    Perhaps he spoke his mind because he wants to move on. Sued? Really that is a bit dramatic, fired sure, but who knows maybe that is what he wants, at least subconsciously. From personal experience I find SLED to be POS that tries to steer its customer to Novell solutions that cost money over the community driven solution. It bites the hand that feeds without even getting into the MS deal. If I were him I'd run not walk to the nearest exit.

    The first thing I used to do repartition and load linux... of course the last laptop I bought had linux installed.... So it saved me the headache, but cost the same:-):-( The real problem with MS is that they can't allow a few million linux users inter-operate with them.

    No dvd was provided here either, but it wasn't a HP. I don't think DVD's are standard. However more importantly was how little vista had to offer. Having used beryl for a year, I was expecting some competition in the 3d desktop innovation area. It must really burn people to know that they spend so much to have so little. And that includes support for software. The only reason this box was purchased was to run quickbooks 2006, which it didn't. Quickbooks 2007 had to be purchased as well. I told the person person buying it that they should buy XP for shame.

    Assuming that the linux community is say 10 million, then thats about and an average contribution of $75 dollars to match that contribution. I have no idea how much the average person donates, but the people I know typically donate more then $750 per year.

    So they're going to try to compete with google by bundling the search engine with their ubiquitous desktop. Hard drive search engine a couple hundred grand. Potentially stoping 90+ percent of people from ever even considering another search engine ..... priceless.

    Put up a logging firewall on the internet and it will be pretty easy to see which way the security wind blows. All this tells you is that linux admins are twice as likely to discover they've been breached.

    The only thing for Microsoft to do is to install digital cameras on them so they can monitor your usage and ensure that it is proper.

    I think that they should sue their customers. Why stop while they're on a role. Really if they fire up another couple of billion dollar lawsuits against their biggest customers they're likely to get there stocks up into the teens.     So they claim, but install the sources from an old Cladera linux distro. Grep for Caldera and see the code they contributed. Infact they even say it's GPLed in there comments. Is it cut and pasted from Unix? I don't know I don't have the source to Unix (I don't know anyone who does? do you?). Is it the same lines that they're claiming people stole from them? I don't know that either, IANAA

    Fast forward to the present and you have SCO suing IBM about getting chocolate in their peanut butter. SCO would have a much better chance of winning if they sued themselves.

    My first impression isn't that the claim is credible but rather that they stole some linux code verbatium. If so then is all of Unix under GPL now? Seriously how do we know where the code in question came from? How can we be sure that they're not just saying it's theirs and infact it didn't come directly from Linux.

    Yeah... damn it couldn't they have just gone out and bought the mega flops from IBM or leased them. I'm sure that would have been cheaper. As for not paying your salaries, your absolutely right let's cut some more jobs. That will turn up the heat on the economy. And your right on the money with the scientific benefit too. They should just wait until Microsoft comes out with longhorn. Then I'm sure they'll be able to do all the dot products they want.

    No wonder your confused your speaking from the point of the desktop software developer writing applications for home users who get those applications for free from M$. Well, percieved to be free, oddly enough office seems to have jumped several fold in price. Do everyone a favor including yourself and help out with Open office, xmmsjb or any other open source desktop app. gl and have fun. pow OSS will get you through times of no money better then money will get you through times of no OSS.
