I would agree with you if say... Detroit were constantly spawning terror bombers and then the local government helped hide them and aided them in avoiding capture by federal authorities. But in the US we do our damndest to capture and execute the people who commit these acts. The Iraqi population is just as likely to be helping them as fighting them.
I politely mock you for your choice of martial art and direct you to www.bullshido.net. If you are taking that with the idea that you are doing anything actually related to fighting you should also look up Matt Thornton's video on Aliveness in martial arts. If you're just doing it for fun and they aren't claiming to teach you The Ultimate Deadly Combat Mastery for The Streets then continue as you were.
I fight terrorism with superior firepower. If the bastards aren't afraid to die for their beliefs then let them. Turn their country of origin into a smoking wasteland and make it clear that anyone who follows suite will join them. Maybe if the governments and the civilian populations understand that there are consequences to harboring and aiding terrorists they will get off of their asses and do some internal house cleaning.
If today the US said, "Cease all hostilities against our forces in Iraq within 72 hours or we will turn a section of baghdad into smoking glass." we would be ignored. If we then CARRIED THROUGH on the threat then the second time we said it we'd get a response.
Why, oh why oh why are you using Email to transport 250 meg files? Maybe, JUST MAYBE that limit is there for a good reason? Did you ever think that perhaps email isn't the best way to send that data? Perhaps some other solution is available? I know that if any of our clients are regularly attempting to send 250MB emails we start talking to them about other solutions REAL fast.
There are no terrorists in the United States of America. They are not actively attempting to blow anything up in this country. How do I know? 1. Hurricane Katrina: During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina ALL of our resources were tied up. National Guard, Coast Guard, fire and rescue from all over the country. EVERYONE was dealing with that. If there was EVER a time that we were vulnerable to terrorist attacks, that was it. 2. Terrorism is Easy: Groups of 3-4 people dropping pipe bombs in mall trashcans around the country would strike more terror into the average citizens heart than 9/11 did. The idea that *I* personally might die if I go to the mall would affect me much more than the idea that if I had been standing 1000 miles away from where I live I would be dead. 3. No suicide bombers: Every other country plagued by radical islamic terrorists sees a suicide bomber EVERY SINGLE DAY. We have yet to see even one. I know for a fact that it isn't THAT hard to get enough explosives to blow yourself and a small cafe to smithereens.
So, no terrorists. If you want to worry about someone worry about the fascist leaning elements in our own government.
All of those incidents are equally wrong when done to men though. Where I work posting any kind of porn anywhere will get you at the very least a VERY VERY stern talking to, more likely fired, and we're an all male office. If one of us was the butt of every other prank that wouldn't be acceptable either. Those things are already covered under existing policy and laws. So what's the problem? Obviously people who put fetish/rape porn anywhere around a workplace deserve to be fired unless the workplace is specifically involved in the creation of fetish/rape porn. I still don't see how this means the majority of men in business need to change their behavior. I've admittedly only been in the corporate work force for a decade, but I've NEVER see anything done to a female co-worker that wasn't done to every intern/low guy on the totem pole/new employee. Nor have I ever seen anything done that would have offended or in otherwise done anything but mildly annoy me. Perhaps my sample size is too small, but I find it hard to believe that there is some kind of epidemic of workplace harassment against women in the IT industry. I find it easier to believe that women are offended when the behavior that men direct at each other is directed at them.
Maybe that's all a lot of BS. So which is it? Do I need to adjust all of my behaviors and watch my comments or do I need to treat women the same way I treat other men? By and large men are abusive to each other. In my office we constantly harass each other. Play pranks on each other, etc... etc... If we hired a woman and she got the same kind of treatment would that be a problem? What if the pranks were tailored to her specific characteristics (They way they are for the rest of us...) would that be "wrong"? Pick one or the other, either men treat women like delicate flowers, or they treat them just like everyone else. You don't get "delicate flower" status with "everyone else" paychecks.
Repeat after me, "I am not entitled to a large network of friends. No one should be forced to like me or associate with me. If I want to meet people and gain friends I will have to make myself more appealing to those people in some way."
Now, continue repeating that until you stop being a jackass.
I am a geek now, I have always been a geek. My definition of "Party" has always been slightly different that many other peoples. There was no shortage of social opportunity for me. I was just pickier about which ones I chose. There is NO REASON for the people I chose not to socialize with to have to allow me to participate in their group activities.
Read his blog from last year, he busted out of a satellite and went to sit at one of the low limit tables, bought in for the max and stacked another 100k or something up on the table. Tore the table apart and then gave all of the money to the people he played with. Did it playing blind.
So how do YOU backup 500gb of data nightly, with weekly and monthly archives in a format that can be stored offsite? We could really use a new solution....
Daniel Negraneu has done that trick to people in casinos numerous times. He's played for hours without looking at his hole cards at the 5$ no limit tables and won. NL Holdem is more about the pressure you can bring to bear on your opponent and what your opponent is holding than what your cards are.

How? HOW do you buy what they are selling? I've received plenty of spam where I could not NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED have purchased anything mentioned in the spam. I understand the penny stocks ones. We actually tracked some penny stocks using our spamfilter to see whether the spammers were profitting or not and they were. There would be no volume on a penny stock for 4-6 months, then some medium volume as the spammers bought their initial shares, then HUGE (relatively speaking) volume as the spam mail started to show up on our filters. After 2-3 days the stock would peak and the spams would taper off and the stock would go back down to normal. But breast enlargement, great mortgage deals, all that crap I just CAN NOT find a way to give those people my money. No working email address, no working website, no contact information. I couldn't mail them a duffle bag full of 20s much less buy their supposed product.
