By JUST redoing the bandwidth, we'll probably duplicate efforts later pulling up roads to run wire, etc. Reminds me of a story a friend told me about a town redoing main street. They had a big plan and sent out info to all of the companies with pipes/lines under it. They said if they needed to replace anything, do it now or if they need to replace it before X years, they would foot the entire bill. The center of town got a ton of new fiber, etc.
I think Bailout and any bailout money we were going to give the Big 3 and rebuild Americas' infrastructure. Bridges, Dams, Power lines, roads. Quite a bit of stuff was built during the great depression putting people to work. After the MN bridge collapse inspectors are coming out of the wood work going "Yeah, these could fail at any time now too."
Take all those 2.9M employees that are out of work and have them start building shiat. If they want to sit on their Union ass and do nothing, they get nothing. Turn off unemployment. There'll be no shortage of jobs. Pay them what they're actually worth as manual labor. Caterpillar & Deere, the big 2 domestic construction manufacturers would need to increase their workforce (Which is partially union). Truckers would get more work shipping construction supplies and equipment. Mobile home makers would need to up production for temporary housing. Concrete, asphalt, and steel industries would need to up employment to help keep up with demand.
Along every road and every bridge run fiber, it costs nothing compared to what a new road does, so run a fat pipe to every town in America. The next Wozniak or Linus could be sitting at a place that currently just has 14.4 dial up. Maybe the smartest of the high school students could take part in remote learning at MIT or some where where they'll not be kept behind with the rest of their class.
In addition, toss a rail line down the center of the interstates. Get a light rail connecting most large cities. Maybe even a 'ferry' service. Need to go to CA? Load your car up on a rail. Go sit in the comfortable seats and in a day. You're in CA.
Just like all those roads and bridges helped spark the auto boom a decade or so later, in 10-20 years we could really see the economy back on its feet doing something else productive.
By "back to my laptop" did you mean actually back to your IP address or to a hostname called 'localhost'. My last 3 hops are:
15 localhost (123.30.120.65) 278.356 ms 279.295 ms 280.059 ms 16 localhost (123.30.120.22) 282.366 ms 283.057 ms 283.577 ms 17 203.162.184.114 (203.162.184.114) 284.300 ms 273.151 ms 273.795 ms 18 * * *
If you do an NSlookup on 123.30.120.* it resolves to localhost but it's not my 'localhost'.
Macs are mostly safe from the 'remote execution' that take over most Windows machines, they are not safe from from spyware from stupid users. With more and more (dumb) college students owning Macs, I'm expecting a rush of "Get your Smilies Here!" apps being released for OS X.
Pkg maker for OS X is insanely easy to use and very powerful. Complete with preflight and postflight scripting (in any language you choose.)
As a proof of concept I've made a "PWNED.pkg". It included 1) logKextClient and a script that would mail me the log nightly. 2) autossh that would ssh back to my home computer and open a port. 3) Some LaunchD scripts that would run all of those on system startup and periodically.
It would be very very trivial to add a LaunchD script that ran once a night that downloaded "http://www.pwned.ru/script.pl" and executed it. All of the PHP IRC bots run natively on my Mac.
Only thing I was missing was something MUST HAVE to wrap it around.
Can't he also release them to multiple websites? Ogg (or what ever the completely open format the cool kids are using these days) on some.gov site and the locked down.flv on YouTube. Most of the populous will view them on YouTube because it's easy and the FOSS hard core still get what they wanted.
TFA: The Federal Communications Commission licenses frequencies to radio and television broadcasters who, by law, must meet public service requirements and obey decency rules. Because cable and satellite do not transmit using frequencies, but rather employ technology paid for by private industry, and because cable and satellite require subscription fees, legal experts have maintained that Congress and the FCC lack the authority to regulate them for indecency and obscenity. Moreover, cable and satellite companies consider their programs immune from FCC rules and fines.
So let people keep the "Paid for" alternative. You have free over the air TV. You also have paid for cable. Over the air TV has certain FCC regulation. Cable TV doesn't. I'd love to be able to get my parents on even 0.5Mbit connection just to send photos back and forth. USPS is literally faster to where I grew up than trying to send a photo website.
Baby Safe II # Teaches the numbers and the alphabet with spoken words as the toddler presses keys. # Displays pictures of flowers and animals at random or when the space key is pressed. # Displays geometric shapes at random and when the mouse is clicked. Baby Banger Baby Banger fills the screen with a large white window where randoms sounds and shapes are displayed for young children to look at and identify. It can even speak the name of the shapes being displayed. The source code is included in the download.
Rugby tackles can be just as hard however they typically aren't, why? 1) After a rugby tackle there isn't a whistle. There isn't a TV Time Out or a play clock. You either have to pick, ruck, or roll 2) There is no padding. NFL Players constantly use their padding as armor or a weapon. It's like saying I can hit people harder with a baseball bat than with my fist. No shit, there's less possibility of self damage with the baseball bat.
And your argument of "tactical contest between coaches" makes it sound more like a mindless game of chess. (Which I'm not arguing that it's not). Every single rugby player has to be able to make split second decisions and see the entire field.
Third, the type of game that Rugby is would leave most NFL players on the sidelines gasping for air. 1) NFL games are split up between 2 teams (Offense and Defense) that rotate out roughly every 4 plays. Rugby usually has 1-2 subs at most. Meaning all 15 players per team are on the field during the entire match. 2) NFL regulation matches are 4 quarters-15 minutes long. However this is usually spread out over 3ish hours. Rugby is 80 minutes spread out over roughly 90 minutes. (10 minute halftime).
Finally, I suggest you watch some stuff on youtube. There are plays and combinations that make the NFL look like tic-tac-toe.
You'll teach a bunch of Rugby players to play American Football much easier than vice versa.
Indeed, What the fuck. STOP. If I wanted Digg I'd go there.
1) I only go to my profile to see if I've been modded. I don't care about some pseudo fire hose. 2) WHAT THE FUCK have you done to the main page. I actually want to read TFS.
Anybody catch the latest Top Gear where they had an mileage challenge (compared to the normal speed ones). VW already has a small car out that'll get 60+ MP-USG Highway.
Why not just allow ships to arm themselves? Q-ships will just lead to "scout" pirate ships that test the waters to see if the ship is armed then still go after the regular ships.
If that oil tanker had a few RPGs and people that knew how to use them, there wouldn't be a problem. As other people have said these are fishing boats.
Unless you're a single stop light town, any one doctor, firefighter, etc aren't on call 24/7. They have other people working for them. Hell even in my single stop light town with a volunteer fire department, one of my teachers was a FF. Some days he'd forget to turn down his radio and you'd hear a big call come through and he'd just turn it down.
And that's why baby sitters need to be responsible. If the kid is injured, teach the babysitter how to call 911 or the medic. Have an 'emergency contact' of the neighbors or your parents.
I bet a large portion of slashdot grew up before cell phones and their babysitters seemed to do just fine.
And what would be even more annoying than a guy on a cell phone? A guy with a flashlight walking down to tell him to shut up.
What's there for Broadcom to gain by making it harder to write drivers?
Admitting that they stole code/firmware from another vendor?
Which is why need to bring back the WPA.
The ASCE's report card shows that our infrastructure sucks.

