How the narus box works is the least of your worries if your traffic crosses one of these world class privacy violation enabling tools.
read the details of the EFF v AT&T case to see more on how Narus is helping big brothers everywhere.
I cant see why i would want this kind of device on my network. If i want control, ill simply lock it down more. the only conceivable uses seem to be of the invasive "we bill you more" and "we want to know what your saying" kind of thing... scaryiest is the fact these boxes keep records of the traffic crossing them & the analysis of the traffic as well.
it creates resentment and loathing for your fellow people and that drives you to want to be better than them by any means necessary... dont mistake subsets of the results for the root cause.
the entreprenures didnt just grow up always wanting to make money, they were taught to crave it, got smart and started to think how to make it as best they can. the innovators grow up neglected seeking attention and striving for anything to earn themselves it.
Or you could not be a dick and realise it would be much better to reduce the deficit by cutting back into the biggest uses of goverment spending as they are the ones more likely to yeild larger fiscal gains from reassesment.
Id like the choise of being able to pay ATI that extra 300 for a copy of windows that i have to pay to play games on... and getting a Much nicer graphics card... but cause of the general concensus linux isnt for gaming and the associated self perpetuating problems of this... ill be stuck paying the microsoft gaming tax for a while yet... no matter how good gaming gets on linux i still need a backup copy of winblows for the games that are so thick to not work any other way
Please check the relevant timeframes for the total sales of the other consoles... a console that gets sold dirt cheap for years after the competition is dead (the cheapo ps units going in everything from kiddies lunchboxes to cars with mini lcd things ) of course it will sell more.
i demand you adjust your figures immediatly providing the sales data for the ps2 that corresponds to the same timeframe as the other 2 consoles shared time period (since the saturn didnt last as long as the N64)
forced to use a particular os for an app not available on another one. sounds to me a lot more like coercion than addiction.
Addiction would be if they cant give up using the OS because it has some trifling little feature no other has... like say mac os x's Expose than i most sinceearly wish to have on every machine i touch *sigh*
just like i have 98 laying round, i mean id rather do something usefull with them as opposed to just make 50 extra accounts from redirects to email aliases at my domain and use the gspace plugin to store all my photos lol
then find someone selling a gmail account for like $1 and give him a dollar... ive seen them as low as $0.01 dollars lol so dont go saying you cant afford to just BUY an invite
while the above post was anonymous and probably not seen by many. it asked if there was a way to run this on a more local/lite deployment. i dont know myself, ive already got a tomcat box lying round for testing so it wasnt hard for me. But if you dont have a servlet container available. theres a few non tomcat options
enjoy it while you can, jack Thompson is after that game as well now...
seriously... id laugh if i heard he was hit buy a truck full of videogames or if vidoegames were in any way remotely related to the circumstances of his eventual demise.
SATA 2 with all the fancy NCQ extras can well and truly saturate the bus when you use a controler with raid ( and thats why the realy good cards are 4x PCI-e )
while you could get 2 gigabit ethernet controlers onto a single PCI-e lane, thats probably just another bonus for anyone doing it, since not only do you have the lower latency pci-e bus, you also have the ability to play all the kinds of fancy games that need at least 2 controlers, such as utilising the second for priority/QoS without interfering with the flow, dedicated unidirectional flow / trunking arangements to routers, and others i cant be bothered listing. the real advantage is that stuff like 10Gbps networking cards can start to enter the market a bit more.
and while PhysX may not need all the bandwidth, it does however need a FAST connection, with low latency, so just as gfx cards are capable of directly communicating with eachother over the PCI-e bus, the PhysX card would benifit from having direct access to the gfx memory to read and update object data, as well as significantly improving the round trip latency involved, and just in general improving the efficiency of the design enough that its likely to go a lot farther than it would otherwise. I consider the lack of PCI-e / direct memory to be a major hurdle to the maximum theoretical performance of these ideae. scalable architecture & code are great, but without lower latency (at the minimum) and direct memory reads (safe) and direct memory writes (not as safe but not massively dangerous/difficult, just very touchy) the entire thing will be held back, and not as good as it could truly be.
id like a high speed risc soloution to offload ultra branchy non floating point code to... hrm that sounds a lot like AI dont it... hrm... wonder if sun will make a niagra HT socket module to do this sort of stuff for their opteron servers.... that would rock.
i want a board with a full compliment of 7 (ATX form factor) full size PCI-e slots, they dont ALL have to be able to do 16x... it would be nice to hope for, but id be happy with mac style "any pci-e card in this slot" universal slots for the damn things, so i can stop having to screw around with "oh damn that fantastic board has its 4x pci-e wedged under the heatsink of the sli card in the 16x slot... no 8 drive sata raid controler, damn there goes the 2TB raid... stuff like this i actualy think about when picking a motherboard... and this mixed PCI-e and PCI enviroment is pissing me off.
as for NICs and SATA cards... well SATA can do 300MBs EASILY before you start using serious stuff like 8 drive striped raid. and people buying NICs these days are looking for stuff like dedicated equipment gigabit stuff, that likely already attempts to use more than 250MBs (or wishes it could). advantages are in things like sound cards, which no longer clog up a shared bus over PCI. and for any form of IO that can benifit from low latency DMA with plenty of bandwidth (read 90% of stuff)
Hell when i first read the specs on the PhysX... i was litterly shocked... checking for typos, and wondering what the hell happened. it was on a PCI not a PCI-e, realy i just dont see why the hell it was done this way aside from the possibility they were either unable to get a pci-e soloution together stable enough yet, or, didnt want to alienate non pci-e users or those with those retarded motherboards that like to block the smaller PCI-e slots by putting them in where theyre "heatsink space" for your pci-e 16x cards.
these are the kind of one among billions of others apps that are actualy difficult enough to find via pirate methods, and often cheap enough that, like Itunes, doing the right thing is simple and easy, so you do it. pay your 99c and its yours legaly and nearly instantly. or with these programs, pay $10 or $15 now, and get rid of that nag screen on your shareware version, cause you used and appreciate the software. If it were open source, much lower donation/payment rate.
update ... triped over the article with the screenshots

im pretty sure one of the other articles i swa on this had a screenshot... cant for the live of me find it ... wasnt on a site i regularly visit.

destroy it before it took over the universe...
unlimited power would require some form of mechanism to gather (potentialy) unlimited energy from the universe.
clearly your genius isnt in your grasp of modesty.
i can... find phone owner... pump them for the login... or pulp them if you want ... either way you get the info fast.

its a sad world

thats all well and good but it doesnt invalidate the precedences and everything else set during his term... that may never be undone...
wow... 4 applicants to each of the positions... well why didnt i hear sooner... i should have applied ... Whats the pay like ?
10-20% (always half your job odds, no one likes you) is pretty good odds for getting a job

http://servlets.com/engines/#embeddable has a list of quite a few. and from the list
http://jetty.mortbay.com/jetty/index.html seems to be the best candidate. (though it quotes no resource figures)
the opensolaris code browser is built off a bunch of open source stuff.
OpenGrok
its incredibly easy to use, and makes things very easy to read. and is now packaged for your enjoyment.
and available at http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/opengrok/
enjoy it while you can, jack Thompson is after that game as well now...
