My PREVIOUS car got 35MPG on the highway and had plenty of power. They don't make cars like that anymore..
Congress, with all its lip-service about ending our dependence on foreign oil, THIS YEAR, voted DOWN a bill requiring car companies to adhere to higher mileage standards.
"Travel should be for everyone, no matter the speed."
Bzzt. The "powers that be" will never let us have that. The "powers that be" want to make sure you're always dependent upon them to get around. They also want to make sure that you pay them for the privilege. Same goes for keeping warm in the winter.
I have just gotten back into bicycling with my new recumbent bike and find that if the current energy crunch (read as, "robber barons ripping everyone off because they can") gets too much worse I can always start riding a bike within town to actually get places (instead of just riding). It's liberating, actually.
You "free enterprise at all cost" losers are the cause for the degradation of the country. We have to have -SOME- rules in place to keep honest people honest and to give society a way to deal with those that are dishonest.
That's why they're picking on someone (a 12 year old girl) that does not have the knowledge or ability to pay for a lawyer and fight. RIAA is looking for -victims- to -exploit- for -profit-.
...but do you really think that if the little girl loses and her family is made to pay (basically ruin their lives over songs they would not have bought in the first place) that congress will REALLY give a flying rat's butt? Congress is in BED with these big corporations.. they're all for it!
The money is in integrating the things and making it work for people.
The other money is in CUSTOMIZING. People have a demand for stuff that works only for their situation, and demands an in-person presence that indians (in india, that is) cannot satisfy.
There's not a huge profit margin in selling commercial packages anyway, but about the same amount of time is spent making them work. SELL YOUR TIME!
(Don't buy the commercial vendors "TCO" arguments..)
Most of my clients are all too happy to get away from "license" payments. They want to spend money for actual value, and a "license" isn't an actual value, other than for the "privilege" of running a software package.
I choose choice. If we were to "standardize" on the desktop it would most certainly be the bloated Gnome or KDE. Nice fast slim desktops like IceWM would most certainly not be in the bidding for "standard" desktops.
then SCO is guilty of pirating the Linux kernel!!
...not on your life!!

I would respond to this censorship with further censorship.. by BANNING ALL FRENCH IP ADDRESSES!
... has ALWAYS been extremely biased towards the "capitalism at all cost" group.
This article was a waste of my bandwidth, EXCEPT for learning that the FSF is actually doing something about some things.
...make the rest of the world LOVE us?
I think they're having the exact OPPOSITE effect.
Oh wait, you were being sarcastic. Didn't have my sarcasm filter on.. ah.. that's better...
You mean, "640 songs ought to be enough for anybody."
No Lexmark, ever!
Percentage of Americans that regularly go to a shrink: 15

This is news? Good god. I wish we could mod whole stories down... ;-(
I don't use Microsoft Money.
;-)
I use SQL-Ledger.
You're thinking of that Kathy Lee Gifford, the child slave driver.
Martha Stewart was only selling stock that was set to go bad... not nearly as horrible as enslaving children...
(and yet Ken Lay runs free...)
What's tacky about having a personal website? As long as it doesn't have frames or animated GIFs I see no problem with it.

(The president and Homer can't both be wrong!!)
Lawsuit budget: $10,000,000.00
Microsoft's UNIX license: $10,000,000.00

SCO's legal budget = $10,000,000
Microsoft's "License" = $10,000,000
