    I've often thought about the privacy vs the accuracy debate and I'm increasingly becoming convinced that privacy in voting can no longer work in such a technologically advance country, and that the reasoning behind privacy in voting is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

    Until you lose your job because you voted for the hippies or the fascists.

    Seriously though WTF is the problem here. You vote into the machine it takes the tally, it prints a filled out ballot and you audit/process that like you normally would. You have an accurate quick count and a normal ballot for backup. No system is perfect but at least it is not worse than what is replacing the paper.

    I agree with whoever up the thread said is smells fishy. It is just a little too much to attribute to incompetence.

    Seriously, though -- why do people still pirate MS products when you can have the free (better?) alternative operating system, office suite, e-mail client, yadda yadda?

    This is more of a statement of MS's prevalence than the relative merits of OSS alternatives. People would switch if interoperability weren't such a (purposely obfuscated) bitch.

    And we will have Slashdot sitting like hawks watching the patent office. At least there is a way to pre-emtively get these dealt with. We see "MS files patent on obvios software" stories all the time here.

    I don't understand why they don't tell kids that fractions and division are the same thing. I personally never even realized this and what it means until a college level number theory course.

    I find it somewhat ironic that a company that makes a significant portion of it's revenue by deep-linking to sites is sending takedown notices to people who deep-link their site.

    I can't help but think that, since I imagine they will re-use everything, including the memory unit, that people will find out not only how to get the data form the chip itself, but also will be able to read what was recorded on there by previous disposable camcorder owners.

    I noticed that your website only offers .m3u playlists for promos. I was wondering if you would ever consider putting up some vanilla .mp3s for demo purposes.

    My project is going for a radio-esque niche and I think my users prefer discreet files for portables and whatnot. I would love to post some files...

    Not only should they have to prove that you distributed it, but they should also have to prove that you distributed it to someone who doesn't have the legal right to have it.

    Why? You don't have _any_ right to re-distribute. Regardless of who you are distributing it to.

    Nothing. The important aspect is really that they can't demand billions of dollars in damages because you have loads of files in your shared directory. They can only claim on stuff they actually downloaded from you.

    I'm going to be moving my desktops/laptops to Mac/Linux soon. I don't want to be part of the problem.

    An easier solution might be to just secure your existing machines. Anyone savvy enough to make the switch to Linux can probably handle securing Windows...

    Just a though....not trying to talk abnyone out of switching....

    You'd have to be a pretty big Pollyanna to believe that removing all security at the airport will result in safer air travel.

    Doing a live show can pay as little as $150! Three hours there, three hours back. An hour to set up. $150 is nothing for the time invested. But, you can get a free hotel room out of it.

    Well, I don't get paid for my commute to work either (3-4 hrs a week). So that leaves $150 for 1 hr setup and 2 hr set. Thats $50/hr, which is more than I make doing something I don't profess to love.
