This is a stupid article really. The "experiment" (and I use the term loosly) that was carried out was fundimentally flawed.
Firstly, the nature of an encyclopedia is that you go to a page to find out information. By adding details only, he made the information less likely to be casually confirmed by people who go there to find information, as the information would have to be quite rare, else they would have already been added.
Secondly, the amount of time that the misinformation was held up was quite small. Even the supposedly infallable brittania testers would be lucky to find one of the five deliberately planted "facts" in such a short time.
Thirdly, Wikipedia gets plenty of hits, but not that many! It's very possible that none of those pages were even looked at! Assuming hits were spread evenly amoung pages, an average page (which these certainly weren't, as I'll get to next) would get approx. 50 hits. Hits are obviously not spread evenly amoung pages, so we don't actually know how many times the pages were looked at! Also, since four out of the five articles are stubs, it's not very likely that they were read.
Forthly, none of the pages chosen had even been updated in the previous week, with the single exception of Bernice Johnson Reagon, which was updated two days beforehand. However, this article was given a mere 20 hours before the "fact" was removed!
Finally, the facts are all plausable, and close to the truth. Even someone who knows enough to dispute those facts would quite probably not pick them up on reading.
I hope I have projected the extreme rediculousness of this experiment. The article should go into the trash bin where it belongs.
Though I haven't read all the comments, I don't think anyone has picked this goody up: "Microsoft's platforms offer better interoperability with the company's other technology, such as.NET"
In my opinion, this proves two points
That Microsoft won't interoperate well with products not owned by microsoft, i.e. Microsoft has a monopoly, and
That, looking at the software not made by Microsoft, and the software that is made by Microsoft, linux, that supports the software not run by Microsoft, has much better interoperatability.
I'm not sure why you're bringing up linux gaming on a console for. The parent mentioned linux gaming, gaming on consoles, and linux development on consoles, but not the combination of linux and gaming on consoles.
Anyway, if you're looking at PC gaming, I'm not sure why developing on linux is any way different to developing on windows. There's no restriction to release the source code as you so idiotically say. There's no reason why it would not be viable. In fact even with consoles, I don't see how any of your arguments have anything whatsoever that's based on fact.
Anyways since I'm australian I just translate IRS into Tax Office. Those guys really aren't that bad when you get down to it, just they're evil for taking my money.
For ad stripping of web sites, AdBlock allows you to download the ads without showing them, which I and many other people have enabled. AOL uses the IM to advertise their online service as well, so it doesn't really lose them money, just make them gain less money.
I think that people like the linux XBox hack (which yes just loses them money) cause basically it's demonstrating complete irony. You're buying an XBox, and using it to promote Microsoft's number 1 enemy! That's just funny.
Why are people against this? I think it's because the google technology is in itself innovative, and using this hack only strives to stifle that innovation. If google are forced to pull the plug on it then that benifits noone. Not only that, but the googlefs is dangerous in many cases. It hammers the connection of google, and not only that if you get banned you have lots of data to lose.
really? I have not met a single linux ATI user (not a serious one anyway. My brother's best friend tried installing linux on an ATI computer but gave up after shoddy UT gameplay.)
I have no qualm with them giving linux better hardware, as long as they give speed results as well. Then again, they'll probably test how fast the OS' cooperate with Windows instead of . . . umm . . . speed (*cough* veritest *cough*)
Personally I've met quite a few lawyers (have a couple in my extended family even) and none of them have been evil in any way. IRS people are just doing their job. CIA higher-ups are employed by (assuming you're american) you to protect you.
yep. I live in Australia and even here, with the relative darkness in relation to the rest of the world, light polution can be a huge problem. You have to travel very far away from sydney to stop getting affected by the huge light pollution generated.
If you notice after clicking on the picture in the "picture of the day" site, the picture is dated August 11th 2002. Actually the first time I saw this picture was in a cosmology lecture around may last year. I still love it.

what has installing windows XP and SP2 got to do with MythTV on a linux box?
I've convinced everyone I know to use firefox as well - so it's increased much more than that from my perspective!

they then want to conduct some experiments on Alice and Bob.
I love the futurama in-jokes. My favourite is Klein's Beer.
Thanks for the second one - my bandwidth will be full tonight!
Another way of searching for trouble with google.
My sympathies go out to you . . . and your grandmother and ex-wife . . .
Please read my message. I didn't say directly that GMail is innovative, but Google itself is. They spend millions on innovation.
It's times like this I wish I hadn't spent all my mod points on the last comments page I looked at.
how many different programs can you burn dvd's with in linux?
Just off the top of my head, four. There are also two major (and free) dvd movie authoring packages. Look them up.
how many linux computers can play doom 3?
In a few weeks, all of them.
With some creative Word customization
Customisation like automatic changing from "lecturer" to "arsehole" to keep sanity.
may I ask how many theives are really smart enough to do that? Let's be realistic here - not many thieves are software engineering students.

sorry for my complete ignorance.

uhuh, so if 99% of websites don't use two different machines, that gets 99% of images.
Events in New Zealand?
The last time I checked, NZ is a long way away from Asia!

I think he meant EU as in Europe. Don't be so picky.
Anyways it reminds me of the G5 commercial that said "The first and fastest 64 bit desktop processor". AMD had two things to say about that one!
Steriotypes!! Get your steriotypes!

However, credit salesmen are evil. Totally evil.
