But this is exactly what makes it hard to abuse. With oddly-moralized hackers up in arms, you can bet they'll seize on any abuses of the filter and plaster them embarresingly over the internet. So the government has a strong incentive to stick within their declared uses of the filter.
So the worst objection to the filter is simply that it could mostly be a waste of time... that said, it will evolve and change and may prove useful.
You don't want to wait that happen. Eventually the government will become having a face so thick that they just outright lying to the citizens. China has already set the example, and I surely you don't follow the shit.
http://news.mylegist.com/1604/2010-03-01/21338.html Two months ago, another man died while being detained. This time the reason given were he drank too much water - despite that there was a hole in the head, nipple and gential showed signs of abuse.
I am picking the two most obvious and well-known cases, there are many more unbelievable cases like that happening frequently. Although for both cases, the department in a higher hierarchy later came up and clarify the truth. But nevertheless, IMHO they crossed the line. Yet the Chinese couldn't really do anything besides chatting about it on the net. There is no way to replace the official, the government or the party without bleeding.
Going back to Australia and the other countries, you don't want to let your country to step out the first step - please defense your rights. The "think of the children" is pointless, the child molester will find their way to get the actionable material no matter what, you think a filter or two will stop them? They are driven by the sexual desire and nothing can stop that - human is just another animal. Nor the filter could cure them either. Just like lock can only keep honest people honest - Internet filter in the national sense could only make your Internet experience more trouble, not those child molesters.
Once the government wins this, they will take a even more aggressive step and when you finally find out it's outright unacceptable - it will be too late - and welcome to join the Chinese.
Exercise your right while you still have it, and please protect it, treasure it.
Disclaimer: I'm a Hongkonger, but living in Shanghai.
And is it so hard to realize? Motel usually provides you microwave oven, cheap & good breakfast and whatever kind of home appliances that make you feel like home. 5-star hotels - they charge you for every shit.
It has always been the case. Internet access and Wifi is no exception.
It's PCCW. What I have heard is they are hijacking NXDOMAIN, but not sure about redirecting the location bar. Maybe Firefox will try to lookup for domain for single name hostname, hence giving an impression that it redirects if your "search term" is just one word.
Oh, he knows its an environmental negative. But he is bound by law to do the most he can to improve sales and shareholder value, regardless of the environmental cost, social need or greater economic benefit.
And this is why capitalism* has failed.

