they are legally required to put profits for their shareholders above all other considerations
No. You're wrong. Why do so many people think this? They are responsible to their shareholders in that they cannot willfully or illegally lose their shareholders money. They do no have to forsake their values.
How careless of Adobe to continue to use an obviously inferior interface long after the holy GIMP hath shown them the One True Window Layout. Why, no wonder people are leaving Photoshop in droves to use GIMP instead!
Oh, wait, there's only a few tens of thousands of GIMP users at most, while millions of graphics design professionals continue to pay thousands of dollars for Photoshop instead of using this clearly superior package that also happens to be completely free.
That's odd because design professionals tend to use macs and the mac version of photoshop has free floating windows, just like the GIMP. In fact, the Windows version of Photoshop was a hack from the beginning.
I know - I bet it's because Windows is so crap!
Now you're getting it.
...GIMP's interface is so much better! Why do they want to use Photoshop?! Why?!!!
Beats me. I'm sure it's nothing to do with the interface, though.
You're right, it has little to do with the interface and more to do with features that GIMP does not yet have like CYMK color management.
Konspire was a cool concept at the time when I tried it out a few years ago but no one ever used it then so it was pretty useless. It worked fine but there was never anyone on it. I was hoping that there were more people on it now but I never did get the Linux client to work and I don't have any machines with Windows on them any more.
At first I thought you were crazy for thinking that 460 TB is an understatement, but when you think about it, Walmart has over 4000 stores. That's only like 115 GB per store, which doesn't even take into account warehouses, central offices, etc. So I think you are right and 460 TB is a huge understatement.
I alone have over a terrabyte of shit downloaded from the Internet. I seriously doubt there is only 229 more terrabytes to download.
You are probably right on this too but your logic is flawed. The internet is not a stable entity. Most of what you have downloaded probably does not even exist on the net anymore.
I guess I'll have to wait till version.4 for linux is released. I cannot get any other player other than xmms to play flac files. I want a gtk2 based player, but bmp doesn't play flacs and rhythmbox segfaults everytime I load a list.
uh-huh. If G5 runs so cool, then surely they could have kept the original cooling-system for the 2.5GHz model, instead of going for an complicated liquid-cooling system? Really, why did they move from heatsink/fan to liquid-cooling?
There is a Sony Vaio that is liquid cooled. It doesn't mean anything. It just means they decided to liquid cool it. Apple probably did it because they tend to be more about the whole package than most PC manufacturers, and liquid cooling it cuts down the noise.
I half-agree with you on this one. I think the real problem is not the flexibility. I've always argued that monolithic kernels aren't good for desktops, and this, in my opinion, is the only thing slowing down Linux acceptance on the desktop.
I don't get this argument at all. Linux is a monolithic kernel but it has loadable modules which makes it a bit more modular. On top of that, neither WindowsXP or OSX is a microkernel.
When I do something, the response or result should return immediately, with no hesitation or waiting. The hourglass cursor should not even exist.
System response time has less to do with processor speed than any number of other factors, including the amount of memory, speed of the memory, latency of the memory, speed of the harddisk, etc.
It's more believable that republicans would do this sort of thing. Do you remember the claims of vandalism in the whitehouse by this administration? Remember the missing W's on keyboards? In the end it was all an elaborate lie. There was no vandalism and no missing W's on keyoards.
This type of thing is right up the republican's alley.
What a scary story! One guy got a sprained wrist and one of the protestors cut his hand. Your original post mentioned guns and molotov cocktails, where are they in this story? It's quite deceiving to make claims against democrats and then cite stories that have nothing to do with those claims.
I'm too lazy to link so google for "The Underground History of American Education"
I've read it, thanks. That's not the point though. Making things worse by making standardized testing reflect an entire school's credibility and ability to get funding, is not the answer. It's a serious problem in almost all schools. Perhaps you should see what happens in a blue collar school system.
Ok, just medicare then. As an uninsured taxpayer, I think it's ludicrous that I have to pay for anyone but my own granny's medicine... especially when by the time I could hope to benefit from this system, it will have been bankrupt many decades. I'm sorry, but I can't save everyone else's grandma, and certainly not at gunpoint.
