I turned off my 831 last month. It has been replaced with an old PC running Vyatta. For IPv6 I have a tunnel to Hurricane Electric, he.net. So we have native IPv6 at the cost of a bit more electric power needed to run the PC/Router.
This Internet ID scheme has been floated a couple of times now and it is not going to happen. The Federal Government like big companies and big programs aka Comcast/NBC, Net Control(net neutrality) and National Healthcare. It is about controlling the most people with the least effort. This is no different than requiring me to 'show my papers.' All of this really needs to stop.
--If the feds need something to do they could start by implementing IPv6 and getting everyone an IP address.
Boy I like the idea of the free flying but pilots are required. I see things going the way of the Predator. There will be flight crews, at the airport, that strictly handle take off and landings. There will be a pilot on board for safety of the pax. Cargo should go this way first.
We have used Eventum for the past two years. Lots of nice features. Users email the helpdesk and it automatically creates issues. Also works great for projects.

Quantum is synonomous with failure. In six raid5 arrays all of the Quantums failed over three years. This was not a fluke in purchasing or a one time production problem. There were two Quantums in each array and the others are IBM. All of the Quantums failed...the last one in December. If you use Quantum watch the log files closely.
My god. People like you really exist? Thats interesting, I thought it was just a myth that people who were willing to let the government run their life existed. I guess not.
Yes all of the above is true. Crime and traffic accidents take a huge toll on the masses. But; when was the last time that a traffic accident shut down all of the air traffic in North America?
I have worked inside hundreds of data centers and have designed a few EPO systems and have never ever had a case of and EPO button press being used to save a life. NFPA really needs to look at this again and decide how easily a facilities power can be turned off in an emergency. Only a lot of negitive feedback will make that happen. Geez, even power distribution panels have key locks to prevent tampering.
Anyhow; I have seen EPO activations ranging from the malicious to a simple slam of the door and never once has it saved a life. So what? if a monitor smokes.
Until then: Place the redundant part of your system in a seperate room, building, or country.
All the points that Frank made are correct: so keep a hardwired phone connected to the telco; even after turning off the service with them, so that you can make those 911 calls when TSHTF.
Federal Law requires the telcos to provide dial tone and
911 service even if the customer is not a customer i.e. not paying. Any phone that has dial tone does have 911 access.
So turn off the telco and make use of that bandwidth.
Also I should add a disclaimer. There are licenses needed for this kind of work (at least in my area), specifically a low voltage contractor's license. You can obtain one with some studying and 1 test. Furthermore, to get into telephone rooms to run feeder to office suites, most building owners/maintenance will want to see a million-dollar liability insurance or something similar - in case you yank somebody's T1 down there or something.
Excellent point but insurance applies when you work anywere in the building, not just specific rooms. You need to have $1M general liability to protect you and the owner in case you burn the place to the ground. I pay $550/yr via National Lloyds.

I install ten or more cable modems a week and have the above burned on a CD since 75% of machines are un-useably slow. Once in a while I load Mozilla to stop those perpetually clueless' from hosing the machine before I get out of the driveway.
All the family gets NATed firewalls and broadband when they ask me for support. I install remote desktop or VNC for support via VPN. Since nothing is 'F'ree I always get something in exchange. Most recently my brother helped me during a busy week. Final advice consists of "do not use IE or Outlook except in case of emergency."

Thanks for the feedback. BTW I have always liked the .cx domain for some reason.

Guess again. Those people are called Democrats.

There is a PC emulator for M.U.L.E.
zone "falkag.net" { type master; file "dummy-block"; };

That said...
I moved to NC, near Duke University, for work and to get treatment. I recommend the Duke health system as the best in the world.
