Yeah, the old "It's FOSS so we have an excuse for using a half-assed implementation because THE SOURCE IS FREE, MAN!" bullshit. No, it's not difficult to implement binary updates. You build them based on the main source tree and fuck the people that build it with their own optimizations. They'll compile it their damn selves anyway.
You know, this kind of thing is what people have been railing against ActiveX about for years. Suddenly when it happens to something that 'we' defend it's not a vulnerability. When the same thing (a malicious program being run via user stupidity) happens on Windows or IE, all of a sudden it's arms raised in furious anger time.
Who gives a fuck? It also doesn't account for movies bade before the ratings system was implemented. What's your fucking point, other than lamely trying to make yourself seem smart?
Which is why people rightly see GPL nuts as a bunch of fucking losers. Anyone that can't understand the stupidity of calling something with a "do what we tell you to do with this" clause "free as in speech" needs to be smacked with a clue by four.
1. God is omnopotent.
2. If God exerts His will over people, as you assume, then our decisions are based on His guidance and preferences.
3. More people drink tea than any other beverage (excluding water, of course).
4. Since we like tea, He likes tea.
5. A lot.
6. No, I mean He REALLY likes tea.
7. God is a tea cozy, alright?
I can do this all day if you want. I could prove that God is His own naval lint if you want me to.
No, they can't take advantage of it. There is no possible way for game developers to take advantage of a processor that was built from the ground up with an eye towards gaming. Sony is so fucking stupid that they made it totally impossible to develop games for the processor they have intended to put into their next gaming console for as long as I can remember.
Gamestop will now likely be able to charge more for shelf space in their stores.
Highly doubtful. They still have places like Wal-Mart and Best Buy to contend with. Gamestop's pretty much the only game-only store in town now, but there are MANY other outlets for games.
Best Buy, Fry's, Wal-Mart, Circuit City... people tend to buy PC games where PC's are sold, not where games are sold. I know of one Gamestop around here that has a good PC selection, but their business is middling at best.
Go to a different Gamestop.;) I don't know about EB, but Gamestops are stocked based on what the store tends to sell a lot of. The Gamestop my friend works at (in the food court of a mall) has an incredibly tiny PC section. If you head over to the one a couple of blocks away (attached to a Barnes and Noble) they deal mostly PC. I doubt this will improve your situation. You might want to talk to the manager at the one you go to about an increased selection. If more people show interest they'd probably run with it.
Umm... no... it just assumes that one might be more expensive but not necessarily better. I never said anything about quality. I'd much rather have a used Lexus than a new Kia, wouldn't you?
You could claim that the new car industry is built on SILT because used cars are so cheap and do the job just as well. The problem is that by doing so you completely miss the point. Sometimes it's worth it to spend the extra money, sometimes it isn't. Anyone with more than half a brain would weight both options and pick which was best, despite their personal bias.
Their revenue isn't decreasing, fuckwad. It's increasing. If you'd bother to not be a fucking retard for about 30 seconds you'd notice that their profits are up 5% over this time last year. Then again, that doesn't help your stupid bullshit so it gets left out.
By the way, people sell shares of companies all the time. It's how the stock market works. Then again, I'd hope someone that can point to a chart that makes a squiggly line in a downward direction would know something like that.
You are so fucking stupid I can't even decide where to start pointing out how fucking stupid you are....
What your missing is the fact that it isnt the ammount but the fact .
This is the first time in a good long time this has hapend.
Irrelevant. We're talking about being $80 million off when trying to predict the GROWTH of a multi-billion dollar company. This isn't news.
Failing by.003% or whatever is still failure .
But you just said that the percentages don't matter. Which is it? I don't know about you, but I don't see a 5% growth as failure. Maybe I just have a weird view of business... you know, one grounded in REALITY and not your dumbass OSS fanboy fantasy land.
This may mean nothing , but on the other hand it may mean that OSS is finaly starting to break through and effect things , or that apple is hitting home with their bussines plans.
Yeah, that 5% increase in quarterly profit from a year ago is the death knell of MS, isn't it? Holy fuck, they only made $9.6 BILLION MOTHERFUCKING DOLLARS! Could you POSSIBLY have your head entrenched any further up your ass?
We don't know exactly and its open to speculations and this is why its news on a site like slashdot.. so lets speculate
Actually, we DO know exactly. MS thought they were going to make more money than they did. Shit like this happens all the time. I don't see anyone talking about it when they make MORE money than they thought they would.
What makes them so special? How about 5% growth, with 9.6 BILLION MOTHERFUCKING DOLLARS in profit? You know, the B tends to make everyone a bit more lenient when it comes to percentages.

When idiocy and douchebaggery are the order of the day, it's hard to ignore it.

Precisely why do I give a shit?
And precisely what GPL code has MS used? Start naming names and header files, or shut the fuck up.
Where's the "DUMBASS" moderation when you need it?
Anyone that can defend a childfucker with a straight face should have their throat slit.
Circular reasoning is fun!
1. God is omnopotent.
2. If God exerts His will over people, as you assume, then our decisions are based on His guidance and preferences.

Are you honestly so fucking stupid that you can't see the difference between mindless sloganeering and REAL actions?

It's fucking pathetic that this bullshit constantly gets modded up.

Shhh... we can't let things like truth leak onto Slashdot.