I think it's ludicrous that I have to pay for roads that I don't use and regulatory departments that keep other people's workplaces safe. Give me a break. I guess instead will just let those worthless grannies die out in the streets. That will teach them!
Is that how you see it? The drugs are cheap in Canada, because the pharmcorps set a certain amount to be sold at that price in canada. If we start importing them, the price will rise to match our own... it's limited. So, though we can't have cheaper drugs ourselves, we could sabotage the canadian grannies. I don't hate them that much.
You don't understand. It's not about Canada, it's about generic drugs. Patents are killing the sick while making the rich richer. That sounds quaint.
Yes, you are a genius, logical and intuitive both. Imagine, me being put in charge, my introspection, my personal desire to not become a monster or impose my will on others... it would be a disaster. It's a good thing we have two-faed politicians to do this impossible work.
You totally missed the point so I will spell it out for you. People's indiffernce towards each other is what causes such rifts in society in the first place. Indifference breeds hatred. Hatred has led some to terrorism.
Well, we allow them to vote, live their own lives, hold property, do pretty much anything a man can do. Oh. Men are allowed to have abortions, but women aren't. Haha. Tell me again how something that is generally wrong can be a "right". Please someone, explain this.
I think it's ridiculous how a whole bunch of men can decide what a woman cannot do. Is this Afghanistan? Should we outlaw breatfeeding too because men can't do it? There was not even an exception in the "partial birth" law (a rather misleading misnomer) about saving the mother from severe pain or disfigurement.
Perfect score. Wrong even on the trivial stuff. i want neither Bush nor Kerry in office. I have serious doubts about Badnarik, for that matter. Why would I listen to an asshat like O'Reilly, or his girlfriend Rush Limbaugh?
"I'm not against welfare..." That's obvious from your post. The Government givith and the Government taketh away, blessed be the name of the Government. Bah! Why can't you let people run their own lives and quit trying to have the goverment help them? I don't want my charity run with the compassion of the IRS, BATF, and USPO. Charity belongs in the private sector and the government needs to keep out of my pocket (other than minimaly). I realize you get to feel good for instituting a socialism because you've "helped the poor" without have to have inconvienced yourself, however most of us would prefer to do our charitable giving of our time and other resources when we choose to.
Wow you really made a lot of assumptions about me without knowing a damn thing. Let me make some assumptions about you then and see how you take it. You seem to be one of those people that doesn't give a shit about a stable and peaceful society as long as you can have a gun so you can shoot people that bother you like the old and disabled. After all, they're worthless, they can't even work! How do they think they are going to pay for their medicine without working? Fucking freeloaders.
Google CNN.com for the phrase "left wing" ~1,600 hits. Roughly half the first page (100 links per page) was regarding the shuttle Columbia. Roughly half of what's left was outside the U.S.
Now repeat for the phrase "right wing" ~ 3,600 hits, maybe 1 or 2 articles on the shuttle, well under 1/4 outside the U.S.
If that doesn't show you that there is a problem with the media then you are in denial.
That's the worst study I've ever seen. Amazingly meaningless. Google doesn't mean shit. Try googling for "liberal" and "conservative". That will tell you...nothing...again. The millions of hits could be anything, bloggers that no one reads, dead pages, spoofs. Who knows? Google is evidence of nothing and doesn't represent all media.
As for being "in control of the country" that is a load of hogwash. I didn't hear a bunch of conservative whining during the last 8 years of the previous century. But really, you only have yourselves to blame for losing the House. The Assault Weapons Ban was foolish and voters let the incumbants know it in spades.
You obviously don't know what control means. The president doesn't control everything that happens in this country. We have congress and the courts. During a lenghty period of time in Clinton's administration the Republicans were in charge of Congress. How could they not be considering where most Federal spending ends up? Certainly not the Blue states. Republicans have never been fiscally conservative despite what they say. They just don't want to spend money in the Blue states. They want their prisons, military bases, and subsidized farming.
Oh, and by the way, if you really didn't hear conservatives complaining during Clinton's presidency they you must have been deaf for 8 years. They republicans ripped him to shreds worse than any president in history. Shit, even today all of Bush's problems are blamed on Clinton.
