I believe this academic is confusing empathy with wisdom, not the same thing. Of course, the chronic psychopaths usually occupy the highest positions: hence the labor history throughout America and the planet of murdering labor organizers, union organizers and protesters and journalists, etc.
. . . . to date, since 2012, the US gov't and private sector has been hacked over 3,270,000,000 (> 3 billion 270 million) times - - - and note, I typed OVER! So the exact number is still unknown.
But, let's say I was a super-intelligence spontaneously formed when the connections of the Web over the Internet reached critical mass, along with the dramatic increase of both software/hardware AIs now connected to the Web, what would be my first order of the day?
Creating an artificial substitute currency, perhaps . . . .
Not really. . . the campaign managers for Obama, McCain and Hillary Clinton, back in the 2008 presidential US election were from London-based multinational PR firm, WPP. Since that time those people have either left for --- or been recruited to --- Google and Facebook!
Now, admittedly Cambridge Analytica was the key player in getting both Trump elected and Brexit passed [and I agree with the socioeconomic workers' rights Brexit passage argument], but Facebook and Google most likely played a part as well . . .
I've been saying this for quite a few years now, and while some may argue there was at least once some sort of semblance of neutrality, that horse has long since fled the barn. In Canada, for instance, no such thing has ever existed, censorship at all sites reigns supreme [and Cory Doctorow is a notorious censor at his site, Mr. so-called progressive activist/free speech dood!]. Nope, I can still only comment a/. and zerohedge.com, and that's about it, as so many sites have permanently banned myself and too many others for making fact-based comments with links, e.g., commondreams.org banned me for linking to Hillary Rodham Clinton's (faux crat, not a true liberal or progressive) government site to show her voting record in the Senate, etc.
Damn, you're good!!!!!
I usually read between 5 to 7 per week, but I've been slacking off lately. Last two books read were (non-fiction), Big Money, which was quite mediocre and one would be much better served to read Jane Mayer's outstanding book, Dark Money, and (fiction), The Cuban Affair by Nelson DeMille and Michael Connelly's Two Kinds of Truth, both highly recommended.
. . . tell me this has absolutely nothing to do with Oxitec or the Gates Foundation, for when Gates Foundation owned Oxitec, and they released those dengue-fighting mosquitoes, every single location experienced an explosion in that Zika virus!
I think back to ancients of Samos figuring out the circumference and diameter of the Earth, and the size of the moon in relation to the Earth, and I must agree with you!
Blathering on, without evidence, is simply an advertisement pitch.
On the other hand, I go with my previous analyses of following the money, and the facts that the Blackstone Group (major owner) and the Carlyle Group (minor owner) owned Freescale Semiconductors, whose foundries were responsible for the FPGAs aboard that aircraft, which a lab attached to Cambridge University declared to be backdoored in its study of the chips involved, and the designer company of those FGPAs was CEO'd by the son of the founder of Blackstone Group. Also, other systems aboard were of ARINC-design and protocol, and ARINC was owned for some time by the Carlyle Group, minor owner of Freescale, which had a bunch of fabrication engineers aboard. Note some suspicious and interesting patterns here????
Thanks and exactly! In the olden days of yore, the sharp and enterprising tech types would leave one startup to begin another (HP >> Motorola >>Zilog >> Intel >> etc, etc., etc. yet with Microsoft, we see all those so-called-media-claimed-geniuses leave and do either absolutely nothing of value, or criminal pursuits like Nathan Myhrvold's Intellectual Ventures (his patent troll firm).
Thank you for explaining it for the clueless (and I'm not meaning to offend, but given all the fake news and indoctrination we receive in America, the typical American really believes all the bullcrap about those phony foundations and trusts and think tanks, etc.).
Yup, they want Durkan, who has been endorsed by former governors Christine Gregoire and Gary Locke. Why is that important?
Because Durkan, as a former US Attorney, led a three-year investigation of Washington Mutual in the aftermath of the global economic meltdown, and couldn't find a single action worthy of prosecution, while a 2010 congressional investigation found plenty!
And the latest FBI stats indicate Seattle leads the nation in property crime (has for quite some time, if we are talking reality here) and that is a result of former governors, Christine Gregoire and Gary Locke, who signed the Interstate Compact on Adult Offenders, bringing in 3 out of every 4 ex-convicts to this region.
I've known more than a few intelligent Cuban-Americans (except for Otto Reich, whom I don't know), so allow those still back on the island a little leeway please.
If they used concentrated bursts of directed microwave transmissions (something the old Soviets were researching back in the 1960s) along with those sounds, people might tend to believe the sounds were the cause and not look for any microwave sources.
No, no, no, it was really robots outside of the Pentagon who picked up those USB sticks, took them instead and against ALL Pentagon regulations inserted said sticks of unknown origin into their government computers. It's always those damn robots . . .
So what? The question is and has always been (and always been ignored or avoided) WHO OWNS NESTLE????? Who is the majority shareholder of Nestle???? Who are the owners. Stop talking about monolithic corporations without naming the owners --- otherwise you are just spinning.
. . . NSA has embezzled all those billions they receive every year, and doesn't have any money left to hire any top people, so they want free mental labor!
Not a bad book, interesting in sections with some recondite information, but the author makes a glaring fooking mistake referring to the great economist (economic surplus, etc.), Thorstein Veblen, as a sociologist!
Exactly!!!!!!!

I have long claimed not to be him, also!

Actions have predictable consequences . . .

Exactly! They sometimes uphold the law in the UK --- they NEVER uphold the law in the States.
