Agreed. When the earthquake in Mineral, Virginia hit, I was standing with a group of about a hundred people outside. Very few were getting voice through, but text worked fine. It also didn't seem to matter who's network you were on.
Ah, where's the "Naive" moderation when I need it?
Yes, some things go stale, and many come back for seconds years later. I'm 54, and have watched numerous movies from before my birth. My daughter (22), has watched tons of movies from before her time. She's recently discovered Sinatra (I was never a fan myself), and loves it. So, just because you don't want it, does not indicate that your offspring won't. Tastes change, styles come and go....one size doesn't fit all.
So, is this any different that the govt. wanting to tax your parking space at work? Not that I agree with it, but the concept seems the same...it's subsidized by your company, so you don't have to park on the street (maybe avoiding meters).
That may work for you, but my brother-in-law is an accident waiting to happen. He's lost his job, his wife and kids, and his driver's license a couple of times. He still drive's drunk regularly, and there's nothing we can do until he has an accident. We've tried several times to get him to go to rehab, and he'll either no go, or go and leave early. We can't force him into any program, and the law can't do anything unless he's actually caught in a DUI, but then that's just a catch & release the next day. I won't be surprised if he ends up killing someone, and there's nothing we can do to stop him. I'm not a fan of government forcing things on people, but where do you draw the line?
Did I miss the part where someone said anything about "survival tactics". My response was to your nonsensical comment regarding practicing with paintballs. Why go off on a rant about survival tactics? As for the real thing, that can be hunting, when you come across prey, or home defense...I want to hit my target if I make the decision to pull the trigger. I don't actively hunt anymore, but did so many times years ago.
As for your last sentence...again, nobody said anything about that, and even if they did, who the fuck are you to judge their reason for doing so?
"Rage-boner"? Really? Your post has zero to do with the real world. Put the video games away, go out and learn something. Better yet, move to Detroit, and tell us again that you need to be important for someone to break in and steal your shit, or threaten your life.
I hope this is your idea of sarcasm, but just in case you're serious, the answer is: plenty.
Paintballs don't fire the same as bullets. The primary reason to practice is so you'll react the same if/when the real thing happens. Paintballs don't have any kind of accuracy when compared to more serious weaponry.
Not trying to be a dick, only pointing out that your statement about it being evidence-based isn't necessarily correct.
From Wikipedia: The opposite of truth is falsehood, which, correspondingly, can also take on a logical, factual, or ethical meaning. The concept of truth is discussed and debated in several contexts, including philosophy and religion. Many human activities depend upon the concept, which is assumed rather than a subject of discussion, including science, law, and everyday life.
Just FWIW, I'm not exactly a religious person, but I do believe in tolerance of others beliefs, as long as their non-interfering...don't try to impose your beliefs upon me or others.
For the sake of discussion let's compare NK with Afghanistan. Both very mountainous, but NK has a standing army of around one million, and is much better armed. The Russians (USSR) and Americans have both tried to pacify Afghanistan, and not been exactly successful at it. South Korea doesn't possess the military might anywhere near that of those armies, so I'm calling BS on your assertion that NK would be smashed.
FWIW, I'm coloring my opinion with my experience of living in SK for six years, and the fact that there have been numerous border skirmishes over the years since the end of all out fighting.
You lost me at "Pointing out...". That varies based upon your beliefs of what the truth is. I'm not trying to do a Bill Clinton here ("what is is"), only pointing out that truth can be in the eye of the beholder. Those billions of people who believe in religion, would say your truth is not theirs.
BTW, which Gods where you speaking of in your signature....rhetorical question.
I feel a bit guilty at giving her a hand-me-down, but it still looks and works good as new.
Just my $.02: Don't feel guilty. Unless they're paying for it with money they earned, they shouldn't be given new expensive toys. They need to learn the value of them, and working for what they get instead of expecting the latest fashion.
Agree with the parent & grandparent, and I'll offer one alternative. I was never able to study while listening to my favorite type of music (rock), but listening to classical (not the 1812 Overture, or Ride of the Valkyries...only the more mellow type), would block out other sounds, and not distract me.
This depends upon what you call competitive. If your competition is only within your borders, then you have a level playing field. When you go global, you're suddenly competing with people who don't have the same overhead, standards of living, taxes, etc., etc. So, the question for all nations to answer is if they're willing to forsake jobs for their own people, increasing unemployment, though benefiting corporations, by lowering their costs, but also driving down salaries for those still employed within their borders. It's an issue that should be agreed to at a national level.
You've apparently failed at reading comprehension:
Sigh, and you've apparently passed training at being a jackass.
If you'd read the link, you would have noticed that it also stated: Scientific studies have suggested that regions involved in speech and language are smaller, while regions involved with numerical and spatial processing are larger. This directly contradicts your statement, not regarding overall brain size, but about the parts that made Einstein the genius that he was.
...or they aren't engineered for the once-in-two-decade major catastrophe
I've personally had it twice. 9/11 and the earthquake in Mineral, VA. Just saying :)

You're claiming that CNN broadcast from S.C., and claimed that it was Iraq? Evidence?...my Google search turned up nothing.

No: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intelligence_agencies#Iceland
Maybe you could enlighten us. I haven't seen Portugal in the news here in years.

And it doesn't have to be cash. I came through US customs with a cashier's check from the sale of property, and had to declare it.

what's wrong with using paintballs?
I hope this is your idea of sarcasm, but just in case you're serious, the answer is: plenty.

Maybe so, but not relevant to the current situation 60+ years later.

Queue Tony Orlando and Dawn...Knock Three Times.
Recognizing that this is only my own experience, I haven't heard the phrase in quite some time, and even then not from someone under age 40.
I feel a bit guilty at giving her a hand-me-down, but it still looks and works good as new.

This is hardly a datapoint. It's an opinion, and his is no more (or less) valid than anyone elses.

This would seem to disagree...

Ah, Seneca said it. Must be correct. How did he determine who the wise were, those who agreed with him?
