Seismic imaging. Imagine solving a wave equation (acoustic, elastic, or worse) over a 3D grid many kilometers on a side with grid spacing on the order of meters. Imagine you're doing it with a strong high-order finite-difference code. Calculate for tens of thousands of timesteps. Now repeat that entire thing thousands of times for a given full survey.
No matter how much computer you have, it's never nearly enough for seismic imaging.
Exactly right! Geophysics (and particular oil & gas) was one of the primary driving forces around supercomputer design, and computing in general. As an aside: Many of you are probably not aware, but TI started out a geophysical instrument manufacturer.
Can you? One of the reasons the original XBox was pulled off the market as soon as the 360 came out (and no slim was ever made) was because nVidia reportedly refused to do a die shrink or combine dies, etc. So MS was left with a big, hot, expensive chip while Sony was able to shrink theirs and lower their costs dramatically.
MS might still hold a grudge on that one.
No sane business holds grudges like that. If MS wants it, it'll be written into the next contract and either nVidia will agree or not get the contract.
I was blue and lonely, I couldn't sleep a wink
And I could only get unconscious if I'd had to much to drink
There was somehow, something wrong somewhere
And each day seemed grey and dead
The seeds of desperation were growing in my head
I needed inspiration, a brand new start in life
Somewhere to place affection, but I didn't want a wife
And then by lucky chance I saw in a special magazine
An ad that was unusual, the like I'd never seen
"Experience something different with our new imported toy
She's loving, warm, inflatible and a guarantee of joy."
She came all wrapped in cardboard, all pink and shrivelled down
A breath of air was all she needed to make her lose that frown
I took her to the bedroom and pumped her with some life
And later in a moment that girl became my wife
And so I sit her in the corner and sometimes stroke her hair
And when I'm feeling naughty I blow her up with air
She's cuddly and she's bouncy, she's like a rubber ball
I bounce her in the kitchen and I bounce her in the hall
And now my life is different since Sally came my way
I wake up in the morning and have her on a tray
She's everything they say she was and I wear a permanent grin
And I only have to worry in case my girl wears thin
the people running the show thought "let's market on facebook yeah!"
and then they hired some fucktard that ruined their campaign.
Actually I think the idea is dumb. Political ideas are very divided, you're either for these guys or the oposing party. Since people are more likely to relate negative opinions than positive ones, you can only expect negative public comments to outnumber positive ones - there's no way this could come across as a positive endorsement.

But how does that fit with the fact that Denmarks largest wind farm, the Anholt sea based wind farm, has a generating capacity of 400 MW and it only covers 88 square kilometres?
Except it's not finished yet (aiming for the end of 2013 it looks like), and 400 MW is listed as the theoritical maximum power rating - it remains to be seen how much it will actally produce.
Interestingly, not so long ago I read about evolution in humans, and how that is actually speeding up currently.
And that makes total sense to me, considering the huge changes we made to our environment over the past couple hundred years. Urbanisation, industrialisation - it requires different skills than farming.
I've heard the opposite argued. We evolved to adapt to our environment, but now we mostly modify our environment to suit us. Therefore, we have slowed down evolution.
... but there does need to be some actual evidence beyond "I have your IP address, therefore it was you" stuff they do now. They've been trending too much to the point where they can claim anything with no real evidence, and the courts follow along.
The only way I can think of to tie an IP address download to an individual would be to look at the hard drive of the computer to determine if the file was ever there.
And how do you tie the user to the computer? Many computers are used by more than one person.

So what you're saying is that it's really the 19.9808548034th anniversary?
Yeah, I wonder how many times we'll see that joke here. Probably at leat 19.9808548034 times.
Some sea slats are iodized as well.

Oh wait, you said ineffable!

That's what everyone is doing!
Did you see Amazon yanked it because it received so many bad reviews?
What??? No, I didn't hear that! Where can I learn more about it?! Maybe I'll head over to Slashdot and see if they have a post about it!
Oh yeah it's true! Here's a link: link
Don't.
Have her buy something from Best Buy or wherever, and direct her to ask them for support.
Seriously, why do you want to be her 24/7 tech support? DON'T DO IT!
I was going to suggest the same, but then I thought 'he might actually like his mother'.
Using TeamViewer helped this immeasurably. Free for personal use.
Even remote desktop connection will work fine in most instances. It's built into Windows XP and newer versions.

Obviously you've never packed a moving truck.
Yeah, but don't you hate when you get it perfectly packed, and all your stuff disappears! That's annoying.

Just make sure to buy all Monster Cables and buy the extended warranty.

I've upped my standards. Up yours.
My what now?
I'm afraid there's plenty of support for that plan...
Yeah reminds me of the Simpsons. Now, let's burn down the observatory so this never happens again!