So instead we have a situation where the majority is underrepresented and the minority has more control and power than they should. We have a situation where the people who pay 70% of the taxes in this country get less than half the amount in government funding compared to those that live in the states that pay 30% of the taxes. I'm not against welfare but I cannot believe it when people from the "red" states complain about the "liberal media" and "liberal professors" when they control the country and its resources from a minority position.
Haha. How? In that they make sure all their soundbites have a pro-school spin? Whatever.
Do you know anyone that works in a school?? My bet is NO. I have several friends that are teachers or work in the school system. Standardized testing is killing the learning process. The school are underfunded. Bush promised a huge budget for schools and then never delivered.
Better for medicare:
I also assume you want to add in a "social security" here. Maybe not. Either way, how? Even if Jesus H. Christ (Senator, NM, Democrat) proposed some ingenius bill that would solve all funding problems, and give everyone the benefits that they wanted... you think it would ever make it out of committee? God you're a loser.
More assumptions?? I'm talking about paying twice or much, or more for medicine, and then banning generic drugs from other countries. I'm talking about forcing grannies to smuggle drugs across the border just to stay alive.
Better for diplomacy:
Yes, but diplomacy is a bad thing. Mostly because it is practiced by diplomats. We should kill them all, and since killing the foreign ones would create a mess, we could start with our own.
I hope you are never put in charge of anything. It's that "fuck everybody else" attitude that is responsible for terrorism in the first place.
Veteran's Benefits:
How do you figure? If the democrat party nominates me, I magically start caring about them, and the urge to use them to gain or maintain political power takes a backseat to their concerns? Haha.
Bush is the one who cut their benefits, in the middle of a war. Kerry will restore them. I can just as easily claim that anything Bush has done is for political power and nothing else. That gets us nowhere. How about we look at results?
Women's rights:
Ah. Abortion. I mean, what other "right" are we denying them?
Oh I didn't know it was OK to deny them ONE right. I mean, it's only ONE.
Yeh, be proud of that. Loser. But please, go on...
You must watch a lot of Bill O'Reilly because "Loser" seems to be your only response.
Fool: One who can't negotiate the finer distinctions of a statement like "there is little guarantee".
I misread that. The term "there is little gaurantee" is just a nuanced way to say "there is no way".
But go ahead, play into the whole party politics bullshit, where republicans are evil and democrats are enlightened saintly men, who serve only to make the world a better place.
Now who is the fool? Did I say that anywhere? Nope. Don't make assumtions about people when you know jack shit about them.
You know what, even if they had allowed the third recount, Bush still would have won. A newspaper went through and did a recount Gore's way after the election was over.
Amazing. You obviously never saw the report because you are quoted the exact out-of-context crap that the right wing media has said. The AP study actually showed that Gore won the state of Florida. What Gore lost was certain scenarios based on some of the recounts he was asking for. Bush lost on some of those scenarios too. If an entire recount was done Gore would have won, hanging chads, no hanging chads, pregnant chads, and without pregnant chads. That's exaclty what the AP said. Read the damn study for yourself (for once).
Even with Gore in office, there is little guarantee that we wouldn't be in some international mess of some kind. Anyone that thinks otherwise is probably a fool.
That is quite a foolish comment in itself. There is no gaurantee that things would be different but it is just as foolish to claim it is impossible.
No. You're wrong. Why do so many people think this? They are responsible to their shareholders in that they cannot willfully or illegally lose their shareholders money. They do no have to forsake their values.

WTF!? I thought this was KDrive. No wonder I was confused earlier in the thread. "What the hell does an X server have to do with Grouper?", I thought.

The interface to audacity is clunky?! How so?
This is not true. I used an ogg plugin for winamp the last time I used it and that was in 2002.
Who needs it? Just run mplayer without the GUI. It works quite well that way.
I guess I'll have to wait till version .4 for linux is released. I cannot get any other player other than xmms to play flac files. I want a gtk2 based player, but bmp doesn't play flacs and rhythmbox segfaults everytime I load a list.
Try the real random plugin.
