Well, I took an old NEC Nopebook to NEC office the other day since their main tech support office was in Akihabara, Tokyo and I happen to work there.
Its been out of warranty for over two years. They asked me to leave the machine for checkup. The notebook wouldnt power up due to a looooose power jack on the motherboard.
After their initial checkup after a couple days, they called me and told me that this power jack Part of the motherboard is covered by a permanent NEC warranty and they will replace it for free.
After a couple more days, they shipped the computer back to me at their cost with everything back to normal and fixed.
I was really shocked to see this kind of attitude from NEC since they are notorious for charging too much for everything. This fix reeeeally changed my perception of NEC support....though I still hate them for their charges to common pc users on normal computer problems...like Yen 40,000 for a 30 GB hard drive replacement etc....
I agree with you 100%. I have been doing this here on Japan Yahoo and I have started doing the same thing on ebay recently.
Must never buy anything more than $100 from auction sites.
So, does it mean that there will be increased sales of Japanese video games in the UK? If yes, thats a good news for ME and if not, then I would have to search for another markek..
Just wondering if slashdot community would be interested in making something like slashdoppix for the slashdot community to have all the sys admin and server management utilities in there.
Well I hate to do something like this but I just could'nt help to jump in this time. I am tech guy turned businessman and yes I have been reading \. for over 4 years now.
I have a mail order business of Japanese video games and yahoo japan auctions but I also have a service for mail order from Japan. For gadgets, I would be happy to help any of the slashdot readers with a special discount.
Check out my site at http://www.mailorderjapan.com and I am sure you wouldnt be disappointed at the end of the day.

You never have to wait for trains here in Tokyo. They are on time to the second unless someone kills himself.
Its a mee toooo thing but to tell you the truth, the most famous Japanese astronaut was also onboard with lots of kids...it was a nice view
