Seems like a good idea. However, if these were deployed in other arenas, where the enemy had the ability Jam the "cheap" communication, those drones would be...well...long gone. How do military communication systems handle jamming?
Some here have mentioned that they don't see the $75k - $85+k salaries? Maybe not where you work, but they are indeed available in the Boston area. Perhaps the cost of living inflates these salaries by 10%, but the number of C# and VB.NET job postings around here have been on the rise for the last 18 months. Now, each week, the postings are numerous - and not the bogus recruiter postings, but actual companies hungry for intermediate to experienced developers and SW Engineers.
There are also plenty of Java postings. I'm sure those salaries are at the same levels. A lot of financial services type positions lately. Probably a lot of market analysis projection tools being built....
If this comes to be, then there better be ways to find and destoy spammers. Because they'll be the cause of a lot of people getting reaching their "limits" and getting blocked.
It's simply a matter of competition. If Comcast or another local cable provider can provide better bandwidth for a similar price, then go with the competitor.
I'm supposed to get 768/128 throughput. I actually get more like 640/100 with my Verizon DSL. If Verizon can't maintain something close to this even with their pipe-grab, then I would simply switch to broadband from 1 or 2 of the other options available.
If it's a matter of shared phone lines and other DSL providers being choked out too, then that's a good reason to go with cable or over-air altogether.
Whigham said more research is needed to find out if Ad-37 causes obesity in humans. One study was
inconclusive, because only a handful of people showed evidence of infection with Ad-37,
not enough people to draw any conclusions, she said.
There is still much to learn about how these viruses work, Whigham said. "There are people and animals that
get infected and don't get fat. We don't know why," she said. Among the possibilities: the virus hasn't been
in the body long enough to produce the additional fat;
or the virus creates a tendency to obesity that must be triggered by overeating, she said.
So the virus itself may produce excess fat? SO, if infected, perhaps certain people need to exercise a little bit more and eat a little bit less than those without the virus that are trying to lose weight. So, you get a vaccine against the virus. You can still gain excess weight! You just don't have the virus adding the extra 5% to your body...
I'm fat. Maybe it's a virus. Or maybe I gotta stop eating 3 burgers and a large fry for lunch everyday. Or maybe it's all the free Cola we get here at work...let's see 240 calories per 20 oz bottle...ahh yes, good stuff.
It used to be that technical searches (the kind you use at work when searching for code snippets, general help, etc.) turned up some excellent result using Google. Back when AltaVista was still around, I switched to google because Google had great result lists.
In the past year or so, there are just too many junk results. Sites which exist only to flood us with google ads; sites that are fake (you know the ones, with obviously bulk generated text to "match" your search); and poor "help" sites which also seem to exist just for ad revenue...
The next "google" will be the one that filters out the garbage, and brings the result lists back to the way they were 1999-2001...actually, Google will probably allow us to mark results as bogus, like a personal "black list". Maybe they allow this already?
I disagree with the idea that radio is dead. Talk radio in the Boston Metro area is stronger than ever, and there are two stations in particular that get a decent penny for ad minutes (AM 1060, news and traffic, and AM 850, sports talk.)
Although, local radio stations are all running their own ads taking a not-so-subtle jab at satellite radio...
There is a great book on the history of stats in baseball, "The Numbers Game : Baseball's Lifelong Fascination with Statistics".
Those who ran baseball didn't really know what they had when it came to people's fascination with the numbers of baseball. One newspaper man started publishing basic numbers from some games, with the early calculated stats, like Batting Average, and people ate it up. It wasn't until a bit later that more statistics based on the basic numbers started being created, and even today, ESPN, Stats Inc., and other outlets occasionally create new ways to process the numbers (like range stats, true clutch stats, etc.)
MLB and the Players' Association need to be careful not to shoot themselves in the foot, since Fantasy Baseball generated a high level of additional interest in all games, not just local market games.
ESPN and other sites even show line stats with game scores, as well as offering special Fantasy segments on their shows. Don't mess with these additional markets and marketing opportunities.
It's been fun dabbling with Tivo's HME. Getting Google Maps on my Tivo via my desktop PC, playing with newsfeeds, etc. This site has some interesting HME Apps listed, http://hme.pvrblog.com/
Now, with the new Series 3 Tivo, what will developers really be able to do with a new HME...or does Tivo have little interest in opening up more to the developer community?
The Zigbee platform, with it's low power, security, and some of the excellent mesh network stacks, lends itself well to a few markets so far. Home Automation is just one. The AMR (automatic meter readers) market is ripe for this platform. A couple of companies already have products for electric, gas, and water meters. Granted, it's very early, but the mesh network lends itself well to AMR.
There is also industrial automation. However, I've read that several proprietary mesh network companies are claiming that the interference in industrial settings is too great for the current Zigbee hardware/stack solutions.
Romney could very well become be the next President. It is best to ignore the liberal posts bashing Romney. Surely a Boston liberal. Romney vs. Sen. Clinton? Romney vs. Sen. Kerry?
You didn't miss an opportunity to rip "Republicans" yet again. The fact of the matter was and is, gov't funds shouldn't need to keep PBS and NPR afloat. "Sponsors" & gifts keep it going - the less "govt" money, the better.
I enjoy the BBC website for what seems like a fair presentation of world news. I can't say NPR is often a "fair" and unbiased presentation of news...:( But, I still listen, and filter out the slanted crap on my own...
Meandering my around the ads, on this ad filled site, I finally chose the "printable version", so I could read the article in peace.
I actually remember most of what is in this piece. Not much to see here...
Prequals - ughhh! No more! Enterprise is boring. I could care less about what happened BEFORE...give me BORG again. Give me NEW stuff...DO NOT give me "Starfleet Academy"!!!!
I blame Lucas for his Star Wars sequels - planting the seed - everyone thinks it is somehow a good idea...
Kirk!!!! I can see it now, in the year 2028, a disgruntled scientist from the colony sent to Mars in 2006, and abandoned after the supply shipment failed to drop supplies, returns to a war ravaged Earth to exact revenge...
So, they do not want to compete with the expensive Global Hawk http://www.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?fsID=17 5/ made by Northrop Grumman. Instead, their interested in the cheap Notebook controlled Desert Hawk http://www.defense-update.com/products/d/deserthaw k.htm/ models deployed in Iraq. They are pretty cool. Designed and delivered in 4 months.

Tragically the Intellivision controller is missing.
How about "inexplicably"? That is a better choice of words.

I agree. The best ad-sellers come from radio.

I use Merak mail server. www.icewarp.com Very simple to use. Works great. Big or small.
>The remaining 20% is probably spent on administration etc.
Who are you kidding? "etc" = Read slashdot, slack around the office, socialize, and generally goof off at least 50% of each day.

80% of what Forrester says is completely wrong. Those numbers are highly inflated - and probably way off the mark.
Don't believe any of it.