I'd be happy if Obama kept to his word. People voted him in on the premise that he would do certain things.
I guess I shouldn't have expected any different from a politician.
My bank does this with a text message. "I don't recognize this computer. How would you like to authenticate yourself?
Text To: XXX-XXX-0001
Voice To: XXX-XXX-0001"
It usually comes through in seconds.

Doesn't look very hardened to me.

iCab 3.x used its own rendering engine back in the day. I guess 4.x has been rewritten to use Webkit.
Back in the day it was a great browser when your only alternatives under OS 9 (and 8) were Netscape or IE.
Not as of 2006, I haven't heard much more since then:
Indecent exposure: Congress, the FCC, cable TV, and satellite radio look to be headed for a big showdown as indecency is among the top issues on the agenda of the new Federal Communications Commission chairman
TFA:
The Federal Communications Commission licenses frequencies to radio and television broadcasters who, by law, must meet public service requirements and obey decency rules. You can show a full length porn at high noon on cable and the FCC can't do a damn thing.
There are a few games for OS X designed for

I'm sure there are Linux equivalents.

Bring on the diesels.
Make sure that the safe is designed for electronic equipment. Long term exposure to heat makes bits want to dance around where as paper may be fine.
rtorrent + rtgui?
You just need to activate the built in drier and you'll be fine. Comes in handy when you fall off your hove^H^H^H^H bike and you need to dry off.
You got my hopes up. That's 128GB.
People have been building HD projectors for a while using old laptops. (Also using old LCDs etc).

Because their grandchildren turn out like Paris Hilton.
