Then I have to be a really bad programmer, because I disagree.

I see programming more like technical drawing than to artistic drawing. It can be learned if there's will. You have something that describes acuratelly the final result, you have some tools and you have the knowledge about how to use them. You can make mistakes, but there's nothing that is totally upon a talent.

If you are exceptionally talented perhaps you'll make a better job with even worse tools. If you didn't have a good enough training perhaps you'll need some extra sheets to achieve an acceptable result, or it will look kludgy.

On the other hand there's the analisis part, which is the really hard part about programming. Whith this you have to have knowledge, you have to understand what the user wants (not what he says), have some idea about GUI design, choosing the best tool for the job, ... and several other characteristics that make a good analist a talented person, akin to an artistic painter.

But here we are talking about programming, and programming per se is not that hard. Once you know what has to be done is it that hard? If it is then quit... now.

But it won't be because she doesn't have "The Gift", simply will be because she cannot grasp the concepts or those are not well explained to (and for) her.

There's nothing magic in any activity. You can learn to play basketball, perhaps you'll be not like Jordan, but if you train you'll beat your friends that don't. Easier said than done, but equally true.

I've read from several others that most spam is generated from hijacked boxes, so this would not stop them. But there's also some other considerations. What about companies. How much would they have to pay? And internal mail would be free? A employee would have to pay for his/her personal e-mail? And for external e-mail but work-related?

We buy the computer, we pay the phone bill, we pay the bandwith, now you say that we have to pay more for sending information in a certain way? What about free e-mail servers? It'll be their end, or you'll have to pay for them, and if you already pay you'll have to pay more just to do the same as before.

So the transition from the actual e-mail system to the Ie-mail ("Improved" e-mail) would be as fluid as the transition from IPv4 to IPv6. Simply because most people (me included) do not want to pay.

Please note that the 3rd generation iPods may have improved on this but I've seen no mention of it and I'm pretty sure that even the newest iPods do not remove the silence caused by the MP3 encoder even if they have reduced or eliminated the silence added by the iPod itself. Either way, Apple have been ignoring the issue in the face of regular complaints from a reasonable number of people, as have most other makers of portable MP3 players, with a handful of exceptions.

    Emphasis mine.

MP3 players are more for the convenience of not having to bring ejectables (CDs, cassetes) just to listen to different kinds of music. Appart from that you can buy several kind of players depending on your needs.

    Style - Ipod

    Space - Creative

Why do I say Rio is for listening music while not the rest? I don't know for Iriver and Creative (or other brand) players, but Ipod are just stylish and lack gapless playback, and fall behind in the battery lasting time comparision.

Why is important gapless playback? this web will explain it better than me.

O yes, lets kill all the languages, keep one, whichever, doesn't matter. Because everything can be explained in every language. It doesn't matter that eskimo has tenths of words that essentially mean snow, but are applied to different types of snow.

Languages were grown to suit best the needs of their speakers, if we lose one language we lose a little bit of history, things that we'll never discover again. If you are one of those who think ancient discoveries aren't worth it think about all the wonder drugs extracted from the amazonian fruits. Possibly a shaman knew about some of them, but nobody asked, or nobody could.

If a plant name's aproximate translation would be "remove big ugly nasty thing in body" it's because of something.

Now about imposing. If I went to America I would have to learn english (not that it would be hard now). If you come to Spain you'll have to learn spanish. And if you came to Catalonia it would be nice if you at least learned to understand catalan. I don't mind if you speak or not. But letting me speak my language in my land while you are a resident in it would be fair.

I'm sick of all the people defending the extermination of cultures, because that is what you're doing. If you don't want to help them don't do it, but don't hinder them.

About the Difference Engine... isn't that a fiction work by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling? And if I recall it correctly the diference engine was never built because it was not possible with the tecnology at that time.

But that doesn't mean Ada could not program. There are already some quantic computer's program, but there is no quantic computer build yet. The chicken has come before the egg.

You are right in saying that if you want to make Half-Life 2 episodic perhaps it won't be worthwhile because all the engine work will have to be there for the first episode.

This should show us that episodic gaming will be based (if it apears) on an already (then) existing engine. In this way first episode can be given for free and the rest for 10 (or 5) a piece.

Games could be make to mimic those old books like the "Lone Wolf" series and its equivalents. Or they could be make to try to milk a fad, like a Yu-Gi-Oh on which you could play some chapters and affect the storyline.

I don't believe in the persistent MMO mith, being that I played everquest and quit in the first month. Not everyone wants to play each week. I feel episodic gamic like the Magnamund series will atract other kind of public that would not fall for the MMO.

But like allways, ideas are easy and thousand a dime, the difficult part is the implementation.

The truth is that (most) games are made for the people with two hands, not completely deaf and without any visual disability to discern objects in the screen. When (read if) 3d displays become the norm people with less than two eyes will have also problems with most games. And the same will happen for people with only one good ear when surround sound is important for a game.

There are games that can be played by almost anyone with some little tweaks, but it would be non-optimum for the sofware companies, unless the game is a complete hit or was designed that way from the beggining.
