  1. They have brought Shame on themself and Family on Japanese Bureaucrats Reprimanded for Wikipedia Editing · · Score: -1, Troll

This is most regretable circumstance, however it was predicted by equally shameful 8% loss of recent stock value.

Each of the six gentleman must commit ritual Seppuku if there is any hope to restore personal honor.

  2. Round number bias on Radiohead Says Name Your Own Price for New Album · · Score: 1

How about we all generally say $5 for the album? Or, any other amount. 5 seems right to me.

  3. Professor owl? on The Handheld Calculator Turns 40 · · Score: 1

Anyone recall the name of that school-marketed calculator that had Mr. Owl dressed up like an Oxford professor?

  4. Re:Note to jack thompson: on Jack Thompson Includes Gay Porn With Court Filing · · Score: 1

I'm sure he wants to censor the web just as much, but figures that he'll "start small" with videogames.

  5. Re:More press? on Jack Thompson Sets His Sights On Halo 3 · · Score: 1
Wikipedia claims this guy "Jack" actually has a wife.

I sincerely hope that she is really, really ugly.

  6. The theory on OLPC Announces Buy-2-Get-1 XO Laptop Sale · · Score: 2, Funny
That poor foreign kids should/need to/want to emulate little American dorks.

Each laptop should come with free samples of Lithium, Prozac, and Ritalin -- plus an instruction guide for developing ADD/ADHD and avoiding contact with girls.

  7. Re:thinking about something new? think again on Thinking about Rails? Think Again · · Score: 1

I chuckled at myself for trying to hard for so many years when Microsoft actually had a product that worked for once.
There are countless people who still think that a Macintosh is something like System 7, 8, or 9.

Some people even act like it's the Apple IIGS.

  8. "Slow" housing market on Crazy Stevie's iPhone Prices are Insaaane! · · Score: 1

So the "slow" sale of homes is partly a scam to make us think it's a good time to buy...

  9. Re:Hog at the mic on University of Florida Student Tasered At Political Rally · · Score: 1

If this had been a Republican event, kdawson would have posted this story and claimed that the candidate was personally responsible for the tazing.

  10. Re:GREAT Business, GREAT sense on GameStop Manager Suspended After "Games for Grades" · · Score: 1

Realistically, the teacher skills also come into play. Not everyone can teach far beyond their grade level, and schools already have a hard time finding basic chemistry and physics teachers. ... But now I'm dwelling...

  11. Re:GREAT Business, GREAT sense on GameStop Manager Suspended After "Games for Grades" · · Score: 2, Informative

Everyone in the class could get an A and everyone could get an F.
For any one year, of course. But if everyone got an A, then the school would make next year's classes more difficult. They would keep doing that until the perfect balance of {"smart", "acceptable", "failures"} was achieved.

In the long run, grading must be a relative system.

  12. Re:I hope they really can read my mind.... on Big Brother Really Is Watching Us All · · Score: 2, Insightful

Seriously- think of what some Christians might do to their kids: scan their heads for anything violent, sexual, or unholy (and of course punish them accordingly). What a nightmare.

  13. Re:The truth about doing nothing on Science vs. Homeopathy · · Score: 1

cuts off functional parts of the male anatomy at birth out of tradition and ignorance.
Tradition, yes. Ignorance!? Stick to bad poetry, you pretentious jerk.
  14. Re:Fast Turk Interaction on Help Find Steve Fossett · · Score: 1

I wonder if they have software that can spot unnatural shapes on a map (like a plane). Perhaps if planes all had their registration number in very large writing, they'd be able to read it from satellite.

  15. Re:Found a plane... on Help Find Steve Fossett · · Score: 1

Wouldn't a plane in the air measure somewhat "bigger" (being closer to the camera)? I'm not sure how that would scale....

No, it's the definition of a new human hood-ornament for my car.

  17. Re:Repeat after me ... on Astronomers Find Huge Hole in Universe · · Score: 1

"We don't know one millionth of one percent about anything" -- Thomas Edison.
That "seems" true, but there is no way to know that. We might really know 99% of everything, and the remaining 1% is almost impossible to grasp- yet that information might be so critical it would explain absolutely everything.

  18. Re:all fine print on AT&T Arbitration Clause Ruled Unconscionable · · Score: 1
Like the lawyer who said-- "You can't just put a sign on your car saying, 'The driver of this vehicle is not responsible for pedestrians who get flattened.'"

    Don't know who said that.

  19. Re:CD less than 1% on Does Going Digital Mean Missing Music? · · Score: 1
What some call loss could probably be marketed as a special processing feature, to enhance quality and "reduce background noise" or some silliness. (Or not so silly- removing audio artifacts.)

Point being, it's conceivable that lossy formats "sound better".

  20. Welcome to many years ago... on Does Going Digital Mean Missing Music? · · Score: 1
This is an issue from 1998. Producers are just waking up, apparently.

  21. Re:Cory: It's called money on Why Make a Sequel of the Napster Wars? · · Score: 1

But if Napster rips off the recording companies, then the artists are guaranteed to get nothing.
Only at first. Once the recording companies die, artists would be forced into more direct sales of their music (minus the greedy, exploitive middlemen), and they could take home even more money.

  22. A better topic on Coping Strategies for Women in IT · · Score: 2, Funny

  25. Re:You might not like Prince? on Music Industry Attacks Free Prince CD · · Score: 1

If you learn about this musical genius, who, unfortunately gets lumped in with a lot of talentless 80s hitmakers (I hope you read this, Madonna), you will, at least, respect him.

Prince is not only a musical genius, he is an acting genius as well. "Purple Rain" is the greatest movie ever. So great, they practically give it away in stores just like his new album.
