    * Oh, and a particularly lame Pascal textbook (in the 1980's) that priced out at 16 cents a page? I photocopied it ALL, then took the book back for a refund. Strangely, doing this just once cured me of being cheap. For ten bucks, I learned, I could have a smaller form factor, a hard binding, and a 2nd color used for highlighting key details that the photocopies lost.*

I did this for a particularly lame Setup-and-run-a-business textbook and saved myself $20. The 'text' was a complete waste of paper and I'm glad I never bought it.

I've also had one professor, unable to get his ramblings published, had the univerisity secretaries photocopy his draft, then sell the results, three hole punched and wrapped in saran wrap, as a mandatory book for his students who had to separately purchase the binder to house the pages.

What tremendous victory? They found a dirty, shivering, old man cowering in a hole in the ground. It's damn satisfying to see the bastard caught, but it isn't a tremendous victory.

There is a faction or factions within Iraq who are bombing Iraqi and American targets, the latest a police station. The death count from that is astounding and it happened AFTER the arrest of Saddam.

And old Saddam did NOT look the guy who was in charge of them there factions, he looked like anything BUT the guy in charge while the old American doc was checking him out for head lice.

Hell, Saddam's safety has probably been one big headache for whomever is running the various factions and now they're rid of the jerk and have resources (?and bank accounts?) freed up.

Catching Saddam doesn't mean a damned thing. It won't stop the bombing, it won't help stabilize the lives of the Iraqis.

And I doubt it was Saddam's bunch of henchmen who are doing the bombing anymore; it might have been at first, but I'll bet you that scene has shifted and is realigning itself, particularly after every extremist, American-hating, Islamic nut joined the fray.

About the only thing hunting Saddam's buddies will get you anymore is a varying group of thugs and their suitcases stuffed with diminishing amounts of cash.

It's time for the US to get the hell out of Iraq, let the various terrorist factions organize and show themselves. Then the US can go back in and hit them hard and fast. The situation in Iraq is currently far too chaotic to organize a government out of; the US is only making a target of its troups by remaining.

Give the various councils in Iraq a month to organize themselves, get out, and go back in for round two in six or seven months. That's the tactic of the terrorist factions, that has to be the tactic the Americans adopt also.

    *Sure lets kill them.*

Is that the only method of rehabilitation that you can think of besides jail time? What is it that makes you think that? And lets take this a step further; what is it about jail time that makes you believe it rehabilitates?

Personally, I tend to go with the experts (some of whom are the sexual offenders themselves) who say that rehabilitation is impossible. Mainly because you hear of freaks who have 'served their sentences' and then re-offend. I'm of the belief that a person's sexual preferences are hardwired into the brain and are unchangeable. If someone gets their kicks from killing someone and their sex drive is strong, they will do it again.

So, is there a way we can determine who, amongst sexual offenders, will reoffend? No. That ability is somewhere in the future along with the ability to rewire someone's brain. So, what do we do with Freak and all Freaks like him in the meanwhile?

For those crimes where someone was raped, beaten, or killed, ie. hurt, the safety of the community comes foremost and is the paramount concern. Freak, by having hurt a member of the community is no longer a member of the community and his/her welfare comes second.

Why is it that Freak, and Freaks like Freak have no problem disregarding the laws that govern us all but then demand to be protected by those same laws?

Either you utterly disrespect the laws, or you toe the line (this includes disagreeing with a law but following legal procedures in having that law revoked).

*Lets murder all dissenders, lets bomb our way to a better world.*

This is a topic regarding sexual offenders. If you can convince the slashdot moderators to put up a topic regarding the war in iraq, then spout this drivel.

Personally, I believe 'that some people were flawed during manufacturing and should be recalled.'

A child was kidnapped off of the streets of Toronto in broad daylight, and reappeared in pieces in several suitcases the next morning. But the most shocking news was that within a 10 block radius of her house there were 200 sexual offenders that the police were aware of. Within the entire city there are thousands.

A sexual offender list is not a list of folks that parents can hunt down and kill. It's a 'heads-up' list. It's a 'yo! Don't let Suzie and little Billy anywhere near the freak two doors down.'

IMHO, freak forfeits his right to privacy the instant freak commits a criminal offense. And privacy is the least thing freak should be asked to give up as part of atoning for freak's crime.
