There's an Apple tax now on their tablets? Dude just say they are more expensive. You sound stupid and an anti-apple fanboi when you call it a tax. Anybody would think you HAD to buy it. I remember when people expected their tablets (before launch) to be $999 as a STARTING price.

Show me a better value 9.7" tablet than the iPad at $499 please.

I think a handful of variations are beneficial for the brain, just like our brains receive benefits from learning a second language. As for taking this to your logical conclusion, then probably no, I think their would be a limitation with time anyway. In everyday life though, we already interact with a handful of layouts/interfaces without much problem so one more couldn't hurt. Maybe I can also learn more keyboard layouts than the average person because I don't drive or play instruments?

At the moment for example I use UK Qwerty and Dvorak layouts on my Mac. UK Qwerty, Spanish and German on my iPad (then my Zaggmate case is a fixed Qwerty keyboard) and then they are repeated on my iPhone but while the layouts don't differ much between iOS devices, spatially they will differ and have to count for something.

Agreed, I was just going to say the same thing because I use Dvorak and Qwerty layouts, but add something else. What's wrong for the brain to learn both layouts?

Microsoft has changed but only because their competition changed. Going from other competitors selling OS'es (Amiga, BeOS, Commodore) with similar business models to Linux and open source (can't undercut free), Google (mostly untouchable through search and internet applications) and Apple stuck to defining their own thing which nobody has the patience to emulate.
This means MS don't have the same grip on the industry anymore, they use to say MS WAS the industry in the 90's. Now they have to actually do some work against forces that are not pissing around. They are still evil but they aren't the only evil ones any more: in terms of Sci-fi they went from being Emperor Palpatine status to just being the equal of the Klingons, still a bunch of bastards but they are playing fairer now.
