    You'd think if you were buying some devices claiming to detect something-or-other, you would try out a specimen and see if it works. Did all of these countries he sold them to fail to do any testing on whether they worked?

    You see they are not using them right. They are trying to detect 'real bombs', when clearly this is a 'fake bomb' detector!

    If ICANN were actually managing this crap sanely it wouldn't be that hard to share. No reason that conservation.amazon and shopping.amazon couldn't both exist under different ownership.

    Exactly! No one should own a top level domain. Imagine if the internet started that way and one company bought the entire .com TLD. This is exactly what we are seeing now.

    Amazon probably wants the .amazon tld to protect the "intellectual property" of their name..

    Yes, I'm sure they do. And there's nothing wrong with that. But an easier way to do it is simpley don't create a TLD of .amazon. Problem solved.

    That's no solution at all - ICANN dosen't get its big fat cheque!

    It seems to be smaller than you imagine. From a recent article at Ars about AMD: "Game consoles are a relative drop in the bucket compared even to the dwindling PC market (Microsoft has sold a little over 70 million Xbox 360s since 2005, and the PC market can generally meet or beat that number in a single quarter)"

    4 it's an unkucky number in Japan. 17 it's also an ulucky number in Western countries. Coincidence? we at TV-Show-On-Whacky-Therories don't think so.

    According to the Wikipedia entry for 17:

    Described at MIT as 'the least random number', according to hackers' lore.

    In Italian culture, the number 17 is considered unlucky.

    When viewed as the Roman numeral, XVII, it is then changed anagrammatically to VIXI, which in the Latin language it translates to "I have lived", the perfect implying "My life is over.

    The fear of the number 17 is called 'heptadecaphobia' or 'heptakaidekaphobia'.

    Microsoft loses nothing because they are collecting for these patents.

    Not only that! They could potentially be collecting twice for the same device. Say HTC/Motorola/Samsung gets Foxonn to manufacture the phone, both companies potentially get to pay Microsoft.

    This is a little different though. They were tracking the device before, but now if you change phones withhout your carrier's knowledge your usage on the new device still identifies you as an individual.
