I have the Direct Tivo unit.
It has absolutely changed the way my family watches tv.
A few weeks ago we were offered to submit to be one the families for this. If you have Direct Tivo you may have the option at the main menu to join in also.
This would not be a derivative work as it is not saved. It is merely "skipped", much like if you had pressed Fast-Forward at the appropriate times.
I think it is a great idea. Many people are taking this to the extreme. It of course is not meant for some movies. However many films have one-two scenes in it that a person may feel they do not want to see or language that they are not wanting to be subject to, this allows them to watch those films.
For those unfamiliar with the techs, the spec set forth by Toshiba/Nec is backward compatible with the now current tech. The blu-ray is not backwards compatible.
I would like see the next-gen players be able to play both disks, I have ALOT! I also happen to favor Toshiba they make one of the better players out there for picture/sound.
Thats how many were FOUND in 150 days, most were always there, just not discovered until later. With Open Source you can find them and patch them in a much shorter time.
I'm tired of hearing this excuse, yes it may be possible to record it back using analog...
There are at least a couple of problems with this,
1-It is not an exact copy, not a big deal but a valid point, remember what happened when you taped from a tape that was taped from a tape????? or are you to young to know what a tape is?
2-This is meant to resrict distribution to the masses, so what you can show it to your neighbors, BIG FREAKN DEAL!, we all know you can buy a sound system, if you have the money you'll also be able to afford that projector too, whooopie!!!!

Build a PVR?

I was under the assumption that radio waves traveled near but not the same as light.
As for the repeaters, they would need some type of orbit, they cannot just float around out there. I too have thought about the possibility. But I would imagine that they would need to orbit another planet, as they wouldn't be able to orbit the sun.
If MS is successfull with thier attemt, not only would the theaters be running Windows, but the studios would need to be as well in order to encode the movie into WMP. So they will have a stronghold there as well.
Just my.02
You do know that they offer a free version of Visual Studio http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/
Can my front door now have a 'backdoor'?

Obviously the budget for the movie wasn't too large based on the selection of actors...
I am a big fan of PKD I just hope that they do a good job of bringing it to the big screen without turning people away from his writings.

Obviously you are supposed to read other slashdot posts and learn how to overclock it to 9200.
