    Why? The telemarketer made the choice to make the call, there's nothing wrong with asking for information -- That's what the telemarketer wants.

    Mostly correct, although the root-servers weren't affected, just the gTLD servers.

    HELO/EHLO checks are fun, but it's not that important since a spammer can forge the HELO/EHLO. The idea behind this RFC is that the MAIL FROM *@mydomain will only be used by legitimate IPs, which is impossible to determine with the current system.

    The problem with the current system is that if I run a large ISP, use different MX records as my outbound mail servers, and have hosted domains, then there is no way for a receiving server to identify whether mail from "myclient.com" being sent from "outmail1.bigisp.com" is valid.

    Not NetworkSolutions, they only give you access for the time you pay them for specifically. Beyond that, your domain will be disabled and/or deleted.

    It depends on your security patches and whatnot -- Me, I open every email I get, and I haven't received a single virus infecting my Windoze box.

    Maybe that's just me.

    There are people smart enough to avoid viruses without a virus scanner. I'm over three and a half years without a scanner, and I've *never* had a virus.

    I patch, I firewall, and I don't open every fuckwit attachment I get in my email. It's that simple.
