The Calgary system is indeed pretty slick - you enter your license plate # into the pay machine, can pay via cellphone or even on the internet, and there's a truck that drives around with like 8 cameras on it doing OCR on all these plates. You get your ticket in the mail in a week or two with a pic of your vehicle - kind of like photo radar. I think it's called the ParkPlus system but I could be wrong.

After reading the bill, the fact that it got a standing ovation seems really... fucked up. It kind of took the wind out of my sails to see it, though it seems like it should be redundant to something in the criminal code. Unfortunately I'm really busy and don't have time to look that up right now... maybe someone else will. If it is redundant than I'll be more than happy to write my MP. last week of school though, time is so short...

I remember when I was a kid, maybe in my early teens (so late 80's early 90's) Popular Science or Popular Mechanics had a little feature on the 100mpg engine, i think it even made their front cover. Microsoft, Google, Apple and all other companies supporting the censorship of the word 'freedom' from the chinese vocabulary should be tried for treason immediately. Let's see Bush put his tough talk about freedom and democracy into action at home. Censoring the concept of freedom abroad is the gravest act of intellectual terrorism against Americans I can think of especially when it's happening within America's own borders. Most of the Chinese are good people, let's start considering ways to save them from the assholes who are trying to run their lives.

The funny thing is, that both of you are showing the extreme viewpoints that this film is talking about. yesterdays generation and today's generation, you both talk about. we need to use aspects of both if we're going to avoid living in either a) the sterile mechanical future or b) back in the caves starting from scratch. it shows us that we can't forget that we're human, and that we have to allow for that, even while the inevitable progress comes and takes us to the future. Many people see similarities between parts of the movie and life today - well maybe it's a warning... But don't stop living and hide away from 'big brother'... be human and get involved, because 'big brother' is a person too. I'm soooo stoked this film is coming out on dvd! my recorded copy on vhs from pbs 10 years ago(I'm 24) is getting rather shabby...