Ummm, almost everything in my house is plugged into a powerstrip that has an off switch. When I want to turn something off I just flip the switch. As far as I know nothing is pulling power through the strip when it's turned off.... Works for TV + DVD + Game Consoles. Works for PC + Monitors + Switch + Router + speakers + DSL. When I leave for more than a day or two I flip all the switches and turn out all of the lights and power draw goes bye bye. Though the biggest thing I did to drop my power bill was to toss out the 1972 refrigerator I had and replace it with a modern minifridge. Instant 50% drop in power usage.
I think he has the RIGHT to lay on the ground IN HANDCUFFS after being tasered. Why? Because that's sure as hell what I would do after being tasered. Being tased in the body (Not the arm or the leg) can EASILY knock the wind out of you. Certainly after multiple tasings you will be left weak, have a difficult time breathing, and be disoriented. Tasering a handcuffed person is ALWAYS inappropriate. I don't care if he is trying to bite you. HE'S IN HANDCUFFS and he's outnumbered 3 to 1. This is as stupid as the cops tasering the 6 year old kid because he had a piece of glass in his hand. Or the cop tasering the old lady while she was sitting in the police station. Oh incidentally, cop stupidity with tasers isn't limited to the populace, in Georgia here one cop tasered his partner because the guy wouldn't stop at Wendy's for lunch.
What part of "Stand up or you will be tasered again" is difficult to understand?
The part where getting tasered can very very easily knock the wind out of you and make it difficult or impossible to stand immediately. Yes there are plenty of people who can hop right up after being tasered, there are plenty of people who can take a right cross to the jaw and not go down too. Does that mean that if I walk up and punch you in the jaw you'll just shrug it off? Probably not. If this guy was tazed anywhere near the solar plexus or the abdominal muscles, or even the muscles of the lower back he could easily have been unable to stand when the officers ordered him to do so. Tasering him AGAIN is not a solution to that situation. And for the record, I do NOT need that kind of "protection" from the police. If you believe that the appropriate response to a trespasser who is leaving the premises is to taser them, handcuff them, then taser them some more you are a sick sadistic bastard. Whatever happened to just giving the guy the bums rush? Just escort him off of the premises. If he goes limp you carry him out and leave him there. In fact, I believe that calling the police was an overreaction to the situation.
The police are not here to help you. They are not obligated to come try and rescue you if someone is trying to kill you. All they do is clean up the mess afterwards. The one time I involved the police in my life it was because my car was stolen. The police FAILED to locate it, while my mother in law saw it on the street and followed it to the mall where she then called the police to come collect it. Every experience I have had with police officers has only reinforced my impression that they view the citizens as the enemy. We are not people to be protected, we are potential threats to be controlled or eliminated. I do not need that kind of public assistance. The police do not prevent murders, they do not prevent rapes, then do not prevent theft.
No, they are not playing POT Limit, they would have said POT Limit. They are playing just plain Limit holdem. Limit holdem is a game of pot odds, a computer might do very well at limit holdem because you can't make it mathematically incorrect to chase hands. In No-Limit the best way to beat a computer is to just push all in every time. The computer will have to have a monster hand to call you and even then you'll suckout at least 30% of the time.
Sure, they can read it all day long and twice on sundays, but if they attempt to punish me for writing and holding the sign then they've gone too far. I don't think anyone has suggested that they not be allowed to read the kids blog.
I came out of the Georgia Public school system as well. I consider myself well educated in spite of the school I attended, not because of it. Most of the people I know who escaped from that particular school with any kind of education achieved it through personal effort more than any kind of offering from the school or the teachers. Also, the teachers are not at fault here. The curriculums are designed by the state and the teachers are forced to teach to them. The teachers have to toe the administration line or they get reprimanded. Teachers have little or no control in their own classrooms any more. So even the best intentioned, most fantastic teacher in the world can only do so much when teaching to a very very poor state mandated curriculum with a shoestring budget for the classroom and 50 minutes a day with 35 kids. And after a few years of this even the best teachers get jaded and frustrated.
Uh, or it could be the kids clear concern thant the schools actions will drive someone less stable than he is into a shooting rampage. I think he's voicing his legitimate concern that the actions of the administration may cause some unstable individual to start shooting people and that he and his friends could get caught in the crossfire. I mean, if I see someone poking an alligator with a stick and tell them, "Hey man, you keep doing that and you're gonna lose an arm." am I threatening to rip the guys arm off?
So, if I stand across the street from the school with a sign that says, "Principal Bob is a fuckwit, I hope he snuffs it." should the school be able to take any action against me?
Calling a teacher a dumbass to their face, outside of school grounds, should be no different than calling anyone else a dumbass. The very idea that schools have any power over someone after you walk off of their property is silly. extremely silly.
Well, the anecdotes are going to vary widely over school districts. The public schools in florida are actually of relatively high quality, they public schools in georgia are crap. And in georgia they are making it harder and harder to become a teacher. My fiance has a degree in Biology and a degree in Psychology, both from a very prestigious private college in florida.
