...this is somewhat old news. Last year someone broke into NYU's gym computer (yes, I know)...and stole something like 10,000 student ssn numbers. This year, NYU has switched to non-ssn id numbers for students. Way to be reactionary and not proactive guys.
PS. my ssn was stolen in this incident and I'm still in control of all my banking functions. People need to relax a little bit about this one.
and it works great as long as your pc can handle it. Anything under say a p4 2ghz is gonna be strained when sending divx movies and doing ANYTHING ELSE. Idle you should be okay
I also had some problems with mp3s...depending on the bit bitrate, some didn't play back at all.
Otherwise.. I LOVE IT!
I'm waiting for an affordable BlueRay burner to come out for my PC so that I can start copying DVDs without losing quality and features.
MMM...4 movies on one disc....druel.
Thats it, i'm staying home during the week and going to work on the weekends. Gotta counteract this "weekend effect somehow"...even if it means going to work 3 days less during the week.
I'll be taking one for the team here.
The next step is to plug one of these phones into a wifi connection. Now you have a virtual cellphone in any Wifi Location. Do this at an office where you may have a WiFi building and you're golden.
I'm also pretty sure that IBM has already realeased something like what I have mentioned.
As much as I love a movie where a big green guy smashes things, I think the CGI could you use ALOT of work. In the trailer he looks obviously computer generated.
I'm waiting for the Matrix where you can't tell the difference b/w real Neo and computer generated Neo.
I've seen the cable on demand functionality of "Cablevisions - Digital IO" service and it blew me away. You could watch whatever whenever. I think that this AOL-TW product will be dwarfed by on demand broadcasting. I'm waiting for the day when television will shift from broadcasting on a set schedule, to allowing the viewers freedom to choose what to watch, and when.
Imagine sitting down at 4AM and throwing on the news. It of course would not be live, but who cares. If you can watch it then, then great.
I do own a Tivo, and my TV watching has changed drastically. Unfortunately though, if its 7:30PM on a Sunday and I want to watch the new Simpsons episode at 8:00, I still have to wait. Imagine a system like this:
The channel decides which shows will "air" in a given week, and the viewer has access to ALL of them, at any time. If it's Monday and I want to watch something that typically airs on Friday, no problem. The only caveat with this, is live television. And you know what, if the live broadcast is that good, people will tune in at that time too.

The writer of this article should have included a link to techtales.com. At least that way we would get a laugh out of it.

Can someone put up a mirror please.

Given adaquate equipment, anyone could transmit thier webcam to EVERYONE with a tv. Sounds like that would make for some interesting tv.