Talking with Games, I think Blizzard's Warcraft III are on the par. It was released in 2002, and they still made patch a month ago, the online Battle.Net server still works and active. And I am still playing DotA there!
Luckily that they removed the CD Check since one of the patch. I bet my CD isn't working but now I don't have cares, I have an ISO copy of that.
At least it's clean, everyone got uniform, even a cap. Mechanical transportation belt. I think it might even be air conditioned.
0.65 (wage/hr) * 16 (hrs) * 26 (days) translates to CNY 2000 a month.
As a matter of fact - the average undergraduate student earns only CNY 4000 in Shanghai. (Granted - ones from top tier college could earn more)
And if you stay in the village, maybe you just earn CNY 2000 a YEAR! Still you need to work 16 hours a day. (Unlike US where China does not have agricultural subsidiary I guess)
I would say, electronics assembling is quite a decent job - compare to farming!
Hey! Why would you ever turn on TV, change channels and volume? The TV mind-controls you to control it. Give you the illusion of you are controlling it and everything, but we all know it's a trap!!
Well, instead of HD, the MPAA should push for a 1920000*1080000 standard so it will be so large that it's not feasible to download from the line. How they are going to distributed it on disc media is a homework left for the reader.
Accept the fact MPAA! Newspaper didn't die because of the Internet, they just adopt and changes and now I see some newspaper are making money by providing access to the archive, or other link and analysis functions which is not possible with the deadwood media. I believe you can do something more creative than suing people.
I have been a participant of a similar event in my local city back in my high school (like 8 years ago). I tell you what it should be like. The competition included everything from screwing motherboard to the case, then CPU, heatsink, fan and all the tightening up all screws. And all component from Fan to PSU to HDD has to be fixed by screws, it wasn't a slide in design. The timer stops when POST is passed will a check with all the components position and make sure they are properly fixed by screws. Like you can't pass with a FDD up side down.
Adding to that, it's done in a team of 3. So optimizing who do what and get the shortest time is an added challenge. You know you can't put HDD first before mobo because of those cheap chassis. Then CPU and heatsink must be done on a flat surface before putting it in the chassis, etc.
They forgot that malware code can reside inside another process and it's memory space, in which case comparing and writing random bytes to free RAM is a moot point.
So you mean his idea can only deal with "Computer Germs" but not "Computer Virus?"
As someone who uses dvorak, it's a great deterrent to people who frequently need to borrow other keyboards for a moment...
Not to mention the amusement of watching them type something, look confused, repeat a few times before they say something.
So do I. In addition, I also have CTRL and CAPS LOCK swapped (which makes a lot of sense when you copy and paste code a lot, ctrl is way lot more useful. Oh, don't tell my boss I just do copy and paste). Plus, I also do Chinese typing but again not using the mainstream IME, 3 things together creates lot of confusion to the others and that's really fun to watch.
In terms of speed, I don't know about that, but dvorak does leave me a bit more comfy as I leave the home row less.
Agree. Especially you know the fingers are really home-sick.
Though, I don't think I have lost any QWERTY speed. I could still do QWERTY well at the speed before I am converted.
If they don’t have to be converted to electricity first, then where are the electronics in this?
A better name is “photonics”.:)
Well that until your computer is totally processed in light, including CPU, motherboard, display card and network interface. I would agree the future AC transformer be an giant LED light blub, then all component inside are light path...to the extend that the light is processed and redirected to the monitor panel directly and a lighting pixel. That's would be very awesome, yet I don't see it coming very soon though:P. Hence we will still stick with electronics somewhere for a while.
I start to thinking he is betting $100 with someone that...arguing that this is not technically possible. The other one insist the other way and will only give up when even Slashdot crowd can't solve such questions.
I hope he get his $100, and share with us if possible.

In 2009, a 24yo Man died while being detained. In the press release, official stated that the suspect died from head trauma by hitting the wall when playing hide-and-seek.

Maybe he should relief from his position...

Do I get paid working for the kernel? How do I get company backing me up? I am interested, but I still need a job have to pay for the bills and pizza!
We all watched that right?
At least it's clean, everyone got uniform, even a cap. Mechanical transportation belt. I think it might even be air conditioned.

In my opinion saying they "only" make 66 cent an hour means nothing without a reference. How much can you buy with 66 cent in China?
A lunch - a bowl of noodle and a bun. (I live in Shanghai)
Hey! Why would you ever turn on TV, change channels and volume?
The TV mind-controls you to control it. Give you the illusion of you are controlling it and everything, but we all know it's a trap!!
Bullshit.
Piracy costs nothing, the kids that do this were not going to buy those movies or games either way.
But wait! If the kid found out the movie is crappy, it might prevent their moms, friends or relatives going to the cinema/buying DVD!
man, the parent should be mod up as funny.
that is if you move you'd expect to be able to see around one object blocking your view of another. but that does not happen with this kind of 3D.
Apparently, Nintendo has done this...and it's available today in NDS!
Please see this game: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/dsiware/krgj/index.html
The 3D environment move when you look around the NDS screen. I think it's done by some image recognition with the front facing camera.
It gets especially silly when they want to arrest someone for looking at cartoon porn - who is the victim?
MAFIAA of course. They would surely claims the rights of the usage of Bart Simpson, with clothes or without.

BTW, could someone tell me if this is the first time that a Chinese official officially admit they are blocking and censoring the Internet?
I mean, I know everyone, in or out of China, know they are censoring. But I don't recall they ever admit it publicly from the mouth of any minister.
It will be interesting to see how they unify the UI for running multiple apps at once without compromising the usability of the device.
While the foreground app will run on the front side screen, shouldn't I expect background tasks running on the screen on the backside??
+5 funny.
You know what, that's the same thing I did for getting over the Great Firewall of China with a server outside of the mainland.
Especially useful when you need to work with colleagues who are in the opposite of the world and who work 9-5.
I do Dvorak too, for 7+ years.
