    Then again, when IRL everyone you know is either chaff or already taken... it makes it difficult.

    The existence of Adobe Photoshop (I would say NSFW) is one of many reasons why I won't do online dating.

    I'll note that at least since Opera 9.2, and maybe earlier, preferences such as that can easily be set per site. Another useful per-site one is disabling plugins (I'm sorry, sometimes I don't want Flash on your site,) or enabling pop-ups.

    Some sites I have it set to mask as Firefox, some are ID as IE (with Opera in the string,) some are ID as Firefox, and I default to IDing as Opera.

    Actually, it wasn't just a web server. And, I think it was slashdotted three times (there's a link to the C64 in there.)

    And that's not counting other devices running the same TCP/IP stack or OS getting slashdotted.

    Ah, but the Intel Macs use PCI Express Mini cards.

    This is a G4, using a Mini-PCI card. No Boot Camp here. So, I maintain that this specific card is unsupported under Windows.

    (And, yes, I know the chipset is probably supported under Windows. Doesn't change the fact that there's no Windows machine that the card would fit in, thanks to Apple's proprietary form factor.)

    You know, this issue makes me wonder... maybe the problem with Linux isn't at all the packages, but is rather the marketing.

    The name Linux is somewhat associated with hacking everything to get it to work, and there's also the fact that googling how do to something on a given distro typically eventually gets to dropping to the terminal, kernel hacking, etc., etc.

    Maybe the first distro to actively hide the fact that it's Linux would meet greater success...

    And there are also many wireless cards that don't work properly - which is the problem. Especially because they're the newer ones.

    The laptop I'm typing this on has a wireless card that is unsupported under Windows.

    Unless you mean to tell me that Apple provides drivers for the AirPort Extreme Mini-PCI card for Win32. ;) Or that it even fits in a Win32 system (it looks to be a fair bit longer than a regular Mini-PCI card. ;))

    I tend to be more careful when I'm not running AV, but even when I am running an AV, it's probably only once a year that I get something that contains a virus.

    As for the other people using my computer issue, I have an answer to that.

    Liberal use of Windows-L whenever I'm AFK.

    Actually, both KDE and GNOME have systrays... I forget whether it's that KDE and GNOME use different protocols, but one understands the other's, or whether they're compatible protocols, but for all intents and purposes, they're common.

    And, install stuff on WINE that dumps stuff in the systray, and... you guessed it, WINE puts it in the KDE or GNOME systray.

    Technically, satellite counts as high speed internet, and I'm sure you can get a T1 for somewhere in the ballpark of $250/mo...

    Also, there may be EvDO in your area.

    It's a sad day when wireless is a better transmission medium than copper, due to the market.

    It hasn't hurt mine, either, but I still think it's a major flaw in the system.

    Also, I do believe there have been cases where trolling groups have targeted specific posters, and moderated them up all the way funny, and then down all the way troll, and repeated this, causing an infinite karma drain.

    Speaking of over/underrated, I tend to use underrated in place of funny, because funny doesn't give the poster any karma. (A single funny mod actually reduces the maximum karma a person can receive for a post, making it in some ways WORSE than a negative mod - at least if a post gets down-modded, it can get modded back up, reversing the karma loss.)

    Sometimes I'll find that the post has an insightful, interesting, or informative component, and will use that mod (which at least allows it to be metamodded, and follow the system,) but sometimes funny is the only appropriate mod... so I go underrated.

    First, 24 months seems to be more normal, although most companies let you get a new phone at the new contract price (if you agree to renew the contract right then and there) at 18.

    Second, I'll say... my Sanyo MM-8300 is rather indestructible. The antenna isn't in great shape, but despite being a flip phone, it works great. The battery is just starting to wear out. (And I'm past the 24 month point.)

    Camera sucks, and has always sucked, but that's not the main thing I use it for. The main thing I use it for is talking, and browsing the web. And, it's actually better for that than modern Sprint phones - this doesn't support EvDO, so I only pay $7.50/mo for unlimited internet, vs. $15/mo for a EvDO phone.
