The killer hardware FOR Linux may be be the Sony Playstation 3 which is supported by Linux, as was announced a few weeks ago and a few days after the Apple move to Intel.
My guess is that Apple was upset by the ppc producers' support of Linux and that that was a main motivation, perhaps even greater than the alleged roadmap issues.
If ppc producers can sell ten times more CPUs through Playstation 3s (and Microsoft's XBox 360, IIRC) than than only through Apple labeled goods, why not?
A friend of mine has a project in *****. Now it turned out that one of the more ambitious students of one of the collaborators there had copied several chunks of my friend's published text, verbatim. No changes, at all... and published it in an even higher impact journal than my friend had. My friend, co-authors, and publishing company are taking actions, right now.
Copying and republishing large chunks of text should be included in that list. Or, was it an obvious too dumb to seem possibly true?!

What happens with deceased people's code? Will I inherit granny's 200,000 lines of code? What do I do then? Will GPL 3 address that?
I have used Systran for automatic translation of half a million web-pages from English-Swedish-English. It is a piece of crap as of today, producing non-indsfolloble f***wqx glfttbberish.
Put Norwegian into that system, yes, and it would be even worse. Yet, phonetically the high forms of Norwegian and Swedish are more similar than Cockney and Texan.
If I'm not totally incorrect we may see 64-bit GPUs in the next few years (2007?). IIRC, there was some remark from some ATI/nVidia guy somehere. Perhaps it was relating to the upcoming Unreal 3 technology, I really don't remember. Or, was it 128-bit colours? Hrrrmmm...
It's old news...
I tested it two days ago, but the service is not good enough for my use.
First, and above all, it does not give you coordinates.
Second, Map24 is more complete and more detailed.
If you go for the mass market, choose a Photoshop-like GUI. If you want to retain a uniquness, stay with GIMP.
I have never used Photoshop, and am very satisfied with the current GUI of GIMP. Still, one has to accept that a lot of potential users are scared off because of it.
Look at how Microsoft upgrade their software's GUI:s, minimally! They know how to make people _feel_ safe; yada-yada-BSOD-yada-crash-yada...
So, despite people's feelings for GIMP's current GUI, get over it and go for a Photoshop look-alike.
If not for anything else it may also give you some tips for 'missing' functionalities!

The article explains a lot, but fails in testing
Yellow Dog Lingux (for ppc).
"it is their kinship with birds" Funny usage, as the birds are dinosaurs. Just as rodents are mammals.
Agreed, but check out the free Streaming Video of the game Killzone 2. Also, Tim Sweeney said about some upcoming console vs pc:
"Well, the PC is a more scalable platform, so it'll run on $500 PCs and it'll scale down to the Xbox 360 ".
I had a costume; I wore a black suit when I saw S.W.E.III.

Where "Støtter" means "stöder" (or "stödjer") or "supports" in more widespread languages. ;)
Didn't HP have a contract with Mandriva, at least back when they were still named Mandrake?
and misspell his name...
Apparently, he is quite oblivious of the SCO threat. Or, he doesn't quite believe in their arguments? Wonder which?
"I have no idea why the folks at Sun think that Fortran is their competitor."
Maybe because of the inroads from free (GPL) compilers such as G95 and gfortran. Remember, SUN like open source when it suits them.
Ok, so that site uses a password?!
So, why not give them a Slashdot effect of wishful beggings? Everybody, type out loud: WE WANT OPTERONS (or something to that effect).
Is it all that obvious? I counted Linus saying obvious or obviously 11 times! To me it isn't.
IIRC, the bus widths are today 64, 128, or even 256-bits. But, the graphics still remain 32-bits.

The official Fortran 2003 standard was published on Nov 18 2004. It is ISO/IEC 1539-1:2004. Read more here.
Monte Carlo simulations w Bayesian Stats may explore very large otherwise intractable parameter spaces. Perhaps an alternative path?
It depends, as always.
