, but after two-three years of owning this player, the radio simply refused to be turned off with ACC. I checked the wires individually, to be certain I wasn't doing something wrong. It's just a fused circut/relay.
I too enjoyed The Longest Journey. It was quite an amazing game. It, however suffered from "lost source syndrome", a disease in which there is a bug in a released game, and the company "lost the source code" to it. See also Ultima 8.
You have just been promoted to a minor deity in my personal pantheon! I can put my OEM Tape/stereo back in and get rid of this stupid CD player that doesn't want to shut off with the car!
And what do you call the default view for media player? It's pretty darn non-standard, with its ugly skins, etc. Wait, how about WinAmp? Or Real? Don't expect standards in 'branded' apps.
And again, I say it doesn't keep me from using the MP3 codecs available to me. One guy gets a C&D, and suddenly NOBODY SHOULD USE THIS IT'S EVIL HOMPH HOMPH.
And there are no patents preventing anyone from using MP3, either. What's your point?
The patents aren't the issue here. If you want a codec that provides excellent quality (which Vorbis does) then use Vorbis where it is supported. But don't say you do it because of patents, because patents aren't stopping you from using the MP3 format.
Power4 chips have 2 processors on die, consume much more power than G4 or 970, and cost an order of magnitude more per chip. Believe me, I work for a company that uses AIX (where most Power4 chips go).
You realise that WMA has serious quality issues, don't you? It consistently scores behind mp3 on tests of audio quality.
OMG you're right! Macs don't have screens!

Except your analogy fails because Namco makes better games than Nintendo. Top-Down Zelda or death!
If you call a transmission cooler 'fashion', then yes.
And it had decent writing, and a lack of a 'skimmer' accident! I was expecting something 'bad'* to happen to the captain.
* 'bad' in quotes because nothing is permanent in Trek, and 'bad' thing resolve in an hour.

Why don't car manufactures make line-input standard???
Because car manufacturers are brain-dead? At least Holden has a clue.
Now I want a Monaro :(

I spend money on songs all the time, but instead of the Apple music store, go to the used CD store, which actually has Astralwerks albums.
New one? it's been like that four years! Wow.

This Porsche and the other Porsche are from the same family, but completely different companies.

Gary Glitter's "Rock & Roll, Part 2"
"Doctorin' the Tardis" by The Timelords / The K.L.F. is a better version :)
Hmmm, didn't apple demo all this technology during last summer's MacWorld event as a preview of iTunes 4?
All they have to do is put in PRAM and run OpenFirmware. Instant proprietary. But, as mentioned above, they'd still be PCI/AGP/FW/USB/ATA/etc.
If they were to port Open Firmware to AMD64, I think they'd be set. It would be open, proprietary and different in one move.

They killed switch and Apoc too, didn't they?
