Everyone thinks this, but look at the cost of ownership of a home, as well as the massive interest you pay on a 30 year loan. I may not be getting equity on my apartment, but I'm also not paying the myriad of fees associated with home ownership, but instead investing the money elsewhere. Also, the childfree population is growing quickly, so in the future the idea of 'Grow up, have kids.' will probably be obsoleted as more people choose to have careers, hobbies, and friends instead of children.

I've got 20 acres of retirement land and we put good money away for kids college and nest egg. You just gotta know how to wisely manage money.

If you're in a climate that can handle it, and don't mind investing about 1k$ now for a pretty good return in 10-12 years, plant pine trees all over every free inch of land you have. They grow to maturity in approx 12-15 years, you sell them all to a logging company and you replant. It's pretty good money and it's not subject to the vagaries of the stock market. Lumber prices stay pretty constant.

False Assumption. Not everyone has kids, and not everyone has a mortgage, even when they get older. Example, I'm not having kids, ever. I MIGHT acquire a mortgage, though I had one before and didn't like it. But not until I'm 35 or so. Until then I like living in my apartment.

Grrr! STOP this crap damnit. The problem is not carbohydrates. It's simple sugars which are a FORM of Carbohydrates, but not ALL carbohydrates that are the problem. A good, balanced diet for most people is 60/20/20 Carbohydrates/Protein/Fat for some people their bodies don't handle carbs the same way and they have to go 20/60/20 instead. But Pasta is mostly Starchy Carbohydrates and is good for you. Sugar is the enemy here, not Carbs.

I just came back from DragonCon, so this is fresh in my mind, but I saw a band called the Brobdingnagian Bards. They have one of the most popular songs on Mp3.com, and are somewhere in the top 20 most popular bands, I think 14th... They do sell CDs, they have one produced by Mp3.com, and 2 produced by some other folks. The mp3.com CD that I got from them for 15$, contains 17 songs PLUS all 17 songs in mp3 format. The other two cds cost me about 10$ apiece, maybe a bit more. They don't contain the Mp3s. As far as I can tell these guys just go to RenFairs, Cons, etc... play their music, sell their CDs, put stuff on Mp3.com, etc... They make pretty decent money from what I can tell.
So what entitles Musicians to 'Make it big' ? Why can't they make it 'big enough' and be happy? Why sign with a record label at all if you don't have to?

You can't have competition in Roads. And you either pay that, or you drive 250 miles out of your way to go around the countryside to get to where you are going. That's not competition.
There's also no motivation to improve the road if there isn't an alternate road people can take.
