    You have to outrun volcanos and tsunamis all the time? Yeesh, I must have missed the news reports. Which volcano was it? Rainier, St Helens, or Baker? The only local eruptions I've heard anything about lately are from a CEO of a certain software company down the road from me. No lava though, just a couple of chairs tossed about.

    As for tsunamis, I must have missed those too. Only disaster around these parts lately is that quarter inch of snow we got last week. Oh, the tragedy!

    they have to dig your car out of the debris that either a volcano or tsunami piles on top of your car because you couldn't get out of the area fast enough. Here in Washington State, either scenario is possible.

    I haven't RTFA, but I can only assume that there is some room to allow for the
    use of evasive high speed when necessary.

    I too have noticed that lately the /. front page has not been reloading correctly. I am in no way an expert with web page design, so correct me if I am wrong, but could it have something to do with style sheets?

    I only have this problem is only with the /. front page and no other page that I frequent.

    I think you might be taking my original posting out of context. I was not praising Lee, but instead I was agreeing with the original posting in this thread about Steve Ditko being the creator of Spiderman.

    I've always felt that Lee took way too much credit for the work of others. I certainly hope Mr. Lee will share something from the settlement with the families of Ditko and Kirby.

    I will say though, that this case does strike a blow in the favour of artists getting their due. It's a shame Ditko and Kirby didn't get theirs.

    You are so right! It's true that Stan Lee was involved in creating FF, Spidey, and many other Marvel titles, but Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko were the true forces behind many of the Marvel titles from the 60's.

    I sincerely hope that Mr. Lee remembers that and shares at least a token ammount of the settlement with the families of Ditko and Kirby.

    I posted a similar thought farther down (Re:WTF) but it more in a humorous nature than yours. Now after thinking about it more, I agree that you have a point here.

    This could be exploited to launder money, transfer funds, or even worse, let's say some criminal element sets up their own game, and uses it as a scam?

    Depending on where the server is located, and the treaties involved, this can become the next really great thing as far as crooks are concerned.

    That was my reaction to this story, then I RTFA and it makes sense IF in the end there is real money to be made. How much sense or cents, I don't know.

    What I wonder about is whether this crosses the line into online gambling?

    I wonder what would happen if the mafia decided to move onto this island and set up casinos and contoll the virtual hookers. Who knows, it may be a new way to launder money :)

    Then again, I was referring to the AOL outage and in that case, it might well be spelled $hit. I bet the person who is responsible is in deep she-it. And you just know a few of the AOL brass is at a bar getting shit-faced trying to forget about what happened.

    I better knock this off before I get into shit with the moderators.

    Why not just use the PTC form to send positive feedback about any show that care abut?

    Another tact would be that every time you see something on television you like, send an email to: fccinfo@fcc.gov and let them know that you your feelings about the show and be sure to cc the network or station too.

    You have a point there, they may not complain to the authorities, but instead retaliate with some very nasty tactics that in turn will just make things worse. Look at the tactics they are using now, these people don't care who they hurt or what laws they are trounsing on.

    I'm not saying we should just stick our heads in the sand and ignore the problem of spam, I just feel that there are other ways to deal with it that will not escalate things into an all out war between spammers and netgilantes.

    Initially I agreed with the "Fight fire with fire" approach, but like others have said, why waste the bandwidth? There is also the possibility of the spammers retaliating against the users of this screensaver as well as unnecessary intervention by government agencies that have no place sticking their noses in this. Yes spammers suck, but this is not the way to deal with the problem. Once again, I find myself changing my views after reading the posts of others. It's time for dinner, so I think I'll eat at the waffle house tonight.

Since CD's diffract laser light, any one of the Axis of Evil could gather up all the surplus AOL CD's and install them on the outside their missles so as to defeat all of our laser based missle defences. WOW! It just dawned on me! AOL = Axis Of eviL Just the thought sends shivers down my spine.

    From what I can tell, the only spyware concern that anyone has to worry about from WinAmp is the reporting feature that can easily be turned off.

    Cosidering how good the free version is, WinAmp is a great piece of software. Given the previous story about WinAmp closing, I am now planning to pay for the full-up version to show my support, and hopefully ohter will too, and maybe AOL will get a clue and not mess with a good thing too much.

    Well, I can't be a pesemist all the time. The optimist in me thinks there is a pony some where in that pile of AOL CD's.

    Sad to see the "B" retire, but at least it will be replaced by an "H" It's amazing that the B52 in general has lasted this long. Says a lot about the design.
