Then don't. This product isn't for you. Why is it when ever Apple does *anything* Slashdot takes it as a personal affront? The iPod (lame), the iPhone (better Smartphones exist), the newest MacBook Pros (No Express Card slot), The built in batteries, etc. Apple, or any other company, isn't forcing you to do anything.

When McLaren or Maybach come out with new cars do you all complain that they're over priced and don't appeal to you? Why do you do it with computers?

Sort of reminds me of this xkcd. Fine, the Apple tablet doesn't appeal to you, why even bother making a comment?

I don't do anything but 'programming' all day. Data reduction via Matlab. CANape is scripted with more or less C. I know C, C++, Java, Matlab, Perl, PHP, VBA, Assembly (enough to read it), etc. It's just a tool.

But in addition to knowing that I know PID controllers (and how to implement in C or Assembly). It's just becoming such that knowing a how to program isn't the least common denominator. In the '70s what 18 year old boy COULDN'T fix his own car? It didn't mean he should be come a mechanic.

I work for a Fortune 100 company. We have an electronics division that does nothing but 'program'. Most program in Simulink, but for low level stuff we still have people that do C. (Stuff that runs real time.) We have people that are working on autonomous vehicles, people that write internal applications for the company, etc. I don't know a single "programmer". Every single person is an "Engineer" with either their Computer, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree.

All of us grew up with the original NES. I remember when SMB3 came out and spending time at a friend's house trying to beat it.

Nintendo seems to have hired some ... amazing people as of late. It's indescribable how well New SMB pays tribute to the original games. For example, the "challenge" board starts off identical to SMB3...but then it's so much more. The music, the worlds, Big props to Nintendo.

The only people who seem to think Manual transmissions require thinking and or labor are people that have never driven manual transmissions. It becomes a second nature after 6 or so months and 2 or so days in a new vehicle.

It's like typing vs speech to text. Speech to text people who have never typed (Rare now, but maybe in the future) will quickly point out "Why would I ever want to physically manipulate keys? I mean. It's a mundane task. I'll let the computer do it for me."

I don't need to 'think' how to type or where the keys are. I just decide that I need to write this and my fingers just move to the positions they need to be in. The last 2 times I've had to 'think' about are when I learned QWERTY and when I learned DVORAK. After the first month. I just knew where the keys were. It's the exact same with a manual transmission. I know what 4000 RPM sounds like, I know what lugging sounds/feels like. I know what gear I'm in. I put no more consideration into shifting than I do walking. (Then again we can't all have Randy Newman coaching us through, "Left foot right foot foot right foot left foot right foot".

Funny thing is people cite "city" driving as worst case scenario, but when I went to India EVERYONE had a manual transmission. Even the autorickshaws are manual.

VDPAU under Linux works AWESOME. It will even upscale SD content (feature set C). Broadcom has their MiniPCI card that a ton of NetBooks run. I bought one for my AppleTV so that I can do 1080p. XBMC supports it. OS X should support it soon.
