    The most delicious hole in the wall Japanese place I used to eat at had a C. I asked them why. They told me they were scheduled for an inspection and their sink broke that day.
    was it true? I dunno, but I certainly never got food poisoning there, unlike the A rated place just down the street.

    Same here. If I'm grading a 1-5 scale, you don't get a 1 unless you try to murder me, and you don't get a 5 unless i leave your company hoping you'll run for president and save the country.
    It's always seemed stupid to me that with five choices, we're forced into only 2, and the other three are wasted.

    Years ago, in college, when rating women my ratings were always too low. I explained : 5 is the middle, I go from there. My roommates used the "7 is a C, that's the middle".

  8. I used to think that, as a kid, in California- the midwest sucked and we were the chosen few. Then I grew up. I realized that the friends I knew who moved there were HAPPIER. Not from McMansions, or from the weather, but from the lack of traffic/annoyance/your attitude prevalent in California. They could afford trips, visiting nature, doing things that made them happy.
    In other words: Not having to deal with you.

    "They've cut down the standard fifty lashes to only 40!".

    But recently, anytime some moron is dangerously tailgating me trying to get around me, they have a Lyft/Uber sticker on the car. I don't think they speed with passengers in the car, but getting to pickups drive like madmen.

    So you've essentially described a group of people occupying roughly the upper end of a bell curve.
    What do you do with the 25-50% of the population on the lower end that can't do this?
    Because if you let them get poor and desperate, they're certainly capable of bashing your head in and taking your stuff.
    The world is fully of people who are probably in the 90% IQ range: Just slightly less smart than average.
    They're not bad, they're not lazy, they're not useless: but they are incapably of doing a lot of mental heavy lifting often required of the tasks listed above.
